Other gyms:

River Falls: 80  EauClaire: 71 - The BluGolds scored 28 baskets to 27 for the Falcons but the Falcons hit 10 three pointers to 9 for the BluGolds, make 16 of 24 free throws to 6 of 12 and outrebound the BluGolds 44-28.  Grant Erickson had 16 points and 4 steals while Jon Christensen had a 15/10 double-double and CJ Lewis added 14 points to lead the Falcons.  The Falcons had 17 assists.  Lewis Mau's 19 points was supported by Kevin Jensen's 14 and Tyson Kailen's 13 to pace the BluGolds.

Superior: 67  Stout: 59 - The Blue Devils kept things interesting, leading 35-30 at the half, and the game was tied 9 times with the lead changing hands on 7 occassions.  Leading 60-59 with under two minutes to play the Yellow Jackets closed out the remaining time with a 7-0 run when the Blue Devils went 0-3 from beyond the arc.   Brian Lindblom scored 21 points and added 8 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the Yellow Jackets.  Zach Schradle (16 points, 9 rebounds 5 assists) and Ty Ketz (13) led the Yellow Jackets.  Superior outscored the Blue Devils 21-10 from the free throw line.  Mac Oreskovic's 13 points and John Lathi's 10 points led the Blue Devils.

Platteville: 64  LaCrosse: 61 -  Similar to the Superior/Stout game this game saw the lead change hands 9 times and 8 ties.  The Eagles led, though by never more than 9 points, for 15 minutes and 59 seconds of the first half before Matt Oestreich's jumper gave the Pioneers a one point lead 32-31 at the half.  The two teams exchanged leads for the first seven and half minutes of the second half before the Eagles took the lead and with the exception of four ties held it until less than a minute and half remained.  Oestreich struck again giving the Pioneers the lead on a three point play and they went 6-6 from the free throw line to preserve it.  Jake Manning had a 25/10 double-double, Oestreich added 15 and Cory Vassen 13 for the Pioneers.  Skylar Cameron (18) and Jared Staege (13) led the Eagles.

At this point, it doesn't seem at all plausible that Point or Whitewater will lose in Stout and Menomonie, but stranger things have happened.

Point has lost out on a share of the conference title on the last night in the past (vs. Superior in '03-'04, at Platteville in '07-'08, at La Crosse in '09-'10, at Eau Claire in '11-'12).

For those of you keeping track at home, if SP had won those final games, then we would be talking about UWSP sharing or having won the outright conference championship for the last 7 years.

Point also lost the final game in '08-'09 to Platteville after already securing the conference title and the #1 seed in the WIAC tourney and at Oshkosh in '04-'05, which allowed Platteville to share in the conference title (Point was the #2 seed in the WIAC tourney).

For those of you keeping track at home AND paying attention, all three of UWSP's national championships came in seasons where they lost the regular season finale.

The only time that Whitewater has lost in the last night since '03-'04 was in '03-'04 (when Point lost at home to Superior in the finale)... WW lost at Stout 76-56. That last night of the year, River Falls also just squeaked by Platteville 50-47 to take the crown outright, but then couldn't beat then a few days later, losing to UWP by 3 in the Semi's of the WIAC tournament.

Conference Tournament:

Quote
Teams will be seeded 1 through 6 based on the final regular season conference standings.  If necessary, the following tie-breaker criteria will be applied to determine entry into the tournament or to seed teams with identical records:

1.    Head-to-head competition between tied teams;
2.    Cumulative Won/Loss record vs. teams placed higher in the conference standings;
3.    Record vs. teams in conference standings in descending order (i.e., #1 seed, #2 seed).

