Greek Tragedy

Got news that Eau Claire's Adam Hjelter is out for the year. He had surgery on his wrist.

Point plays defense.  That wins games.

They're good defensively, granted. But not elite. They are shooting over 57% from the floor. That is why they're winning games. They're 10% better than anyone else in the league. Defensively, they're a top tier team, but again, shooting at such an impressive clip, they're tough to beat!

Mr. Skogman gave up his athletic opportunities to pursue his ambitions in the theatre. My cultured and erudite friend chmarx tells me that the young gentleman is multi-talented and a  fine actor.

They also work the clock to late in the possession for the good shot. And the tired defender.  Semling does a good job there, they play hard regardless of talent and when the cupboard is full they are really tough.

All spot-on. The best word to describe them every year is disciplined. Shooting percentage is high because they value good shots, share the ball, and run great stuff. Their guys develop over their career there and become a very cohesive unit. Very impressive.

So then, Here's a fun game: one word associations regarding each team...

1. Whitewater - tough
2. Point - disciplined
3. Platteville - systematic
4. River - youthful
5. Superior - capable
6. Oshkosh - scrappy
7. LaCrosse - identity crisis (okay, two words!)
8. Eau Claire - rebuilding (still)
9. Stout - undisciplined

Anybody else not getting video of the Point game??

Exciting finish in Kolf - Titans get the W with the final 2:30 taking FOREVER!!! Falcons get a good shot at the end, but kind of have to wonder why Goodwin wasn't on the floor for the final shot... Obviously not my call, but I would've put him out there!

Eau Claire gets the road win, all other home teams win.

Titans beat Falcons 59-57. Bolger leads Osh w/12. Christensen, Lewis, Goodwin score 14, 12, 11 respectively for RF.

I finally was able to get the Point live video feed with a couple minutes left in the first half.  At the end of the half, the refs made a puzzling call to say the least.  McGann hits a runner at the buzzer and a foul is called...Refs confer can call of the basket but yet give McGann a 2 shot shooting foul.  How can you call a shooting foul on a shot that went in and not count the bucket???  Am I missing something here??

What was the foul situation? Could they have been in the double bonus? Hit the shot then found after?

It was still only single bonus

Not real sure about my lip reading skills, but I thought I saw the ref say that he was fouled during the shot but the ball was released after the shot clock expired. Not sure how that distinction can be made without video replay, but there it is.

I've seen players make a bucket and get fouled after the shot. It's rare, but I don't think it's extremely rare. If it was a 1-and-1 with no time on the clock, no players on the lane lines, and he made the first shot, then visually it wouldn't look any different than a 2-shot foul. I suspect it was actually a 1-and-1.

Except, if the shot was disallowed because of the buzzer, then the foul would clearly have been after the game was already over.  So the mystery continues! :D
