Four teams start action tonight.

All games start at 7:00.

Emmaus at Platteville

St. Norbs at Oshkosh

Northland at Superior

Point at Lawrence

Lawrence streams their games online so Pointer fans can watch..I'll be tuning in.

I'd like to be able to catch St Norberts and Oshkosh as well but I doubt my internet will allow me to stream two games at a time.  There is always live stats I guess.

Are you getting any video Tom? The vid seems like it's running... but I've got a black screen. I can't have my sound on right now, so maybe we have audio but not video, but...

Yeah, it was a later start, probably because the girls game streamed on Lawrence's website went late.  That's my guess anyways.

72-64 Point starts the season with a road victory.  Heuer and Tillema very impressive, can't say much about anyone else sadly.  I'm a fan of Studer, he battled on the floor and played physical.  DeMyers looked lost in his short stint on the floor.  Lutz made some very bad decisions with the ball.  Point will need some players to step up.  That is all I got.

Looks like Eric Bryson has a bit of a shiner in his roster photo.....just saying! :)

He caught an elbow in practice.

From the little amount that I watched and the parts of the second half that I listened to...

Haas, Tillema, and Heuer all had 14 for Point.

Lawrence came out and led 21-11 early. Point stormed back with an 18-2 run to end the half to take a 29-23 lead at the half. Point's lead grew to 18 at 53-35 (for those scoring at home, that's a 24-10 run... for a 42-14 run in the middle 20 minutes).

I was driving home from the point that SP got their lead up to 18... and when I got home, the lead was cut to 5, 62-58 (23-9 run by Lawrence). In the end, Point made their free throws and Lawrence (who was put on the line in the last 2 minutes) didn't... and that was that.

Heuer had 6 points in the first half and only played 7 minutes in the opening half. Point came out in the second half and pounded it inside and he scored some quick points.

Point's defense left a little bit to be desired (certain things were missing... quickness with on-the-ball defense, guys closing out with low hands instead of closing out with high hands, etc) but a victory is a victory. Point has to turn around and drive to Northfield, MN to play at St. Olaf on Saturday, so hopefully they'll be able to learn from this one and still have fresh legs for a quick turn around.

Oshkosh got rocked by SNC tonight. SNC is a good team this year and could make some noise nationally but that is no excuse for this Titans team to lose by such a wide margin.

Pioneer_fan04

Platteville destroyed Emmaus Bible College out of Dubuque 88-35.  No surprise here Emmaus has just 10 players one of them being a 54 year old who plays along side his son on the team .  Hard to judge this game because Emmaus was just completely under matched for Platteville or most likely any other WIAC team. Cross is healthy this year which should allow UW-P to compete in the upper half of the conference.  Newcomers that look good for the Pioneers include former HS teamate of Cross, Brad Reinke (Oliviet Nazarene transfer), freshman Corey Vassan (Cuba City) this kid already has a body of a junior or senior. Very pumped for the basketball to be back

Yeah, I was watching live stats on this one in the first half... Oshkosh held tough for the first 15 minutes but then SNC built a 12 pt lead at the half... and then the flood gates opened in the second half.

Better get used to it....  There is less talent on this year's UWO roster than last year, and we all know how last year ended....

I couldn't imagine why Platteville invited Emmaus to their tournament and then chose to play them. They get rocked by Maranatha Baptist when they play their NCCAA circuit. They must have been really hard up to fill that event.

Point of disclosure... I'm not sure why I was checking out the Basketball Open Dates thread...

Must have been a slow day on the rest of the boards!

But anyway, I do recall Platteville advertising an opening for some games. And don't they host tournaments for opening weekend AND Thanksgiving? It's gotta be tough to find 6 teams to come in, given the relative seclusion of UWP and the fact that the WIAC schools would probably prefer to play someone else (though I think that there have been conference opponents in UWP's events before...)
