I honestly just skimmed through it, but what about administrative regions?

If that's the case, games involving CCIW and WIAC teams shouldn't increase simply because they'll be in the same region since Wisconsin and Illinois are already in the same administrative region.

At first thought, not sure how much this really effects the WIAC if administrative regions are still in place.  There are plenty of teams in Wisconsin that are in the current Midwest Region that WIAC teams played and they were all in-region since they were all in Wisconsin.  Same with teams from Illinois.  I don't think the WIAC has really had much trouble scheduling in-region games.  If Minnesota teams stay in the West Region, but Minnesota is still in Wisconsin's administrative region, West sided teams like River Falls, Stout, Eau Claire and Superior should still have no problem scheduling games.

it probably won't affect scheduling much, if at all. The big effect will be upon regional rankings. The CCIW and WIAC will now be competing for the same ranking slots.

And as mentioned on another board (probably either CCIW or Realignment), the likely losers are the NathC, MWC, and SLIAC, who will now find MUCH tougher competition for regional ranking slots.

dmj - thank you much for the analytics, seems that we get too caught up in individual stats when evaluating players.  What does Byrne's 17.9 ppg impact really signify?

Do you sell your service since my son is a high school coach and would greatly benefit from your information.

Also, interestingly enough, the prior discussion about the league's best pg shouldn't have been restricted to Olson / Young as neither cracked the top 10.

Which is exactly why I wouldn't take too much stock in the information.  Anyone who watched the WIAC games this year would have Olson and Young in their discussion regarding good pt guards.

DMJSports

hello stoutguy,

The analysis says nothing about Olson or Young not being strong players.  It just highlights the folowing facts based on this season's game data:

1) Stout outscored opponents by 0.2475 points per minute with Olson on the floor and by 0.1725 points per minute with Olson not in the lineup. (corresponds to a 3 point difference in 40 minutes)

2) Whitewater outscored opponents by 0.245 points per minute with Young on the floor and by 0.2425 points per minute when Young was out of the lineup. (negligible difference)

Stoutguy - put as much or as little stock in the numbers as you like, but I know a couple D1 coaches who use this type of analysis extensively.

I saw 16 WIAC conference games this year in person, and I would agree that Olson and Young are in the discussion for best pg.  My point was the numbers show that others should also be included based on the impact they have on their team's performance.

Didn't mean to sound insensitive to the very interesting analysis of stats.  I'm sure that the d1 guys use it and many other things that I don't pretend to understand.  I'm just an old, burned out coach who isn't afraid to just have an opinion about good players, games, and coaches.  The statistical analysis never was and still isn't my thing.   Doesn't mean that it isn't all good.  It does remind me, however, of a time many, many years ago when a man named Rick Majarus sat in my gym and told me that he was recruiting my player, John Ellenson, not because of any stats, but because he had a feeling about his potential.

"Q" Young's ability to get the ball to the basket, especially late in the shot clock, has been a major reason for UWW to follow-up it's national title with a supurb record and WIAC postseason title.  He is something special and only a sophomore

Stoutguy... thanks for bringing up John Ellenson's name. Being a "Durand guy" back in the day, I have great memories of Ellenson. He had great statistics but what I remember most is him being a "beast" on the floor at Menomonie High School.  He was a "man among boys" on the court! Something that is not tracked by statistics!!

stoutguy

Thanks, Voice.  Ya, those were the good ol days, for sure.  I had forgotten you were a Durand guy.  Now it makes sense that you love those purple uniforms so much down there.  Durand colors.  Good luck to your Warhawks in the tournament.

At the risk of picking at a scab here ... I wonder what people's thoughts are on the performance of St. Leo's.

Lance Randall's Lions are 20-6 overall 12-4 in their conference ranked first in their region and likely headed to the NCAA.  The former UWSP coach along with Wisconsinites Marcus Ruh, Jerrell Harris (UWSP transfer), Chim Kadima and Tom Neary have been tearing it up in Florida!

I am sorry if this was talked about earlier - if so I missed it!

I think they've been performing very, very well. I think that the program has not posted back to back winning seasons in a very long time... and they're going to make the NCAA tournament for the second straight year.

St. Leo lost last night... they had an opportunity to win the conference outright. Now they have to play the waiting game. Florida Southern sits a 1/2 game back in the win column, so if they can beat Rollins (who is 4th in the conference), then they will share the conference title rather than win it outright.

No scabs here. There are scars... but it's in the past.

Not to rehash a whole lot of stuff... but how can ya blame Ruh? His head coach had just left and he was given a great opportunity. It turns out it was a GREAT opportunity after the new coach didn't last into his second year.

St. Leo beat the currently no. 5 Miami Hurricanes on Nov. 2 in an exhibition game.

I can't even imagine Harris and Tillema in backcourt together this year for point would've been pretty cool to see.
