PioneerFan, personally, I think even if they aren't getting a new facility for basketball, they should get one soon. With all the new renovations to a lot of the WIAC gyms, UWRF seems a little bit behind. Nonetheless, it is still a very tough place to play, and when its full with Red and White, its even harder to play there.

Any opinion to how many NCAA tournament teams the WIAC can produce this year? I know its only December and only one conference game has been played, but every year, I feel like the WIAC has 4-5 teams that are good enough to play with a lot of teams throughout the country, but unfortunately, they all end up beating each other throughout the year in a lot of close contests. I love it when the WIAC can produce 3 teams because then it really shows how competitive our conference really is. A great example, even though two teams got into the tournament in 2010, would be Stevens Point going 12-4 in conference, taking 2nd, and running to the national championship.

Seems like quite a few WIAC teams are getting votes in the poll. A lot of big games this week before teams head into a few more Non-conference match-ups and their Christimas trips. Should be a good end to 2012.

Oh and I forgot to mention UW-Whitewater's national title in hoops last year too. My bad. Another deep run by a WIAC school in March I hope is due up again in 2013.

Mane's junior year, he had 48 assists, which amazingly led the team. 11 players had 11 or more assists that year. He did shoot 160 more times than Stratton that year. Mane's senior year he dished out 35 assists, good for just 4th on the team but only 4 assists short of being 2nd on the team. He did shoot the rock 309 more times than Al Cherry!

And just to correct you, Harris was 11 for 19 against IWU.  ::)  :o
.   I don't know who's box score I saw that had him going 11 of 29. But knowing that it was 19 shots and not 29 makes his performance against iwu way more impressive! With Tony also it's hard to tell how he would have played with more offensive talent around him.

Darnell Harris is your typical Whitewater star (or at least sounds like it) but to bring up a new issue is it True River Falls is getting new facilities for basketball or is it a bunch of hogwash?

I heard that a new football stadium is in the works, but I haven't heard anything about the basketball facility though.

Yes, UWRF is getting new football digs, scheduled to be completed in 2014, and new basketball arena, scheduled for completion in 2016. Football stadium will be mostly bleachers/pressbox renovation. New lights are already in, new field turf and landscaping coming.

Part depends on how much you posters decide to chip in for support  ;)

Define your typical Whitewater star,  please.

A kid who comes in with a lot of questions behind him but also brings a lot of talent and usually perfroms very well on and off the court.  Past examples would include Draelon Burns, Matt Goodwin, and Chris Davis.  And if we look at football players like Lavalle Coppage and Booker Stanley.

Pioneer_fan04

Excuse me Dupree Fletcher was the guy I was thinking of not Draelon Burns, and I know it comes off as I'm taking a pot shot at Whitewater thats not my intention. What I'm saying is they get players that many people wont give a chance or are afraid to give them a chance and turns them into stars give Miller, and Leopold credit for that.

With that new press box, will we finally be getting some food up there???

Good to see a newbie on the board.  Hope you become a regular poster too.

It's good to see 3 WIAC teams in the NCAAs each year, but not when two get knocked out in the first round!  :'(

Greek Tragedy: Yes, its not good when the WIAC gets three in and two get bounced first round. I remember in 2008-2009 when 3 teams got in and all of them were ranked #4, #5, #6, and they had to play #1 St. Thomas, #2 WashU, and #3 Wheaton Ill. all in the second round. They called it "Death to the WIAC" because all WIAC teams took the "L." All were super close games though. They have done an okay job of spreading out the teams since then I think. I also think homecourt advantage in the NCAA tournament is very key. Stevens Point 2010 and Whitewater 2012 both hosted all the way to the final 4 and ended up winning the whole thing.

I like when people talk about hoisting 29 shots is a lot. In a normal basketball game it is. At Grinnell, 29 shots can be taken in an 8 minute span. I have heard some good things about that Harris kid though from UW-W even though he struggled against UW-Stout. The reason being I think is that scouting reports in the WIAC are so much more detailed. WIAC teams are really good at trying to take away as many strengths as a good offensive player has. Hence the reason why I think so many WIAC games are in the 50s and 60s. In the non conference, I feel like teams don't prepare as well as the in conference WIAC games.

Last night I went to the Carroll vs. Lawrence game. Lawrence shot 16-20 from 3 ball.....and lost....

Greek Tragedy

Yeah. Saw that. Tyler Mazur was 9-11 from the field, all 3-pt shots, good for 29 pts.

Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

Stout trumps Superior on the road.

Superior came out ready to pull the trigger as 9 of their first 12 shot attempts were from the outside, unfortunately only 9 points was the result. Tied 9-9 at about the 15 minute mark Stout when on a 10-0 run and would not trail the rest of the game. Controlling the game defensively, the Blue Devils would enter halftime with a 32-21 lead. UWS would pull within 6 in the first few minutes of the second half, but Stout was just too much and pulled away to a 16 point spread with 12 to go. Thats pretty much where it sat with a 5 point swing here and there ending with a 69-54 score thanks to a buzzer beater 3 by Superior freshman Anthony Adams.

Superior looked good at times, but really struggled with the full court pressure the Devils applied. With 15 turnovers, and many of them were unforced, it is difficult to win, expecially when you only force 6 for Stout. Peterson came out looking to get hot quickly with a few shots in the first few minutes, but never really got going. Brooks did a lot for the Jackets today with 13 points (3-6 from deep and 4-4 from the line) and a game high, yes game high, 8 rebounds. UWS has some solid players it looked like with some tall gaurds that look to score in Peterson and Bauer, a decent gaurd in Brooks, and the big man that can finish around the rim in Byrne.

Congratulations to Erik Olson breaking the Stout all time assist record tonight totalling 6 assists. The win tonight came in a team effort for Stout, not only defensively, but offensively as well. Oman lead all scorers with 20, Ragland with 10, Kosloske with 11, Sholle-Malone with 12, and Jenny with 7. Hortman had an off night going 1-8 with a mere 2 points and only 1 rebound. Speaking of rebounds, the Blue Devils rebound situation was also very complete and team oriented: 1, 6, 5, 5, 6, 6, 4, 2, and 3. From what I have got to see these last 2 games of WIAC I am really excited of what might be for a Stout team that has been at the bottom of the conference for multiple years.

Pioneer_fan04

U-G-L-Y the only way to describe the Blugold/Pioneer game at the Bo tonight.   Platteville jumped out to a 25-11 lead at around the 8:30 mark of the first half only to see EC score the next 14 points of the half and go in to halftime even.  Platteville slugged their way to a 56-48 win in the 2nd half behind junior Eric Gerber (17pts) Chas Cross (16pts). Both teams shot in the mid 30%s but Platteville was able to knock down the big shots when it mattered.  Platteville really struggled against the Blugolds zone hope the rest of the WIAC does not take notice :-X.  An apparently vast improved Stout team is next.

RF loses 74-67 to a mediocre Viterbo team, one that would finish last in the WIAC. Smith, White, Z. Peterson, Udo finish w/15, 17, 15, 12 respectively. ;D

stoutguy--food in the new pressbox except for Menomonie/Stout broadcasters.
