Pointer notes.

Point's 27 wins in WIAC tourney is 8 more than the next team.

Oshkosh and Point have met 4 times, all at Quandt, with Point winning 3 of them.

The #2 seed has won 3 of the last 5 tourneys.

Point has won the tourney as the #2 seed three times...in 2004, 2005 and 2010.

Interesting.  What else did they win in those years??  ???  ;D  :D

Then there were 4. Hard fought game in RF last night. Went back and forth and it looked like UWRF was going to pull away a couple of times when EC answered. Very nice, young UWRF team. I haven't seen Freshman like that since the Culy, Manor, and Smith and Superior time. I hope they continue to develop, add a couple because it looks like a top tier team for a few years. Maybe when the Falcon Center is complete they can host a few tourney games!!! Good luck to the WIAC teams!

When is that slated to be built? Are there any drawings for what it will look like, or is that too far down the road?

Interesting comment in one of the documents about the Karges Center:

Quote
Most of the spaces in the Karges Center date from the original 1959 construction and are not adequate to accommodate today's needs. The Karges Center competitive gymnasium, which was sized for a campus of 1,200 students, is not adequate to accommodate seating for today's enrollment and has a ceiling height that is too low by modern standards.

That last statement seems particularly appropriate during WIAC tourney season... http://www.d3hoops.com/notables/2001/02/stout-rout-caps-wacky-wiac

Will they turn the Karges into a student and tournament UFC facility?

I thought that Superior and River Falls were going to close down 10 years ago.  Now they are building more there.  What happened?

I completely agree.

Hard to tell what the capacity would be, but it would be more than Karges... and the ceiling certainly wouldn't be a factor!

I wonder if the "Field of Dreams" adage will hold true - If you build it, he will come:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMcQKz3H0yY

If you look at RF's attendance from the last 15 seasons, you'll notice that, frankly, attendance hasn't been great.

Though there was an uptick in 09-10 to 11-12, it wasn't that significant... it stayed within one standard deviation of the mean (even does that if you eliminate the 2003-04 outlier).

Year   UWRF
2000-01   675
2001-02   687
2002-03   730
2003-04   959
2004-05   399
2005-06   394
2006-07   296
2007-08   356
2008-09   349
2009-10   440
2010-11   544
2011-12   615
2012-13   262
2013-14   304
2014-15   319
Average   489

So, the question is, will an exciting player like Rich Melzer come after RF builds this new facility? It was he who brought the crowds in the early Aughts.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ1dZhh0_RQ

People will come to see the players, I think, and the new facility will help to get them there.

Idk. There have been good players. Koonkaew, Voltz, Manor, Guerin. I would question the numbers on some of those years. I guess I would look at it like who wouldn't want to play in a 63.5 million dollar facility. From worst facility to best. Only other wiac recently to compete with uwsp and uww. Yep I see them doing very well in years to come.

These are averages though. So for every attendance figure in February with 1000, there's one in late December or early November with 200...

The fact that the students don't come back until the third week of January really hurts WIAC attendance numbers. Interestingly, one could argue that it should hurt MORE than it does... but that speaks to the lack of substantial student attendance at each of our schools.

There's no reason why schools the size of the WIAC schools don't have attendance that leads the nation (even more so than Point does now, but this is largely from the community, rather than the student population). But that's another discussion altogether.
