If you head over to the CCIW page, the last few pages they have been discussing the lack of talent between everyone else besides Tillema and Hass on UWSP.  The people that just watch a couple games a year of Point don't realize the little things that Richard, Lutz, Ryf, Ritchay and Pelkofer do every game to help Point win.  Heuer played so much better today as well.  eat defense today, getting a few steals.

You sure that is what is being discussed?

IWU vs UW-Stevens Point would be a great matchup.  I don't see much separation at all there - not sure there is any.

Two very different teams:

* IWU always seems to have 5 equal parts on the floor at any given time, with shots coming from basically any player at any time.  Stevens Point is led by two perimeter players - 6-3 PG Tyler Tillema (24.4 ppg) and 6-4 SG Trevor Hass (19.5 ppg, 38-69 3-point, .551).  Tillema has to be the best PG in D3, and Hass might be the best 3-point shooter.  That said, IWU has several players capable of getting hot and turning in a dominant performance...and Stevens Point always has 5 really good basketball players who can score on the floor at all times.

* IWU has much more inside presence than the Pointers.  Even though UWSP has 6-8/235 Clayton Heuer (6.7 ppg), a transfer from D1 UW-Green Bay, their offense doesn't revolve around getting him the ball.  The Pointers are not an "inside-out" team.  The Titans commit to getting the ball inside much more, and score a lot of traditional low post baskets between  6-10 Nick Anderson, 6-5 Victor Davis, and 6-5 Andrew Ziemnik.  Just very different offensive approaches.  I do think UWSP would have some trouble containing IWU down low over the course of a 40-minute game.  The Pointers do a really nice job of posting up Tillema on occasion - he is often bigger than his defender.  He has a nice post up game.

IWU and Stevens Point on a neutral court is a "pick 'em" for me.  Seems like we're on a collision course for this game at some point.

I just went back and read all of the UWSP-related comments on the CCIW board.  I think you are really misrepresenting that conversation.

Titan Q, the comments on the CCIW board not posted by yourself aren't giving Point any credit whatsoever besides Tillema and Hass.  I won't take anything away from IWU, in fact I told multiple people before the season I expected UWSP and IWU to be the 2 best teams in the country.

This is pretty much the only point I am going to make.  The other fans commenting about UWSP over on the CCIW page have only seen a very small sample size to base UWSP on.  In fact, it was their worst stretch of the season, just look at the stats.  So, to think struggling with a 3 game long road stretch is indicative of how UWSP is going to play come playoff time is absurd.

Hopefully these two teams settle it on the court later in the season,

Tillema and Hass score 51% of UWSP's points, so I think they naturally get all of the attention and conversation.  But no one is "discussing the lack of talent between everyone else besides Tillema and Hass on UWSP"...are they?

Lack of talent is probably bad wording by myself...but I stand by my premise.  Obviously Tillema and Hass are going to get the headlines, I'm not disputing that.  They deserve all the headlines.  My point is this...if you put guys like Ryf, Richard, Lutz, Ritchay, McGann, Heuer and even Pelkofer on almost any other team in D3 and they are one of their top scoring options.  They are absolutely capable of scoring.  With all these things said, we are all biased towards our favorite teams so I'm sure we see things differently, as it should be.

I think Tomt may be referring to comments made by others (that you refuted) about UWSP not being a #1 caliber team (due, perhaps, to the lack of balance in scoring, the lack of a potent inside threat, etc, plus the result against North Central, as if that result somehow defines the season).

Nobody's gone undefeated in the WIAC since Platteville did it in 97-98 (30-0, 16-0 in the WIAC). Point went 15-1 in 06-07 and has gone 14-2 three times in the last 5 years. But, in all likelihood, SP is going to lose a few games this season. They started off redhot... but they've had 4 decently tough games. It will be interesting to see how the season progresses, even though it has been encouraging to see how they responded to that adversity.

Perhaps it might even help to get a loss to take some of the pressure off...

I hope the Pointers keep looking ahead to IWU Titans and the UW-O Titans sneak by them at least once this season.

WARHAWKS: 70
River Falls: 41

The score was tied 7-7 about four minutes in  when the WARHAWKS went ahead on Quardell Young's jumper.  The WARHAWKS gradually built the lead until a 9-1 run to end the half made it an even dozen 31-19.  The WARHAWKS defense held the Falcons to 31% shooting and offensively outscored them 16-4 in the paint and 10-0 off of turnovers.  KJ Evans led all scorers with 10 points.   The WARHAWKS lead reached twenty two, 48-26,  on a three-pointer by Evans at the 12:40 mark and was never less than 20 the rest of the way.

The WARHAWKS shot 49% for the game and despite being the shorter team out rebounded the Falcons 36-29 and outscored them 36-16 in the paint.  The WARHAWKS also held a 25-2 scoring advantage off of turnovers.   Evans and Eric Bryson finished with 21 and 20 points respectively and each pulled down a game high 5 rebounds.  Bryson, Young and Alexander Merg each had a team high 3 assists.

This is likely overly simplistic... but perhaps it's home/away? Stout is 5-0 at home. They're 3-4 on the road.

Stout just played their first of 4 straight at home (strange scheduling... I don't remember seeing that many in a row like that... and they have two strings of three on the road as well.

BW--not that it matters, but halftime score was 31-19, not 41-19. We'll be a lot tougher in RF.

Having seen UWSP in person (granted not others, but still)... they are the #1 team in the country. Also, Tillema and Hass as duo with the rest of the team playing great in their roles reminds me of Kaslow and Bennett and their teams.

Stout: 56
Eau Claire: 45

This was a game I was hoping to get the classic rivalry battle and fun environment and it wasn't much of either. EC's 3 best players seemed to get out of rhythm early and never regain their composer. Mau didn't like the idea of the refs letting the players play and never stopped giving the officials dirty looks or yelling at them. Moody seemed to make it a personal battle against Jenny after the first 2 possessions and he was never going to win that battle. And Hjelter seemed frustrated and was out of sorts not really being part of the system throwing up some shots Ive only seen people do at the end of the shot clock.

Stout didn't look outstanding either, but got the job done as a team. With the high scorer(s) being 11 (Jenny, Oman, Ausenmacher) it was a team effort. With Whitehead out it was a good win no matter how it came about. Oman still seems a little shy with the ankle, but looks to attack at times which is a good sign. Jenny is the highlight of this team (especially with Whitehead out) and I think they need to run more offense through him in the post. He is a little under sized, but it strong and athletic and makes great decisions.

Hopefully Stout gets Whitehead back Wednesday for the Point game to give us the best chance possible. Eau Claire will have a chance to get a couple wins this season with the talent they have, but they really need to mature before they can think about doing anything in the conference.

I don't think anyone here will need to be convinced of that. You could see it building. Could they be upset? Sure anyone could. But I'm guessing 8-9 out of 10 times with a few teams in the country. I would take UWSP.

Couldn't agree more, Stoutfan.  Sad watching a Stout/EC doubleheader and you could hear a pin drop in the stands all day.  Stout is trying to get some things going but.......the contest with the sling shots into the baggy pants!!!!!!! Really, that's the best we got?  Stout plays well at home and they played with patience and were strong on defense.  Problem is, with the exception of Whitehead, not enough talent to run with the big boys for the long run.  EC is just flat out, not very good.  I also really like the way Jenny plays.  Basketball is a simple game at times though, so don't be surprised to see Point on Wed. shoot poorly (that game is due for them), and to be frustrated by a Stout team that has been perfect at home.  Maybe it is the fake jumbotrons doing the job.
