No doubt he'll get better as he gets older and matures.

I'm just hoping he'll be in a Warhawk uniform when it happens.

Harris is neither lazy nor selfish.  Though he may not be meeting the expectations of some he is doing fine.  I think most coaches would take 10 points and 4.5 rebounds in 23 minutes from a freshman and think he was being productive.

I'm a huge fan of "rivalry games" in the WIAC. Whitewater and Platteville have had a healthy "rivalry" over the years. That basketball rivalry dates back to at least 1915.  The following incident is described in From Normal School to State University: A History of the Wisconsin State University Conference by Ronald A. Smith....

"By the Fall of 1021 Platteville and Whitewater severed relations with each other and thus joined Stevens Point and River Falls in breaking athletic relations.

After a Platteville basketball player was banished from a game for kicking a Whitewater player, the removed player  threatened the referee and following the game knocked the referee down.

The Whitewater Athletic Committee then decided to sever athletic activity with Platteville for a period of two years!!"

The early years of the WIAC were fascinating.   From Normal School to State University: A History of the Wisconsin State University Conference is a great read!!

Whitewater plays at Platteville Wednesday night!

As a UWP grad living 10 minutes from WW I agree it is a great rivalry.  I remember one game where WW was shooting free throws at the north end of Kachel gym WW's cheer leaders were doing cheers on the south end of the floor WW missed the 2nd free throw and the rebound came out long to a P-ville player on a fast break only to be stopped by WW cheerleader doing the splits in the lane at the south end.  The ref called a T on WW lucky all the chairs on WW's bench were occupied or Auggie may have done his best Bob Knight chair tossing imitation.

Again Ive seen him play once.... You see 10 points and 4.5  boards, I see 37% from the field with the MOST shot attempts, 33% from 3FG with the MOST attempts, and 4.5 boards at 6'7" and yes that is in 23 min a game. Anyone see the problem in this?

Just in retro spect..... Andre Wallace from Osh is 6'5" and averages 4.6 boards in 20.8 min and 6 points per game shooting almost 50% from the field. I dont see anyone talking him up on this board or anywhere else in the league.........

That's because Wallace didn't set the bar extremely high for himself by dropping 30+ points on the road against one of the better DIII teams (IWU) early in the year. Harris is an interesting topic for discussion because of how he got to UWW. Also many people think his potential talent level makes him capable of playing in a high division.

After all..like BW said...he is just a freshman and has lots to learn. There's a ton of raw talent there, he just needs to be polished.

Greek Tragedy

I think Manchester United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, sums it up best.

[Whitewater] is one of the biggest clubs in the [WIAC]. [Oshkosh] is a wee little club from the north.

The spotlight is going to be on Whitewater and Stevens Point, not Oshkosh and Superior.  I don't think we have this conversation if Harris doesn't go off for 32 and 6, including 6 treys against equally high profile, highly ranked Illinois Wesleyan on the road. He got a lot of pub over in the CCIW board by the most-followed team in that league. IWU is a power team in a power conference. Harris didn't do it against Maranatha in the NathCon.

The next two weeks will determine what Stout is made of.

They travel to 1st place and undefeated Stevens Point tomorrow. The Blue Devils hit the road again to Oshkosh over the weekend. Last year, Stout escaped 71-68 at Kolf. Next Wednesday, they welcome La Crosse, who play at Point the previous Saturday. To top off their stretch, Stout travels to Whitewater to play the Warhawks and some over-rated, lazy, selfish, highly touted freshman named Darnell Harris.  :P  ::)

Agreed! The next 2 weeks will determine what kind of ball club Stout is. They have had a GREAT 1st half of the season and now is their chance to step up and prove they belong near the top of the conference. Playing at Stevens Point is a very, very difficult, almost impossible, place to win, the trip to Oshkosh is long and the Kolf Center seems to usually bring a tough crowd,  Lax is playing well and hopefully we can protect the home floor, and of course WW is, well Whitewater. Hopefully for them Odegaard gets healthy soon. Hopefully Stout steps up and I see a realistic chance of going 3-1 over next 4 games. Fingers crossed  :o ..........

Really? I've never perceived the crowd at Kolf to be "tough," except maybe the River Falls game last year, but hey if that is what folks coming in see it as, all the better I guess.

As for Wallace, he has not done much against any stiff competition. His best games were a against some weaker non-con opponents. He has also been out the last 1.5 games with a concussion.

Most of the games I have been at in Oshosh there are always a few heckling and "annoying" fans. I know the fan base isn't necessarily large, but in my experience playing the worst games are the gyms you can hear every individual comment said by the few people there. Just an opinion on it..........

I have not looked at individual box scores for Wallace or all their competition. People are talking about the GREAT, and it was great, game Harris had against a very difficult opponent in IWU with 32 points, 6 3's, and 6 reb. Im not saying 10 pts a game for a freshman is not solid, but 32 game in ONE game. That means he has scored well under 10 points a game in a lot of the other games.

I always try and look at things logically and sometimes it doesnt always work the way I see it, but thats just an example of how I see his numbers so far this season.

Has there been any news about the timetable for Tillema's return? I hate to see an athlete, especially a very talented athlete, go down with injury. Hope he can return soon, even if it is on wednesday when they play Stout.

Greek Tragedy

I thought Semling had a radio show on Mondays. Not sure if anyone caught it. He might have mentioned Tillema.

The radio show isn't until the 14th this month...I'll listen if I can remember, I forgot about the show last month.

I made a post about Tillema a page or two back after listening to pregame with Semling.  He basically said that Tillema wasn't cleared to play yet and hasn't practiced since the Whitewater game.  I can't remember exactly when Semling said that but it was atleast a week ago, so I would expect that to have changed by now.

This is true. The two women that head up the boosters can be particularly vocal. And yeah the lack of din allows for individual voices to cut through.

I also may have missed the point you were trying to make about Wallace. I thought you were saying he deserved more recognition and based on your response that doesn't seem to be the case.
