RF fans have little to brag about, but here's a case for Grant Erickson to get Freshman of the Year Award:  he's 5th in assists; Rihan of Lax is 15th and they're the only two freshmen listed.
He's tied for 8th in steals. Schradle of Superior is 15th. They are the only two freshmen listed.
He's 8th in minutes played, Schradle is 12th. They are the only freshmen listed. Erickson clearly directs the offense, is a coach's choice leader.
He averages 7.2 ppg, third on the Falcon list, admitedly easier than being third on higher finishing teams in the WIAC.

The thing I like about him is that he is seldom out of control. He's the kind of point guard coaches want--and he's only a freshman!

LaCrosse: 45
WARHAWKS: 63

This one was all WARHAWKS from the get go as we jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first six minutes and it grew to 21 points, 34-13, before the Eagles got the last basket of the first half creating a 34-15 halftime score.  The Eagles struggled from the field shooting just 22% (6 of 27) from the field including 1-9 from beyond the arc.  The WARHAWKS shot 43% and Eric Bryson led all scorers with 11 points connecting on 3 of his 4 three point attempts.  KJ Evans added 10 points and 7 rebounds leading the team to a 18-6 scoring advantage in the paint.  The Eagles would manage to get within 13 points in the first six and half minutes of the second half but would get no closer for the rest of the game.  The WARHAWKS largest lead was 21.

Though their shooting percentage improved in the second half the Eagles managed only 28% for the game and after connecting on 15 three-pointers in the first meeting the WARHAWKS defense held them to just 3 of 21 in this game.  The WARHAWKS finished the game 46% from the floor and with a 43-28 rebounding advantage.

Evans led all scorers with game highs of 21 points and 14 rebounds.  Bryson finished with 18 points.  Quardell Young's 4 assists and 3 blocks were both game highs and he added a pair of steals.

Calahan Skogman led the Eagles with 11 points, 3 assists and 4 rebounds.

The win secured a first round bye as the 2nd seed in the conference tournament.

Good choice. Oshkosh has some freshman playing real minutes and should be considered as well.  Of course they have no choice to play freshman since no one did any recent recruiting there until Coach Pat Juckem came along.

Coach Juckem should be a coach of the year candidate as well. I know the lofty perch that Point and UW-Whitewater and Platteville play at, but what he is doing with this reclamation project, left for dead 2 years ago, is really impressive.  Whether given the award or not, this is really going to be fun to watch as they become competitive in the WIAC for the first time since Tim Dworak roamed the Kolf Center.  Students are starting to come back and the Fox Valley is starting to talk about Oshkosh as a basketball destination again.

Just a follow up to a few previous posters:

Regarding freshman of the year, RF is the only team I haven't seen live or via video stream but the most impactful freshman I've seen is Schebel from UWO.  I've heard the PG at RF is very good, just haven't seen him play.

Juckem is definitely a COY candidate - who has exceeded expectations at the level UWO has?  They have a real good chance to tie Stout for 5th place.

Speaking of post season awards this year's first team all conference selections should be interesting as far as the last few spots.  There are obviously 7 or 8 no brainers, but after that, it's up for grabs.

Oshkosh was competitive when Capelle, Janke, and Gibson were there.

They beat Point at Point two of those years, including when SP was ranked #1 in 06-07.  I do agree that those teams underachieved and didn't make the NCAA tournament... but they were pretty competitive in the WIAC.

Wasn't Gibson the guy who went to Lithuania to play pro ball after college, then got into trouble when he jokingly told an American journalist in an interview that he didn't like Lithuania and wished that they sold American beer over there?

I seem to remember half the board calling him an ugly American, and the other half questioning the value of a UWO education in producing graduates who think that Miller Lite is a beer worth missing when you're overseas.

He'd be the one.

I'd either forgotten about that or I'd stricken it from my memory.  But I do recall some darn good basketball games between Oshkosh and Point in those years.

That is true, I recall a loss to Superior at home in the WIAC.  Did you know Janke's dad is an assistant to Juckem now--they have a Manitowoc Roncalli connection.  Did Pat coach Andy in high school?

Really surprised to see Stout lose at home to Superior. There didn't seem to be much reaction from the Stout faithful on here either.

Superior hadn't beaten anyone not named Eau Claire since December 14th!!!! They were 2-10 until they went down and beat the Blue Devils.

Stout has their work cut out for them as they travel to Platteville, La Crosse and Point.
