Point only up 31-30 at half on Whitman tonight.  There defense certainly got better from yesterday's game but they are having trouble rebounding and scoring points against Whitman's 2-3 zone.  Tillema got his 2nd foul on a charge and sat most of the half.  Hass playing well with 20.

I found it pretty funny that Dave McHugh, calling the game, mentioned repeatedly Stevens Point playing a 2-3 zone for about the first 10 minutes of the half when they literally didn't play a second of zone.

tomt4525

Point in big trouble....down 4 with Tillema sitting with 4 fouls....14 minutes left

tomt4525

Tillema hits a layup to take a two point lead over Whitman with a minute left in OT....directly after, two technical fouls get called on Whitman's coach....crazy

tomt4525

Point survives 89-79 against Whitman.  Hass ends with 40, Tillema with 25....It was pretty much a two man show.  Heuer was absolutely non existent both games in Vegas, he needs to pick it up.

Next year the Pointers need to figure something out without Tillema and Hass.  I hope there is about 3 Division 1 transfers waiting or something.

Thanks for the updates!

Let's worry about the rest of this year first... :P

Well you might want to talk to more people... because everyone in Vegas saw a 2-3 zone for a lot of the first half. They played a bit of an extended 2-3. They started in man... changed to 2-3 for a majority of the first half... switched back to man late in the half and then played man the entire second half and overtime.

Disagree completely, didn't see zone one second.  Man to man the entire game.

Point's off ball defense sags into the middle and can be confused with a zone. Whitman's offensive weave takes places at the top of the backcourt, thus not alot of position change and more switching of defensive assignments. Coach Semling has said many times that he is not a zone coach, referring to Jack Bennett as the master teacher in that regard.

The pack man to man looks like a zone at times.  Let's all be at peace here.

Sounds like we're splitting hairs. At some point when you sag that far and switch that much, it's not the traditional man defense anymore.

There might be some splitting of hairs going on.  I grew up always playing man to man 100 percent of the time and the sagging to the middle that happens I just call good help defense.  I guess it's possible some people call that a matchup zone.  I wouldn't mention that to Semling though, he's a diehard man to man guy.

UW-Stout lost to Plattsburgh State 62-40 in the tournament at Daytona Beach. First half was sloppy as both teams shot poorly and turned the ball over repeatedly. Cardinals had a slim 22-19 edge at the break. Plattsburgh started the second half on an 11-2 run to open up a double digit lead at 33-21 with 13:27 left in the game. The lead would only get bigger and grew to as much as 26 at 59-33 before the Plattsburgh coach emptied his bench.

Both teams were missing a starter as the Blue Devils were without the services of leading scorer Jimmy Whitehead and the Cardinals were missing their 3rd highest scorer Jordan Moody.
