Greek Tragedy

Saturday

Stevens Point at Lawrence-Shouldn't have any problem in Appleton. The Vikings are 4-2,  but wins against the bottom 3rd teams in the NACC and MWC.

River Falls at Viterbo-Could be a tough game for the Falcons. The V-Hawks have beaten Stout, La Crosse and the preseason #2 Cardinal Stritch (who beat Whitewater). They also lost to Eau Claire though.

Platteville at Loras-Don't know anything about Loras,  but the one common opponent is Mount Mercy.  They both lost to them by 9. Not sure if the narrow win over Oshkosh should be concerning.  They did have a big lead though.

Eau Claire at St. Norbert-This one could get ugly with the Green Knights the cream of the MWC crop. I don't see anyway the Blugolds stay with them.

Monday

Oshkosh at North Park-North Park is picked last in a loaded CCIW, but is 4-1 with a respectable loss to St. Norbert by 11. Wins? Alma, Kalamazoo,  Eureka and Illinois College.

Congrats to Coach Berkhof on the 100th win. Looks like UWRF is back in the swing of things. Got a chance to see them play LAX and though tough looking kids, playing hard and believing. Not a SR in the group should help out for the future. A lot of minutes with Soph and Freshman. Should be a good transition from Kargas to their new facility. I saw some pictures. Wow!  Freddy Where are they with the project?

They are scheduled to play their first game there in January, 2017. So only this year's freshmen will play there.

UW Stevens Point played well enough to defeat Lawrence in Appleton today.  Good use of the clock, good three point and late shot making by the Pointers.  Just too much defense for the Vikings to get any kind of run going on offense.

When did the Point fans turn into the WWE crowd?  Boorish might be a polite description for their behavior today.  The head official had to address them and Coach Semling late in the contest about their behavior. The game was not in question and the calls didn't appear to be controversial.

This has always been a nice non-conference rivalry.  Today probably changed that.  I am honestly flummoxed as to what they were so upset about.  ???

In any case, the UW-SP should be embarrassed.  :-[

RF loses 75-74 to Viterbo after leading most of the game. Both teams shot over fifty percent in a well played game with 10 tovers for RF, 13 for Viterbo. Christensen had 19, Goodwin 14, Erickson 9.

I watched the game online with Lawrence announcers and they were as bad as any fans have ever been.

Hey, I really like Coach Semling and they played exactly the way to control LU.  Does he have to go across the court and control his fans, too?

After the game was in hand late I stopped watching....so what exactly are you talking about late in the contest??

Semling has a lot more to worry about that a few idiots sitting in the bleachers.  I can understand why an official might go to him and ask for assistance in crowd control but the people they should be talking to are game management.  When we've got a problem with a spectator we go to the game manager and/or the law enforcement personnel that are at the game to take care of the problem.  They take care of the problem and the head coach coaches.  Does Lawrence have any game management types present and what did they do about it?  If those people's behavior was that bad it should have been their responsibility to get it taken care of not Semling.

For whatever reason, the Point section which was opposite the LU bench and adjacent to the LU basket was consistently whining about defensive foul calls against the Pointers, most that appeared rather obvious.  Loud yelling at officials on just about every call.  As the Pointers had the game in hand, many of us in the LU section were a bit confused as to why they were so upset.   Eventually with a few minutes left in the game, the lead official stopped the game, walked over to the section and said something (we couldn't hear it) and waved his finger at them, causing them to roar even more.  He then immediately went to the Point bench (diagonally across the court) and talked to Semling, so I suspect he was informing him of some risk of a technical foul in the event there was another warning.  I could tell Coach DePagter was upset about something late in the game as well, so it is possible that the two were related.

As I said earlier, this has been a good series with little history of any issues. This was a first.  Maybe some of the Point fans spent the early afternoon at the Wooden Nickel before the game?  ???

If anyone here was over there and can clear this up, that would be great.

I didn't see the ref seek any assistance, and there are game management personnel there.  I doubt there are law enforcement, except for one of the LU assistant coaches who works (or used to work) in Campus Security as I recall.

NPU beat UW-Oshkosh handily, 84-59. The game was tied at the half at 39-39, but the Vikings pulled away in the second half while holding the Titans to only 5-25 from the field in the second stanza. UWO simply couldn't handle North Park's quickness at either end of the floor.
