New WARHAWKS

1. Jake Lindfors 6'9" Sr Center: Driscoll Catholic HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.  Played 2 years at Albany and 1 at Minnesota State-Mankato
2. Reggie Hearn 6'6" Jr Forward: Milwaukee Bradley High School Played 2 years at Iowa Lake Community College
3. Patrick Souter 6' Jr Point Guard: Racine St Catherine High School  2 seasons at UW-Milwaukee as a walk-on.
4. Miles Chamberlin 6'3"  Soph Guard/Forward: Madison Memorial High School transfer from Minnesota State-Mankato
5. KJ Evans 6'2" Soph Guard: Beloit Memorial High School grayshirted last year
6. Darnell Harris 6'8 Freshman Forward: Originally committed to Cleveland St. Played at LaJolla Prep in California last year
7. Jack Herum 6'5" Freshman Forward: River Falls High School
8. Nick Olson 6'6" Freshman Forward: Brookfield Central High School

Not a big deal, but Lindfors played at MSUM (Moorhead) last year.  Having followed a lot of thier games for family reasons I feel I can have a somewhat decent assesment of Lindfors.  He looked like he would be an all conference performer in the beginning of the season, by the middle of the season he stopped starting and by the end (the last 3 weeks) he didn't see the floor(or it was minimal) including the run that the Dragons made in the conference tourney and NCAA's.  His fatal flaw...NO DEFENSE.  The guy worked hard on the offensive end under the basket, but disappeared on the defensive end.  It will be interesting to see how he performs at WW.

It will be interesting.  Last year the WARHAWKS led the league in scoring defense with an average of 58 points.  That was 7 points better than our best year since the 2002-03 season  (as far as I researched) and 13 points better than the 2010-11 season.  Two of our better defenders, Merg and Bryson, return.  Also I don't think the corresponding drop in opponents scoring and the addition of Lou Chapman on the coaching staff is a coincidence.  Chapman spends a lot of time working with the players on their defense.  Hopefully Lindfors shows improvement because we're probably going to need him on the floor.

So how does that work? UWW gets 10 of the 25 first place votes but are in 3rd. As a fan, I don't really care if they're first, second or third. I just thought that looked funny seeing VW in second with 3 first-place votes, while UWW has 10 and is 3rd in the polls.

I'm guessing voters either voted UWW as #1, or voted them somewhere much further down the list.

That's about it, yes. There's a couple of 10's and 11's in there.

Any words on scrimmages/exhibitions?

I know Point is going up to Duluth to play UMD today and they're going up to Houghton to play Michigan Tech on Nov 1.

So, it'll be tough to get any reports from the scrimmages, unless there are Point backers up on/near the shores of Lake Superior...

UWSP held it's backcourt club appreciation day yesterday with a showcase of this years team.  About 125 members showed up to watch and then have a little lunch.  Team looks good but it'll be interesting to get some feedback about how today's scrimmage at UM-D went.  Lots of new faces but everyone seems to be capable.  Don't know how many they will keep.  Tyler Forsyth out with a broken foot.  A former player back for a second go around and could help come semester.  Purple Gold on Wed. 11/7.  First radio show Mon. 11/12 at 6pm from the Hilltop.
