I enjoyed reading the JS article on Miller (and Bo). I don't remember any of those Bo Ryan years. I guess I was too busy watching the Pointer hockey team win National Championships at that time.

Being a Pointer fan, naturally I have to compare Semling's 9 full years (starting 05-06) with Miller's 13 full years.

Miller overall 291-83 .778
Semling overall 213-49 .813

Miller WIAC 152-56 .731
Semling WIAC 119-25 .826

Miller Conference titles 5 (4 during Semling era)
Semling Conference titles 5

Miller Conference Tourney titles 3
Semling Conference Tourney titles 5

Miller NCAA appearances 7 (2 titles)
Semling NCAA appearances 8 (7 in a row, 1 title)

Miller Conference C.O.T.Y 4 (all in Semling era)
Semling Conference C.O.T.Y. 4

Whitewater Conf. P.O.T.Y. 4 (all in Semling era)
Stevens Point Conf. P.O.T.Y. 1

Whitewater All-Conference players 40
Stevens Point All-Conference players 23 1st team/7 honorable mention.

Only River Falls' Berkhof has won COTY outside of Miller and Semling since 05-06.

Point or Whitewater has won the conference title every year since 05-06

Maybe Channel 27 should be doing a feature on Coach Semling?!

Greek Tragedy

Na, that'd have to be a Wausau area channel!  ;D

I'm not trying to take away from Pat Miller's accomplishments or start a "who's better" conversation.  Like I said, naturally, I'm gonna see how Semling stacks up to Miller.

I wanted to look at different scenarios but I ran out of time... it will be MUCH easier to do after tonight's games anyway!

I do know this... La Crosse needs a win tonight to keep their conference tournament hopes alive. If LaX wins and EC loses both of their games, then LaX gets a spot and EC doesn't. EC holds the head to head 2-0 if they should both end up 6-10 or 7-9.

Watching the Oshkosh vs. UW Whitewater game on stream. Pat Miller should be ejected for his behavior at the end of the first half.   :o

Greek Tragedy

Field is set , but not the seeds.

Whitewater 14-1
Stevens Point 14-1

Both with 1st round byes. Whitewater at Stout,  Point at Superior. If they both win, coin flip. If they both lose, Whitewater gets #1 as they were 2-0 vs Superior (finished higher than Stout)

River Falls 9-6
Platteville 9-6

They play each other. Easy as pie.

Oshkosh 7-8
Eau Claire 6-9

If Eau Claire wins at Oshkosh, they ssplit H2H. If River Falls wins (gets 3 seed), Oshkosh gets #5 as they were 1-1 vs River Falls and Eau Claire was 0-2. If Platteville wins, Eau Claire gets the 5 seed for the same reason.

I'm not surprised to see that we've dropped to second but I am a little surprised that it's Augustana who moved into first.  They're 3-2 in their last five games though they do hold the head to head against us.  I kind of thought it would be Point who is 7-0 including a win over us since their last loss.  Regardless Augustana is a good team and I don't get to excited one way or the other about the rankings as long as we're in the postseason picture.

Augustana's results against regionally ranked opponents (5-2) is far better than Point's (2-4) or Whitewater's (2-2). Their SOS is better than Point's (barely) and better than Whitewater's. Their win over Whitewater helps as well.

Also, I don't think there's much weight in that "results in the last 10 games" theory, definitely not like D1 at least.

Even if Whitewater loses this weekend and loses their opening WIAC tourney game, they are a virtual lock for a Pool C bid, still probably being one of the first 5 Pool C bids selected.

There is NO weight in the "last ten games" in Division III... no criteria allows that. A game on November 15 is just as important as a game on March 1.

Augustana is #1 because of a better vRRO, better SOS, and a head-to-head win over UWW.

Oshkosh: 47
WARHAWKS: 69

Led by four seniors who scored 53 of the team's 69 points the WARHAWKS used a dominating second half to put away the Titans on senior night.  After KJ Evans opened the game with a layup and the Titans tied it on their first possession Quardell Young's fast break layup gave the WARHAWKS a lead they would never surrender the rest of the evening.  The WARHAWKS lead reached double figures on two occassions but the Titans closed to within four points with two minutes remaining in the first half.  Young's three point play to close the half increased the lead to seven 27-20 when it ended.  Neither team shot that well (WW: 38% - O: 32%) but the WARHAWKS outscored the Titans 11-4 off of turnovers, 6-0 on fast breaks and 20-14 in the paint.  Young's 12 points and 4 rebounds led the WARHAWKS while AJ Mueller scored 10 points and pulled down 5 rebounds to lead the Titans.  The Titans got no closer than seven points in the second half and the WARHAWKS lead reached double digits for good around the twelve minute mark.  Defensively the WARHAWKS held the Titans to 27% from the floor in the second half while shooting 63% themselves.

KJ Evans: 16 points, 10 rebounds
Cody Odegaard: 15 points
Quardell Young: 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals
Steve Egan: 7 points, 7 rebounds
Team: 46-18 in the paint, 16-6 off of turnovers, 18-8 second chance

Titans:
AJ Mueller: 11 points, 5 rebounds
Andre Wallace: 9 points, 9 rebounds

Technical fouls: none

If you look at these three teams, I wasn't terribly surprised that Augie jumped UWW based off of the last week.... though I wouldn't have been surprised if 1-3 stayed the same.

Augie's win % went from 81.8% to 83.3%. Whitewater's went from 94.7% to 90.5%.
Augie holds the edge in SOS: .584 to .561
Augie's record vs. regionally ranked went from 4-2 (.667) to 5-2 (.714) while Whitewater's fell from 2-1 (.667) to 2-2 (.500)
And Augie has the result of their H2H on 12/10

Team      Win %      vRRO      SOS      H2H
   1. Augie      0.833      5-2      0.584      1-0 vs WW; 2-0 vs Elm;  1-1 vs IWU; 1-1 vs NC
   2. UWW      0.905      2-2      0.561      0-1 vs Aug; 1-1 vs SP
   3. UWSP      0.833      2-4      0.582      1-1 vs WW; 0-1 vs NC
   4. Wash U      0.773      3-3      0.562      1-0 vs IWU
   5. Elmhurst      0.792      4-2      0.541      0-2 vs Aug; 1-0 vs IWU; 2-0 vs NC
   6. Norbert      0.955      0-1      0.498
   7. IWU      0.708      3-4      0.576      1-1 vs Aug; 0-1 vs Wash U; 0-1 vs Elm; 1-1 vs. NC
   8. NC      0.682      3-5      0.577      1-1 vs Aug; 0-2 vs Elm; 1-1 vs IWU; 1-0 vs SP

I added the H2H because that may be factoring in when looking at two teams next to each other (i.e. Augie and UWW).
