Point used a 22 zip run to grab control of the game in the first half and had a 20 point lead at the break. Whitewater came out of the locker room and immediately when on a 10 point run of their own.  Point pushed it back to 19 and and then Whitewater got it down to nine and it then stayed between 10 and 16 most of the rest of the way until Point started turing it over and missing some free throws but the Warhawks never got it below 8.  Point had 9 second half turnovers and missed enough free throws to be concerned about what will happen in a close game.  Point still hit 12 of 23 from behind the arc and they will be hard to beat doing that.

I'm not sure how many moving screens were called against the big guy from Whitewater, but it was not enough.  Wow.  I guess it doesn't matter ultimately, but they're calling this game like the NBA.

Personally, I think that almost everybody who caught the ball travelled... Catch, one step, two steps... my middle school kids don't get away with that, but EVERYONE does it on the college level, so it's ok, I guess...?

Funny enough, one of the few calls I saw was a correct, but barely traveling on the ballhandler, who looked incredulous (as they always do).

Greek you're right about Jenny's line being impressive.  He's had a very good year to date.  If they get Ragland back and they continue to get solid inside support, they could easily challenge WW for the 2nd spot.

I wouldn't count out 1st place yet. From the looks of it, Whitewater is pretty darn good too. So to concede 1st place to Point already isn't realistic.  :P So, the Blue Devils could challenge Point and Whitewater for the crown. Platteville has Cross and La Crosse is balanced. It should be a great WIAC year.

If people were thinking Stout might challenge for 1st place, I wish someone would remind them that they can't go down to RF  and lose.   That's exactly what they did tonight.  Bummer.

So, what was Jack wearing tonight?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Purple/blue shirt with an argyle black sweater vest.  No discernable logo.  Not in keeping with the Gold out theme for Pointer fans.  Strange seeing Nick on the opposite bench.

From the looks of the video, about 30% were wearing gold... was it more than that?

30% would be about right.  The regulars mostly wearing gold, the more occasional fans and students pay no attention to such things.

I attended the LaCrosse at Oshkosh game tonight at Kolf.

Sorry to ask for something I know won't happen,  but the end of this game was incredibly disappointing.

I feel the WIAC should watch the tape on this one and get rid of the ref (NOW) who gave Oshkosh Coach Juckem a T at a key time in the game after same said ref 1) missed a call on the offensive end and then 2) called an inexplicable intentional foul on Royston in front of the LaCrosse bench.  It had a huge impact on the outcome.

If he is too big a wimp to talk to a coach about the basis for such a ridiculous stretch of calls, he should be out.  >:(

I know this sounds like sour grapes but I have seen that guy treat coaches like **** in the Midwest Conference as well.

There are plenty of refs who make mistakes, but most of them are man enough to communicate with the coaches.  >:(

Luke Tweed is a shooting stud.  Someone might need him in the NBA.  Wow.  :o

Yes, RF did beat Stout 70-64. Gresmer, White, Sewer, Berthene led scoring with 17, 16, 15, 13. Whitehead had 29 for Stout--nobody else in double figures for Stout. So, stoutguy, I'll collect later!

The refs, Garrison, Bauscheldt, Makowske, were very good: nobody noticed them. Stout probably played one of their worst games so far. RF came out of a two game funk and played well.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Yeah, nice to chat with coach at halftime for a few minutes. He was sitting next to former AD Frank O'Brien. Looks like Jack tried to stay as neutral as possible! Sat with Swampgoon, as usual, waved to frodotwo and chatted with lurker BanditUWSP. Maybe I'll run into a few other Pointer posters sometime. It was a quick in and out as I made the 2-hr. trip there and back for work in less than 6 hours!

Tough one for Stout. I know River Falls and Stout are a big rivalry, so I guess the Falcons got them on the rebound after their high of knocking off Whitewater...

La Crosse and Platteville also looking good. Gonna be a tough year.  Whitewater already 0-2, but I may forgive them with trips to Stout and Point out of the way now.

This loss, although disappointing, did not surprise me completely. When I saw RF a couple of weeks ago in our tournament, I was very impressed. As for Stout, the real contenders have to win those letdown games you have after big wins.  I still think Stout is a player short (Ragland 2nd semester?) as far as a contender for that top spot.

As far as the Bausheldt crew is concerned, I will take them every time.  They understand the game, let the players decide it, and won't buy into this stupid 2nd touch on a hand check rule that the officials are supposed to  enforce  this year.  The Stout women's game last night was a classic example.  These guys were so impressed with themselves calling all the "touches" that they forgot that the players, coaches, and fans did not come to the game to watch them administer free throws.  BORING

tomt4525

I'm surprised nobody has brought up Eric Bryson from last night's game.  He trips Ryf and gets an intentional foul on top of talking back to the officials and getting a technical foul.  From video I couldn't tell for sure if the trip was intentional but it did look bad.  The technical made me laugh, Bryson gets called for a foul and basically couldn't believe it....He walks from the half court line with the ref basically following him all the way to the free throw line.  I imagine Bryson was talking under his breath and the ref T's him up.

havej

tomt - pretty sure the trip by Bryson was intentional.  He had just had a shot blocked from behind when he probably thought he had an easy deuce at the rim , the ball rebounded to the corner, and that's when he fouled Ryf out of pure frustration.

Bryson argues with the refs quite often and they probably tire of his talking.  He had a play in the first half where he drove the right baseline (where there was absolutely no place to go), slid and landed out of bounds.  Point ball - no question.  But of course Bryson had a few comments for the officials when he just should have turned around and ran back to defend.

Greek Tragedy

IMO, I think Whitewater in general talks a lot, starting with Miller.

BTW, what was that commotion in the 2nd half when the ref basically told two players to quit talking. One of the players was ours, the guy on the bench in the suit with the pink tie. The other was a Warhark player, I believe. Swampgoon, Mrs. Swampgoon and I believe there was trash talking about the Pointer player's tie not matching his dress shoes, but that's speculation.  ??? :-*
