Ethan Bublitz, 6'2" Guard out of Kettle Moraine Lutheran, has also committed to the National Champs.  He looks to be a versatile player who can handle point guard duties or move over to the shooting guard.  Mark Miller has Bublitz ranked 35th in his top 50 senior players list.  Hopefully this is just the beginning because I have about 3-5 more guys I've seen who I really hope end up at UWSP.

And the rich get richer!

To that end, I will be the first to admit that I grossly underestimated those pointers this year. I've vowed to never do that again! I'm wondering, given the recent success of Whitewater and poignant over the last, oh I don't know, 12 years or so, If there is room at the top for programs like Oshkosh and lacrosse and Platteville? Perennially I think Whitewater and point will be the cream of the crop, but will be his other programs ever have the opportunity? I know river was there not too long ago, and so was Oshkosh, at least that I recall.
While I applaud the success of both of those programs, I wonder if the League wouldn't grossly benefit from having Stout or lacrosse challenge more regularly?
It is probably a rhetorical question, but after point seems to come out of left field to win it all this year, it makes me wonder if that doesn't widen the disparity between the haves and the have not in this league.
I will likely ponder that until late September as it is golf season now. All the best to most of you!

Yeah, but there was also a point in time where we though Platteville would never lose a conference title again. Things go in cycles. Some cycles last longer than others.

Winning cuts both way in recruiting. Some recruits love to go to a winning program, but others would rather find a program where they can have a more immediate impact and build their own thing. I've been part of championship programs and sometimes the recruiting actually gets harder.

In good spirits, and I hope he takes it this way, since he posted this earlier this spring:

That last picture of you and Little Spartan means there are now two people who are shorter than the trophy pictured.  ;)
Congrats again on the Pointers' 4th, and what a scrapbook you and the little one are building...

Actually, you're the second to admit it:

Quite an amazing weekend.  Never thought it would happen this year.

There's a restaurant in Lomira off U.S. 41 called Bublitz's where my friends and I always used to eat on our annual whitewater rafting trip up north. I wonder if this kid is any relation to the restaurant people, since Jackson (where Kettle Moraine Lutheran HS is located) is less than thirty miles from Lomira.

Greek Tragedy

I really thought this was the year that other teams would step up and challenge Whitewater and Point. Though a lot ran through KJ Evans and Young, the Warhawks still lost Hearn, Bryson and Merg while Point lost arguably more in Hass, Tillema and Heuer. I'm almost disappointed in the WIAC that no other teams can challenge the juggarnauts of Whitewater and Point. I guess that's a testament to Miller and Semling. I mean, Semling really did the job getting 5 role players to step up and play the way they played this year.

It's been a long time that any team has contended for the title on a semi-regular basis other than Whitewater and Point. Is the WIAC becoming (or has become) a top-heavy league? I always prided the WIAC on being a deep league, but maybe I should change that stance now.

Is next year the year for a change? Whitewater loses 1st team pre-season All-American KJ Evans, 1st team All-American Quardell Young, steady Cody Odegaard and post man Steve Egan. Point obviously loses Ryf, Richard, Ritchay and Lutz. As for Point, I guess I'll have to wait for 2020.  ::) ;D ;)

Dekker would be dumb to go pro, IMO. Ask Vander Blue how he's doing.
I think Dekker helped his chances of being a 1st Round pick tonight!!!   ;D

Oshkosh is up and coming. They were the last team to beat Point and they had just two seniors who played a total of 14 games with minimal effect. I haven't really looked at rosters or thought much about next year yet, but Oshkosh will likely have higher expectations next season.

Concerning teams but named Whitewater and Stevens Point... In the last decade, Point, Whitewater, Platteville, Stout, River Falls and LaCrosse have all made the tournament. If you go back 15 years, you add Eau Claire and Oshkosh. That's the ENTIRE conference now that Superior is jumping ship for the UMAC.

Super will have a great shot at a spot in the dance with the move... 4 of their 9 wins were against UMAC foes this year.

They were 1-1 last year, 3--1 two years ago, 3-1 three years ago. The two most recent losses were to Northwestern, white the loss three years ago was to St. Scholastica.

So it's no given, but I think they've got as good a shot as anyone.

Anyway, some of these teams haven't been relevant in a while (looking at you Eau Claire and Stout). LA Cruise has been in the second tier but hasn't been able to consistently compete with their purple cousins to the east... And they've had their own issues in the job conference and with "second tier" teams too.

It really begs the question of what you're looking for... Point and Whitewater have combined to win two of the last six national titles. Point was primed to repeat but got tripped up by a hot St Thomas team who finished the job in Salem themselves. It will take a LOT for a team to rise to national prominence from not even being able to complete in the conference... But to start, teams need to take care of the non conference. Back 10-15 years ago, the WIAC was consistently winning 80% of their non conference games. This slipped to under 60% this season (if I recall correctly). If a team is going into the conference schedule with a sub .500 record, it is going to be very difficult to earn a pool C bid.

Yes he did. Even though I think Dekker is far better than Vander Blue, one good tournament (like Blue)  doesn't mean you'll be an NBAer. Obviously I hope he stays.

Obviously. Doesn't everyone mean 4 of the last 6 when they say 2 of the last 6?

BTW, I still love the look you're getting from Aaron Bonnett in the pic from 2005... Classic!
