Live stats are up now...

http://athletics.uwsp.edu/sports/2012/11/11/MBB_1111125949.aspx

SP is 9/11 from 3 and shooting 63% from the field.

Hass a ridiculous 6/6 from 3 and 9/10 from the field for 24... at the half.

Vid was down... but looks like it might be coming back up?

The WARHAWKS opened the season with a 60-38 win over Carroll tonight.  The WARHAWKS never trailed and after a 5-5 tie made a run to conclude the first half up 35-20.  After that the WARHAWKS lead dropped to single digits once when the Pioneers closed to within nine, 41-32,  with eleven  and half minutes to play.  However it was quickly back into double digits and ended at a high of twenty-two at the end.

The WARHAWKS outscored the Pioneers 20-5 advantage off of turnovers and heir bench outscored Carroll 15-4.   KJ Evans led the WARHAWKS scoring with 14 pionts and had a team high 5 rebounds.  Quardell Young (11 pts) and Reggie Hurn (10 pts) also scored in the double figures.

Alex Molter scored 13 points to lead Carroll.

Amazing the contrast in games... Whitewater scores just 60 but keeps Carroll to 38 points.

UWSP had a 53-39 lead... AT THE HALF.  Point won 99-73.  Trevor Hass himself had 33 points.

Elsewhere in D-III, #5 Wheaton and Wittenberg went to overtime, tied at 53. Wheaton pulled it out 73-64 in the extra session.... but in regulation, points were at a much greater premium.

Granted, Lawrence had played the night before and beat Wisconsin Lutheran 92-77, so their pace was elevated... but it might also mean that SP's defense needs some help... or that they can just outscore people!

(Note: there are some teams that you just can't outscore... so I'm not saying this as an absolutely positive thing).

Point's defense was what impressed me the most when I watched them scrimmage Northern Michigan.  Heuer was more physical down low than he was last year and they had great rotation.  I think they just had an off night on that end of the floor last night.

And I think that Lawrence proved on Friday that they're able to put up lots of points.

I just think that there were several possessions where Point played swiss cheese defense...

I won't disagree with that one bit...I thought they played pretty lazy on that end of the floor for the little I could see on the video stream.  Lawrence was able to beat them down the floor on numerous occasions.  With that said, I know they have the ability to play great defense because I've already seen it first hand.  It was just an off night for them.

BW--I could not find Jack Herum in the box score of the Carroll game. Is he not on the roster?

He is still listed on the roster.  I wasn't able to attend the game at Carroll so I don't really know what's up.  We have a game tomorrow night so maybe I'll get something from that.

There is an element of the new defensive rules in this, no doubt.  The players have backed off until they figure out what the oafs are going to let them do with their hands.   One thing you should count on, longer games.  :(

Yeah... Larry U shot 30 FT's and Point shot 23. That's 53 shots... if we assume 2 shots (which they all were not) that's at least 27 trips.  27+ times where the flow of the game was completely stopped.
