Guys,

I believe the UWSP radio show is on newstalk921.com if you want to listen.  runs from 6-7pm on Monday.

You're right:

That's a change from years past, I think.

Sorry to disappoint but I have been vacationing in Aruba for the past week and know nothing of the incident.  However I will say that if I did have details I wouldn't be sharing them here.  Just because you can make something public doesn't mean that you should.  To me this is the kind of thing that should be kept in house and if the original source is someone from within the program someone needs to explain a few things to them.  At least that's how I feel.

That being said if the incident is as reported I have no doubt that Coach Miller will deal with it.  This team has the potential to be very good.

Unfortunately tonight is our last night on "One Happy Island."
[/b]

And so if nobody comments on these things or knows about them it won't be the last night on "one happy island" in Whitewater.  On a serious note, BW, I do agree with what you are "not saying" and it is the right thing to do.  I think you know me well enough to realize that I was just trying to "stir the pot" a bit.  I have tremendous respect for Pat and his program.  He has always been very honest, available, and gracious to me.  I was just a bit bored and I will go back to the football board now and see if I can find out what size jock the WW third string long snapper is going to wear next season.   ;D

Falcons04

I was at the UWRF scrimmage at Concordia on Friday night.  It was an entertaining game that the falcons could have won.  They were up 10 late in the second half before Concordia came back.  RF looks like they'll at least be competitive this year and I was impressed with their size.  They seem to have about 10 to 12 players that could get minutes this year, with many of them interchangeable.  Probably a lot of games with five players between 6 and 10 points.  Starters were Ollie white, Zach Peterson, Arik Smith, Taylor Peterson, and David Stanley (pg transfer from Concordia).

They have bowling alleys in Aruba???

We saw two of them.  However neither of us brought our bowling balls along so all we could do was say, "hey, look there's a bowling alley in Aruba."

If you ever get a chance I highly recommend a vacation in Aruba.  They are the friendliest people I've ever met.

First Pointer Hoops Radio Show

So, there wasn't as much info on the team as I was hoping but I will summarize most of the show.

The beginning of the show was spent talking about the conditioning the team took part in along with weight room work.  Semling stressed how important the weight room is because he believes being a physical team is very important.  The team was working together for the last 10 weeks but only the last 4 were with the coaching staff.  The first 6 weeks was lifting as a team along with open gyms.  Something I thought was interesting is within the 4 weeks of practices with the coaching staff, Semling would have individual practices split up by position once or twice a week.  I think that is a great thing to help specialize players ability and really helps young players develop.

I was hoping to hear more about the scrimmages but there wasn't much.  Semling stressed how thankful he was for the backcourt club's generosity so he can schedule these scrimmages.  The 4 hour trips  to Duluth and Michigan Tech aren't cheap.  Anyways, Semling mentioned how physical and put together the Duluth squad was.  That was something the players really had to get used to and struggled with it in the full court scrimmage.  In the half court scrimmage it was a back and forth battle.  With Michigan Tech, Point really came out well in the first half and outplayed Tech...in the 2nd half, Tech really picked up their play and seemed like they were woken up after the first half and got the best of us.  These scrimmages can only help in the long run in terms of the competition level.

Semling talked a little about the rotation and how he likes to do things.  He likes an 8 or 9 man rotation, which if you followed the last few years, that is definitely true.  He got into who he is counting on in the rotation...specifically mentioning Gio, Tyler, Hass, Heuer, Ryf, Ritchay and Richard.    He also briefly mentioned Lutz as a guy who could emerge for minutes along with McGann, DeMyers and Studer as newcomers who have a shot to get playing time.  Van Handel is injured with a sprained knee or I think he would definitely be in the rotation talk.  He should be out no more than 2 weeks.  Forsythe was already mentioned on this board as having a broken foot.  He had surgery on it and then had to go back in and have a 2nd surgery on it.  Semling said they are going to wait to see how it heals before they decide if he should have a medical hardship year or try and play later.  Semling was counting on Forsythe to be a defensive stopper this year and the injury happened on the first day of practice.  After seeing Forsythe play at River Falls last year, I can definitely picture him as a defensive stopper in the Nick Krull mode.  Forsythe is quick enough to guard wings and tall/physical enough to guard in the post as well.  Also mentioned earlier, Hass got a broken nose, nothing much to report as he won't miss any time but he did miss the Duluth scrimmage.  Tyler's ankle is getting better but Semling mentioned wanting to bring him along slowly.  He will probably play some spot minutes this weekend but obviously isn't back to 100 percent yet.

That is basically it but one last thing I wanted to mention, it looks like Point will be a little undersized again in terms of Semling's rotation talk, Van Handel's minutes after his injury will be the wild card there.  Last year they started Brezinski and then two 6'4 guys Dan Tillema and Trevor Hass.  This year looks to be about the same size wise.  From the talk it sounds like Heuer at 6'8" will start along with Richard and Hass at 6'4".  I saw how some taller teams were able to give Point fits last year so I was hoping to get a little bigger starting lineup this year, atleast we have some more size on the bench this year if needed.

That's all I got, good luck to the WIAC teams this upcoming season, I've been looking forward to it for awhile.

Greek Tragedy

The player requires Microsoft Silverlight... that might be what you didn't have, potentially.

FWIW, FM 92.1 and AM 1010 are simulcasting the same content, so the games are on either (or rather, both). It's the same stream from the website.

And the site streams all the time, so you could probably make sure that you can hear the games prior to game time too!

Looks like Eric Bryson has a bit of a shiner in his roster photo.....just saying! :)

Greek Tragedy

I heard he has cable. He got upset after looking at the bill and went to play some racketball to blow off some steam. The ball hit him in the eye. Accidents happen. Hopefully he wont take the bus home and wake up in a roadside ditch.