[Note:  When comparing tied teams against positions lower in the standings which are also tied, those "lower tied positions" are considered as a "single position" for purposes of comparison.  Example:  Team A and Team B tied for second would compare against Team X and Team Y tied for sixth as follows: Team A would compare its combined record against both X and Y versus Team B's combined record against both X and Y.];

4.    Team with the best road record in conference games;
5.    Coin toss conducted by the WIAC commissioner.

[Note:  If two (2) teams remain tied after a third or other teams are eliminated, the tiebreaker reverts to criteria No. 1.  For example, if four (4) teams are tied with 4-2, 3-3, 3-3, 2-4 head -to-head records, the 4-2 receives highest seed and the 2-4 team the lowest seed in the grouping.  Since two teams remain tied at 3-3, we revert back to criteria #1 (head-to-head) between those two teams and then (if necessary) utilize the remaining criteria in order.]

So, here's what we have in store for Saturday:

Point at Superior
WW at Stout
La Crosse is idle

None of these games have any bearing for what happens on Tuesday. Point and WW have both secured first round byes. But, if one wins and the other loses, then the winner has the top seed and the loser the #2 seed. If both lose, then WW is #1 and Point is #2 because the result vs. the higher seed (i.e. Superior) would be better for WW than SP.

La Crosse's season has ended. Even if EC loses their game and the two teams are tied at 6-10, EC will get the #6 seed and the bid to the WIAC tourney due to their 2-0 results H2H.

#6 EC (6-9) at #5 Oshkosh (7-8) - Osh won first meeting

If Oshkosh beats EC, then Osh stays at the 5 seed and EC stays at the 6. If EC wins, then both teams will be 7-9. The H2H would be split, and then the seeding depends upon the places of Platteville and RF (Eau Claire was 1-1 vs. Platte and 0-2 vs. RF; Osh was 1-1 vs. RF and 0-2 vs Platte).

#4 (9-6) Platte at #3 RF (9-6) - RF won first meeting

Winner is #3 seed, loser is #4 seed.

I know he was frustrated but I didn't like the move by Ragland stepping over our player late in the game.

Just Bill

Almost feels like they should share the perks of the #1 seed. Like UWW wins the flip so they get home court, but UWSP gets to play the lowest seed remaining in the semifinals. Probably too confusing but it would make sense in this case.

WARHAWKS: 86
Stout: 77

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game before the WARHAWKS countered with an 11-0 run and a 13-7 lead.  Stout countered that with their own 9-0 run to regain the lead and the two teams exchanged baskets and the lead to the midway point of the half.  Over the next four and half minutes the Blue Devils led by as many as five points until layups by Rahjan Muhammand and Ron Patten gave the WARHAWKS a 30-28 lead with five minutes remaining in the half.   The two teams exchanged baskets and the lead over the next couple of minutes when the WARHAWKS closed out the half with a 7-0 run on two three pointers from Muhammand and a layup by KJ Evans which made the score 43-36 when the half ended.  Muhammand went 4-4 from beyond the arc and finished the half with 16 points while Evans added 10 points and Quardell Young recorded 9 assists.  Stout was led by Jarvis Ragland who had 11 points and Jon Lathi who added 8 points.  The WARHAWKS shot 56% from the floor (19-34) while the Blue Devils shot 58% (7-12) from beyond the arc.  The WARHAWKS lead reached double figures early in the second half, reaching a high of fourteen, and it remained that way for the first five minutes.  After that the lead fluctuated between single and double figures.  The Blue Devils would get to within seven points on two occasions the last of which was with thirty-five seconds left in the game before Muhammand created the final score with a pair of free throws.  There were four ties and eleven lead changes in the game.

KJ Evans: 21 points, 6 rebounds
Rahjon Muhammand: 18 points (4-5 three points), 4 rebounds, 3 assists
Cody Odegaard: 17 points (3-5 three points)
Steve Egan: 15 points, 7 rebounds
Quardell Young: 8 points, 13 assists, 2 steals
Team: 57% from the floor (8-16 three points), 20 assists:5 turnovers, 44-24 in the paint
Stout:
Jarvis Ragland: 22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
Jon Lathi: 10 points, 2 assists
Brett Ahsenmacher: 6 points, 4 assists
Team: 13 three point baskets, 28-7 bench points

The fifteen win conference season set a program record for wins breaking the previous high of 14 that was last accomplished in the 1993-94 season.
