Regarding UW-Stout, recently I posted the following about Pool C from last year:

Last year, after the bracket was announced, I tried to project the order the Pool C's were taken.  Post #3866 here...

http://www.d3boards.com/index.php?topic=4232.3855

There were 19 Pool C's picked (same as this year).  I guessed that the last 7 in were...

(in-region winning %/in-region SOS/in-region results vs regionally ranked)

Round 13 - St. Mary's, .739/.557/1-3
Round 14 - Illinois Wesleyan, .708/.541/3-6
Round 15 - Randolph-Macon, .783/.515, 3-2
Round 16 - Gustavus Adolphus, .731/.526/2-2
Round 17 - New York U., .800, .494, 2-2
Round 18 - St. Joseph's, .875, .470, 0-2
Round 19 - Birmingham-Southern, .920/.443/0-0

I projected that the teams left sitting at the table when the music stopped were:

(Atl) St. Joseph's (LI): 21-3 (.875), .470, 0-2
(E) Nazareth, 18-7 (.720), .549, 0-4
(GL) John Carroll: 15-7 (.682), .491, 1-1
(MA) Keystone: 21-6 (.778), .504, 0-3
(MW) Lake Forest: 19-4 (.826), .516, 0-1
(NE) Wesleyan: 20-5 (.800), .515, 3-3 - I think we later guessed that some other NE team was ranked higher in the region
(W) Puget Sound: 15-7 (.682), .513, 3-3

And in regards to Wheaton, said:

I'd consider Wheaton virtually a Pool C lock at .739/.573/4-4 vs regionally ranked.

UW-Stout's numbers -- 17-6 (.739)/.534/1-4

Stout is a very competitive Pool C candidate, but I'm not sure I'd describe the chances as "pretty good", and I don't think I'd say rounds 10-12.  Rounds 10-12 are where I see Wheaton right now, and Wheaton is in better Pool C shape than Stout.  I see Stout more in the 16-18 range...something like that.  They could really use more than just that 1 win vs regionally ranked to feel better about things.  Of course, Stout's total number of games played vs regionally ranked (5 now) is going to help vs other bubble teams.

I should also note, when I refer to spots "10-12" or "16-18", I'm budgeting for the regular amount of conference tournament upsets, where presumed Pool A teams steal Pool Cs.  This might account for the difference in how Greek Tragedy are I are looking at UW-Stout right now (he said, "obviously with no upsets").

Just my take.

I think Stout is in the 15+ range right now before considering upsets. I just counted 14 non-conference-leading teams who had a better WP and also had an SOS within .010 of Stout's (or higher than Stout's).

Just checked play by play. Smith had 7 pts. in last 29 seconds, nine from 1:53 to end. That's not the first time he's done that kind of thing to close out a game.

After spotting EC the first points of the game, Stevens Point responded with three straight Trevor Hass treys to take a 9-2 lead and were never threatened in a 68-34 blowout win over the Blugolds. Prior to the game starting Jordan Giordana was introduced as the lone senior departing the program this year, removing all doubt that Tyler Tillema plans to petition for an injury redshirt this year. Good news for next years team and bad news for opponents in and out of the WIAC.

WARHAWKS: 72
River Falls: 69

For the tenth time in the season Luke Knoble put the WARHAWKS on top 2-0 with a layup to open the game.  The Falcons answered with a basket but Darnell Harris' three-pointer regained the lead for the WARHAWKS and they held it for the remainder of the first half.  The lead reached double figures for the first time, 14-4, after six and half minutes when Patrick Souter drained a long three-pointer.  The lead ranged from 7-10 points over the next eight minutes until Reggie Hearn scored on a pair of free throws and a layup and Eric Bryson drained his third thee-pointer of the half giving the WARHAWKS their largest lead of the game 31-16.  River Falls reduced the lead to eight points 34-25 with just over a minute and half left in the half but KJ Evans scored four straight points pushing the lead to twelve before Arik Smith's two free throws ended the scoring in the half with the score 37-27.  The WARHAWKS dominated the boards more than doubling the Falcons total (23-10) and pulling down as many offensive rebounds (10) as the Falcons total.  With the rebounding advantage the WARHAWKS out scored the Falcons 12-4 in the paint and 8-2 on second chance points.  But it was a 5 to 2 advantage in three-point baskets and an additional free throw made that made the difference in the score.  Bryson led all scorers with 13 points.  Neither team shot that well (WW: 40%, RF: 39%).  The WARHAWKS lead fluctuated between single and double figures for the first five minutes of the second half but River Falls was shooting much better, particularly from beyond the arc, and when Zach Peterson hit a layup and followed it with a three-pointer the Falcons forged a tie 48-48 at the twelve minute mark and took their first lead of the game 51-50 a minute later.  Over the next ten minutes the two teams traded the lead six times and tied twice until Hearn's layup put the WARHAWKS on top for good 62-60.  Eight of ten free throws and basket from Quardell Young over the game's final two minutes held off the Falcons who missed a heavily contested three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Falcons improved to 50% from the floor and sank 5 of 8 three-point attempts to finish the game 45%.  Arik Smith's fifteen points in the half gave him a game high 21.  Smith also had a game high 3 steals.  Peterson added 16 points and 9 rebounds.

The WARHAWKS shooting was off as they finished at 39%. Bryson led the team with 17 points.  Harris finished with 15 points and added 9 rebounds.  Young also scored in double figures with 14 points.  Alex Merg's 5 assists were a game high.

One significant key in the game was offensive rebounding where the WARHAWKS prevailed 20-11 which led to a 20-5 scoring advantage on second chance possessions and a 30-10 advantage on points scored in the paint.

Harris had a monster dunk on a rebound.  Highlight reel material.

Stout: 49
Oshkosh:47

This game was ugly. The score looks bad and still doesnt do justice to how uninteresting this game turned out to be. Stout came out flat, unenthusiastic, and looked like no one wanted to be on the floor. Players jogging up and down the floor, sloppy turnovers, no effort on the glass, missed lay-ups, and I could go on and on and on. Oshkosh came out like they should've...... with nothing to lose. Although the numbers on the glass go to Stout, you could not tell by watching the game. Osh had to of scored on just about all 8 of their offensive rebounds. And also surprisingly Oshkosh never help a lead in the game, just a couple ties down the stretch.

Olson for the Blue Devils had an uncharacteristic night with 4 tos (all pretty much unforced). Hortman started hot hitting his first 3 of the game, then it was tough after tough shot and they were not falling. He ended 4-14 with 13 pts and 8 reb, respectively. A quiet night for Oman with only 9 pts on 8 fg attempts.

Nickel had a big night with a game high 24 points all though it took him 20 shot attempts (16 being from beyond the arc). Stout was lucky as his 5-16 from 3 couldve easily been a 12-16 night with the looks that he had.

I hope Stout can get a quick turnaround for tuesday because if they play anywhere close to what they did yesterday, they will be in trouble. Superior has a lot more options and threats than Oshkosh.

All true, but the Ale House was fun. :P

The start of the WIAC Playoffs are here. Unfortunately I will be unable to watch the Stout game tonight. I can only hope they take care of business and come out ready to play. GO BLUE DEVILS!!

I also heard a rumor earlier that Byrne from Sup might not be playing tonight due to an injury sustained in the LAX game....... any truth to this?

Another questionable game by Stout. Didn't get to watch it, but from stats and other sources it wasn't a great game. The important thing is we got the W. Now the Devils head to WW on Thursday for another showdown. Hopefully we can get the lead again and actually maintain it this time  :)
