Looking ahead to what the conference bracket might look like, UWW and Stout will face each other in the second round. Baring no upsets, of course. A Stout win on that game should secure them a spot.

The WIAC has placed three teams in the post season twice in last five years.  2008-09  (Platteville, Stevens Point and WW) and last year (River Falls, Stevens Point and WW).

Keep the faith Stoutguy, all is not lost.....(yet). ;)

Wow.  It sounds to me like I am even less informed than I usually am before I start popping off.  Thanks, Pat and BW for informing me.  Now I have to make myself believe that the "tough to beat a good team 3 times in a season" thing actually has some merit.  At the very least, I will have a chance to see BW in WW this year.  He is always a gracious host.  Just don't screw up on that clock again. ;)  See, I can never just quit without making some wise ass comment.

That loss really hurts Stout. Obviously Point is ranked higher so the Blue Devils shouldnt drop to far, but they just havent been able to get a "signature" win this season. Blew two halftime leads to Whitewater and now this OT loss to the Pointers. I don't know if they are going to have to necesarily win the conference tourny, but for sure get to the finals for a chance at the NCAA. Really hope they can take care of business on Saturday and concentrate on what they need to do.

I could not agree less.  This loss does not hurt Stout at all.  The pool C talk is just that---talk.  A team that finishes 3rd in their conference is not going to get a pool C bid.  What did matter in that game last night and everyone there saw it was a Stout team that played a deserving conference champion toe to toe and let themselves and everyone else know that this is an outstanding Stout team.  They hustle, they play defense, they are unselfish, and they didn't "blow" anything.  It was one of the best WIAC games I have ever watched.

One more thing.  I nominate the often disrespected Ed Andrist for COY honors.  Now let the bashing begin.

I think that Eddie has gotten the shaft in prior years. I think it was two years ago when Stout was playing some of the best basketball in the country, let alone the conference. They swept both Point and Whitewater in back to back games and they were on quite a roll. I lobbied for it here...but unfortunately we just pontificate and have no votes. But I think that this year, perhaps more than ever, Coach Semling has earned it for winning after losing do much.

One of the tough things about a conference with such great coaches is that there are often multiple deserving coaches for an award like this!

Completely agree that Semling would be a logical choice for the award this year.  I just got caught up in the emotion of the Point/Stout game and hope that at some point Andrist is rewarded for his work in this league.  Anyone who saw that Point/Stout game on Wed. saw two very good coaches going at it with both barrels. They also saw a record set for distance out on the court by two head coaches without a technical.  Both were calling a time out after their sprint and neither could be accused of not being emotionally involved in the game at the time.  For pure sprint speed, however, I'm afraid Semling wins that one.

On a side note the Stout Chancellor told me after the game that if we could schedule Point for every game, we could set an attendance record.  A real tribute to how Point fans travel.

As a Pointer fan who made the trek to every conference away game this year (even up north to Canada) I've got to give Stout's student section kudos for being #1 in fan support in the league this year. No other school's students were even close to being as involved as they were. It made Johnson Fieldhouse a very difficult place to play this year and the only two teams to win there were the two ranked WIAC powerhouses, SP and WW. The last time Point's student section was even close to that boisterous was the '09-'10 year when (Matt) Moses parted the "sea" of fans. Congrats Stout student section!  8-) :)

I'm not sure how much credit that gives Stout for their own attendance either. Stout has gathered support from the community and the students as long ago as a decade ago when I was playing. Yes, Point does travel pretty well, but the support from Stout fans has really grown over the years. It doesn't surprise me when I look at the conference-only attendance stats that they're #2 in the league.

The Stout student section was fantastic for sure.  The only complaint I have at Stout is the band is rarely there.  Rumor has it they charge the athletic department 500 bucks to perform.  They should take lessons from EC.  That pep band is amazing and they are there for every game.

In my humble opinion I think Stout WILL get a Pool C bid with a couple of wins in next week's WIAC Post-Season Tournament.

On a personal note:  I'm still trying to grasp yesterday's news that seven month's of chemo and radiation has destroyed the tumor that was found in my colon in early June. Thank you to the many who have given me the energy to wage this battle. Your thoughts and prayers have been so inspirational for me and my family!!

I just about have tears in my eyes....Tears of happiness.... I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am for you....

Its been several years since I've made the trip to Menomonie, but I remember them having some great crowds when Point traveled there.  I obviously don't know how many showed up when Point wasn't there, but if they are 2nd in attendence this year, something good is happening up there!

Greek Tragedy

There are 19 Pool C teams taken.  After tonight's results, I will try to go through and get an idea (I am no expert) of whom they might be.  I'll make the list a little easier by highlighting conference winners and assume they will take the Pool A (automatic qualifiers).  I'm guessing there are about 5-8 upsets that occur each year.  An upset means that a team that wouldn't take a Pool C bid would win the conference tourney.  For example, if Whitewater upsets Point in the final, this WOULD NOT be an upset since both have a great shot at a Pool C bid.  If any team not named Point or Whitewater wins the conference tourney, this would be an upset because BOTH Point and Whitewater would be taking Pool C spots, when, presumably, only one would taking a spot.  Got that?  I'm not good at explaining things, so I'm sure I've confused you!

Fabulous news about your recovery, Voice.  I had a prostate cancer battle 10 years ago and your exciting news makes me reflect on how blessed we all are.  Hopefully, if Stout can win a couple games this week I will be able to see you in WW.  Stop at the table  and say "Hi".
