While I take no offense from your posts, I do see contradiction in some of the things you say. If you honestly don't want to rip on a coach who's team is having a down year, then why do you refer to Coach Andrist as "Fast Eddie?"  That seems rude and disrespectful.

And as far as looking like he was "checked out" at a recent game, I have been watching Coach Andrist during games since he came to Stout and I have attended every home game this year. I haven't seen any change in his coaching intensity or style this year from the past.

I'm sure having a 3 win season and not winning a conference game yet is bothering the heck out of him. But to me, he is as involved in every game as much as he was 2 years ago when they were 11-5 in the conference and 20-7 overall.

Fair enough on point one, I was unaware that was a disrespectful nickname. As an aside, I once attended a clinic of his where he referred to HIMSELF by that name, citing something along the lines of, "they don't call me 'Fast Eddie' for nothing..." or something to that effect. Regardless, I will cease using that moniker.

I am certain that you are a better judge of his energy level than I, so I will defer to your judgement. It appeared TO ME (and me alone) that he seemed to have lost his edge, especially during the game in question.

It seems that there is a very large contingent of Stout fans that appreciate his efforts and laud his accomplishments there. I found, at least at my measly high school level, that was a hard thing to accomplish. Now, while I have found that some of his former players would speak poorly of him, the resounding support he receives here puts those into perspective.

Honestly,  I don't really understand the who "Fast Eddie" dis. Did I miss a negative connotation?

I'd assume the origin of the name is "Fast Eddie" Felson, Paul Newman's character in The Hustler.  I suppose it could be taken as negative in a 'con man' sort of way, but I wouldn't really agree.

Greek Tragedy

I participate in the World's Largest Trivia contest annually for the past 25 years or so (may have missed a couple) in Stevens Point, WI. I hear a lot of, "Let's play trivia, Fast Eddie! " Not sure if that's a team thing or a trivia thing...

Regardless,  I don't feel any negative connotations from that. If you Google Fast Eddie, there are a few Fast Eddies I wouldn't want to be associated with, though!  ???  ;D

I think it has more to do with his recruiting than with trivia or a movie and I believe it originated during his time at Mount Senario.  Not that I agree with it but I think that's the origin.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  No coach in the WIAC treats those of us at the table with more respect than Ed and if a problem arises he keeps his cool and waits for us to work it out.  The others aren't necesssarily disrespectfull.  They generally just ignore us.  Though some will get pretty animated when there is a problem.  I don't know how others in the league feel about him but personally I like the dude.

Oh, no one can understate his likeability! He's generally (and I haven't spent a lot of time around him) a very engaging person, and as I understand a very good storyteller. I didn't disagree with his personality, just that he worked harder, prepared more, and cared more about his players than the other great coaches in the league - to my understanding those statements are inaccurate (and if they were, I'd wager he'd be better than 50 games under .500).

I think we've (mostly me!) have spent enough time on this. I'll do my best to drop it, and return to less controversial topics.

I see that Point cracked the top 5 this week. Crazy, I had them at 3-4 in the league. Shows how much I know!

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has a story today by Lori Nickel comparing Bo Ryan's 13 years at UW-Platteville to Pat Miller's 13 years so far at UW-Whitewater. The numbers are very even.  Click the link for the story...

One half court shot vs Oshkosh a few weeks back turned their season around.   :'(

Could you imagine how good he'd be if he only recruited, prepared, and cared about his guys like Andrist? Sorry, I don't know what came over me! Coul

I am going to make one more comment regarding your posts and then stop.   In our coaching profession, (yes, i was a coach once too,) it seems like we have  enough detractors: frustrated players, parents, community members and all kinds who for one reason or another, think that they could do your job better than you are doing it.  You are a coach and it seems to me that if you really cared about your profession, you would not continue to spew out this negative banter about another coach.  I have tremendous respect for the profession.  You obviously do not, so rip away.

I think we've heard enough on this line of discussion.  Did Eddie do something to your sister that got him your ire and his moniker?  :o :o

Edited because it wasn't worth it. I'll let you keep those assumptions of me. I don't need your respect or approval. Have a good evening!

Good move on your part to delete your last comments.  I wasn't going to comment on them but I will comment on this last edit.  You are completely accurate about your not needing my respect or my approval and that's good because you have neither.

UWW hosts Oshkosh tonight and plays at Stout on Saturday to complete its regular season.  Stevens Point is idle tonight and wind up its regular season at Superior.  The two teams enter the week with just 1 conference loss.

Can you stay coin flip for the WIAC's No. 1 seed in next week's conference tournament.

Channel 27 in Madison aired a nice special on the Warhawks last night.

Greek Tragedy

I enjoyed reading the JS article on Miller (and Bo). I don't remember any of those Bo Ryan years. I guess I was too busy watching the Pointer hockey team win National Championships at that time.

Being a Pointer fan, naturally I have to compare Semling's 9 full years (starting 05-06) with Miller's 13 full years.

Miller overall 291-83 .778
Semling overall 213-49 .813

Miller WIAC 152-56 .731
Semling WIAC 119-25 .826

Miller Conference titles 5 (4 during Semling era)
Semling Conference titles 5

Miller Conference Tourney titles 3
Semling Conference Tourney titles 5

Miller NCAA appearances 7 (2 titles)
Semling NCAA appearances 8 (7 in a row, 1 title)

Miller Conference C.O.T.Y 4 (all in Semling era)
Semling Conference C.O.T.Y. 4

Whitewater Conf. P.O.T.Y. 4 (all in Semling era)
Stevens Point Conf. P.O.T.Y. 1

Whitewater All-Conference players 40
Stevens Point All-Conference players 23 1st team/7 honorable mention.

Only River Falls' Berkhof has won COTY outside of Miller and Semling since 05-06.

Point or Whitewater has won the conference title every year since 05-06
