Brian, any insight into the reason Taylor is transferring?  Is he an Iowa native or maybe looking for a specific major not offered at LaCrosse?  It just seems kind of odd that a player who saw that much playing time as a freshman in the WIAC would leave for Grinnell.  No offense intended towards Grinnell it may be fine academic institution and I can see why playing in their system would be attractive to some.  It just seems like an odd move to me.

It's more than a "fine academic institution." Grinnell is one of the most prestigious liberal arts colleges in the entire country. No offense to UWL, but the cachet of a degree from Grinnell is dramatically higher than that of a degree from UWL.

In its 2011 edition of America's Best Colleges, Grinnell was ranked 19th among all liberal arts colleges in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, tied with Smith College.

I'm still thinking at least part of the reason for the transfer is the increased opportunity to shoot the 3.  :)

Quote from: AndOne on July 17, 2012, 12:40:30 AMgoing from a state school to a private institution certainly isn't a cost saving measure.

That's certainly true in the vast majority of cases, and Grinnell itself is a ludicrously expensive ($50,000 a year) place to go to school. Nevertheless, the possibility exists that Jack Taylor might be an exception to the rule that transferring to a private school from a state school is going to result in a student's having to spend more money for his education. I don't know Grinnell's policies regarding incoming transfer students being eligible for scholarship money, but if Jack Taylor is a good enough student -- and, since he was a first-team Academic All-State player in high school, it's a distinct possibility -- he might be able to go to Grinnell on an academic scholarship. Grinnell certainly has a lot of them to give away; with a $1,500,000,000 endowment, it's one of the wealthiest schools in the country. One of my closest friends has a daughter who recently graduated from Grinnell, so I know that if your academic background is stellar enough (or if you come from the right ethnic, locational, or economic background to fit Grinnell's desire for diversity) you can go to school there on their dime.

Hate to change the direction of all the wonderful transfer talk - but when will Superior announce the coach??

I may have been sleeping and missed it.

Seems like interviews were weeks ago and this time of year coaches are entering the second big week of summer evaluations among other things - I would think this is a tough time not to have a HC in place...  ???

Who knows - there may be more transfer talk once the coach is named.
As long as people continue to believe that anyone can coach - They will also continue to believe that anyone can criticize a coach.

I was thinking the same thing after the Oshkosh job(s) were sealed up.

Any news from Sup town?

Not exactly current news but ...
QuoteFollowing a national search, the University of Wisconsin-Superior has named Paul Eberhardt (EBB-err-hart) its new men's basketball coach, athletics director Steve Nelson announced today.

"We are very excited to bring Paul Eberhardt to Superior as our new men's basketball coach," Nelson said.  "This search presented us with arguably the deepest pool of applicants we've had for a coaching vacancy in my time here as athletics director, and the committee did an outstanding job of bringing four very capable candidates to campus.  After careful consideration, we felt that Paul was the best fit to lead our program going forward."

Eberhardt, a Wonewoc, Wis. native becomes the sixth head coach of the Yellowjackets in the past ten years.  He takes over for Matt Siverling, who resigned his post in May to accept same position at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  In Siverling's two seasons the Yellowjackets made a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) playoff appearances and posted an overall record of 29-24.

Edgewood and Ripon lead off the non-conference schedule in Wisconsin Dells for this year's UWL team. The schedule was recemtly released. Viterbo, Luther and the assorted usual suspects round out the slate. Have any of you attended the tourney in the Dells, or is this a new event ? It might be worth a road trip, unless we have a football playoff game that day. I can always hope.

New event, although Concordia Wisconsin and Oshkosh did play a single game there last year as part of the grand opening of their "Court of  Champions" arena. I've only seen pictures, but it looks like a nice place. About 2,000 seats, surrounding the court and a few balcony/"skybox" type areas.

Not many choices... the only other one was skip the first weekend... play two games the next weekend... play the Sweet 16 the following weekend... follow that with the Elite 8 and Final 4... take another weekend off... and play the championship in Atlanta.

Remember... this is one-and-done.
