Point: 61
Stout: 60

WOW! What a game! It was a defensive effort for both teams. Neither team looked comfortable in their offense and baskets were hard to come by. All scoring seemed quiet as no individual "got hot," but more a casual scoring game with a bucket here and there. Whitehead played 16 minutes, but never really looked comfortable on the floor. Stout was in the lead the whole first half and held a tight 4 point lead at halftime. it was a back and forth 2nd half with either team never leading by more than 4. Down the stretch Stout seemed to be the first one drawing blood and taking the lead, but a few missed free throws resulted in a 1 point lead for the Blue Devils with :37 seconds remaining. The Pointers came down, ran some offense, and wasn't getting much. Tillema drove to the right elbow, jump stopped, did a 360 spin and pulled a tough jumper..... GOOD! Pointers go up 61-60 with :17 seconds to go. Stout drew up a play that resulted in a decent 3 point shot attempt from the top of the key and........ Brick! Pointers get fouled and Hass misses both free throws to end the game.

The game was great to watch and it was a good, defensive basketball. Stout did get "lucky" with a few long jumpers at the end of the shot clock to stay in control of the game, but both teams battled.  The end result was not what any Stout player, coach or fan was hoping for, but it is nice to know that the team can battle with the best in the country (even with their "best player" hindered by injury). Also, on the injury note...... Oman looked solid on his ankle injury and to as to the adversity, Jenny tweaked his early in the first half but played throughout the obvious pain he was in.

There were great highlights for this Stout team along with a few questions left to be asked. Losing to the #1 team in the country by a point and losing to a River Falls team by 6...... What is left to expect from this team??? Only time will tell I guess........

Hass had 19 pts, Tillema 17, Ritchay 12
Oman 20 pts and Ausenmacher 12 (4 threes)

Anyone know what's going up in Canada? Lindblom only plays 12 minutes (injury of ineffectiveness) and Hollis doesn't play again...though Corry was back.

No Skogman in La Crosse.

WARHAWKS: 86
Oshkosh: 55

The WARHAWKS led 23-6 after 11 minutes had been played.  Oshkosh cut the deficit to 12, 28-16, with four and half minutes left in the first half and that was as close as they would get the rest of the half.  The WARHAWKS finished the half with a 18 point lead, 36-18.  The closest the Titans got in the second half was 16 points in the first minute of the second half.  The largest WARHAWKS lead was 38 points.

The WARHAWKS shot 55% for the game including a season high 12 of 18 from beyond the arc.  They out rebounded the Titans 42-23 including 15 off the offensive board and dominated in the paint outscoring the Titans 36-20.  Eric Bryson's 15 points led all scorers and Reggie Hearn added 14 points and pulled down a game high 8 rebounds.  Alexander Merg finished with a game high 5 steals.  Bryson added a team high 3 assists.

Dylan Wurtz led the Titans with 10 points.

Question.

After Hass missed his 1st free throw with 2 seconds left, did he purposely miss his 2nd so Stout would be unable to set up a last play or did they have a timeout anyway?

Yes, he did....I sat directly behind the Point bench and could listen in to their conversations.  After Hass missed the first, Andrist called timeout...and Hass asked Coach Semling what he thought about the idea to miss the 2nd during that timeout.

Ragland is taking the medical red-shirt and will be back next year.  Whitehead played but probably shouldn't have .  He really struggled.  The Jenny injury was probably the biggest factor.  That kid played with amazing courage and heart.  If he were a few inches taller, nobody would stop him.  Now you have Jenny, Whitehead, and Ragland not part of it and it still comes down to a pretty good perimeter shot by  Oman that doesn't go.  (Still think you should have taken it to the rim, Alex)  That being said, it was an amazing game and I was proud to be a Bluedevil.  Some losses are easy to take when you know you have left everything out on the floor.  A great effort.

Greek Tragedy

Even with both injured, were Whitehead and Jenny on the floor at the end? How serious is Jenny's injury? Will he play at close to 100% on Saturday?

Stoutguy - couldn't agree with you more about that last shot.  They had gone to the line I believe the previous 4 trips in a row (some calls a bit iffy I think but still).  Would have loved to have seen something similar with a bit of a twist.  Knowing the weak side defender is likely to come over and help again - when the guard drives have the opposite post flash to the middle so the defender has to make a choice of staying with his man or helping on the drive. Just something that they hadn't seen repeatedly the last couple minutes that they wouldn't necessarily expect.  Despite getting an open look, the deep shot just didn't make any sense to me when you are only down 1 point.

Whitehead only played early in the 2nd half and sat the rest of the game, but Jenny played through the whole game I believe. As to the seriousness of the injury I am unsure. I couldnt even tell when it happened, but it just looks like the typical rolled ankle. I would guess he will play saturday and there will be no guess on how healthy thatplay will be. Without him I dont knowhow things will go saturday and I dont care to find out. 8-) :o :-\ :-X

Just to be clear,  that was not Ed's call on the last open look by Oman.  It was Oman deciding he was open.  The play was intended for Oman to slash to the rim off the double screen.  Coaching staffs can only draw up the play.  The players have to believe and then make it happen.  Neither Jenny or Whitehead were in the game at the end.  Jenny could hardly walk, much less play and if Whitehead had been healthy, the ball would have been in his hand at the end of that game.

Skogman warmed up, with a face mask on, but didn't play.  According to the La Crosse Tribune, he has a broken nose from the Point game, but is expected to play in our next game.
