Reviewing the Stout box from last night showed Oman didn't start and only played 19 minutes - does anyone know if he's been hurt?

Looks like Whitehead will definitely be a scorer in the WIAC - potentially Stout has a nice perimeter with Oman, Ragland, and Whitehead.

Anybody attending the Purple/Gold game tmw night??

BW--I checked Jack's stats from last year. He played in only 6 games w/40 total minutes.

An interesting sidelight:  I was told by a reliable source that Rick Bowen told Jeff Berkhof not to scout him when he was a senior at RFHS because he would not make it at UWRF. One thing for sure:  there is not a better person on the Warhawk squad than Jack Herum. He's a great kid from a great family.

Looks like Bowen missed on that one. But I will say this, Berkhof is smart enough to at least check on a kid in his own back yard. Maybe kid had no interest in staying in same town, but my guess is RF checked, knew they wouldn't get a legit look and didn't waste their time. Ask any college coach,  yes is the best answer and no is second best so time is not wasted.

Uh?

You and your silly "facts" Tom... and your quotations.   ;)   :P

I wasn't trying to be a smartass or anything. I read these two quotes as contradicting each other.

One says he's not good enough to make the Falcons' team and the other was that he was too good for the River Falls' squad and they would have no shot at getting him. I didn't grade well in English glass, so I could be completely misunderstanding this.

I was not implying he was too good. I was just saying maybe he told RF coaches he had no interest in staying in town. If a kid makes the whitewater roster, he's good enough to make RF roster, thus Bowen misjudged his talent level.

It's JMHO but there is no program in the WIAC who's roster is loaded to the point that Jack Herum couldn't find a spot on it.  It's possible that he wouldn't be a significant contributor for some of them.  But he's good enough to make any roster.

It's possible Bowen was talking about Jack's potential to become a starter or significant contributor off the bench.

UWEC's roster is posted....looks like Siverling spent a lot of time in Minnesota recruiting.

Wow, no one from east of Highway 39/51.

Well technically, Sun Prairie would be just barely east of the interstate corridor, but yeah, point taken.

Disappointed not to make the trip to Point tonight, but didn't even bother asking the Mrs. to drive 2+ hrs for an intra-squad scrimmage. LOL  >:( Looking forward to reading tomt's and frodo's take on how awesome Point will be this year!  :D  :)

Sorry to disappoint Tom, but I won't be making any summaries of the Purple/Gold game.  I planned on attending but decided against it as I left work this afternoon.  My little sister did give me some updates though.  Apparently, Tillema and Ritchay were the best players tonight along with Hass and Heuer both shooting pretty well.  The teams were split between the seniors/sophomores versus the juniors/freshman.  The seniors/sophomores won 79-61.

That's about all I got from her, looking forward to the season.

Well, I guess that leaves it up to me to give an accounting then. Purple had a 20-12 lead and then Gold made plays and ran out to a 41-28 half time lead behind 18 from Tillema. Gold stretched the lead to as many as 21 a few times before Joe Ritchay banked in a three from half court to make the final 79-61.

Tillema consistently drove the lane for layups or step back jumpers and added a couple of treys as well. He exited the game (as did Heuer) with about 10 minutes to go, scoring 25 (I think). Hass hit several long threes and ended with 18. Sean McGann played very well, driving to the hoop, getting to the line several times and netting 13 pts. Heuer also made double figures as well.

For the purple squad Ritchay scored 21 and played alot better than he did versus Mich Tech last week. Jordan Lutz hit a couple of threes and scored 18 and Richard scored 11 and rebounded and defended well.

Stephen Pelkofer played well, just missing double figures and Forsythe had several good minutes. Ryf had a pretty good game, his shot just wasn't falling. Of the freshmen, Gjertson played OK, setting a couple of hard picks and scored on a nice roll after one of them. He needs some work on upper body strength, but he shows promise. Untiedt has a very soft shot and made a trey.

With the new emphasis on less hand checking I expected more fouls to be called, as there were in last weeks' scrimmage, but it was much cleaner and players were moving their feet and getting in position better. There will still be a pretty sharp learning curve in the first few games and I expect every team will have their depth tested until they adjust.

As for what the season brings, I think Tillema will have a monster year as long as he stays healthy. His ability to penetrate and draw extra defenders will open up things for Hass, who looked like he was shooting very effortlessly and in rhythm. They both continue to be very good defenders as well and they each had 3 steals tonight. Ritchay made a 180 degreee turnaround from last week and I expect him to do well. Heuer will do well against less physical centers, but I don't think he'll match up well against guys like Landon Gamble (North Central) or the other "Ginger Giant" in the WIAC, Cross from Platteville. Ryf again will be a competent floor general and when they go the bench, Richard, Pelkofer, Lutz and McGann will result in little drop off. Forsythe may get additional situational minutes, but I think a nine man rotation is in the cards. I don't see any of the freshmen getting much playing time unless Gjertson gets some time in due to injury or foul trouble.

Are they a legitimate top 10 team? If they can adjust to the new foul emphasis, stay healthy and work through a lack of height.....hell yeah.

Should the rest of us bother to field a team?  ;)

I think I've asked that on the WIAC football board before! ;)
