Haven't done the math but I wonder how many of the WIAC's players come from states outside of Wisconsin. I'd imagine that 70-80% come from Wisconsin with Minnesota (especially Stout & RF), Iowa and Illinois being the other states with the most kids.

High turnover rate of D3 student-athletes choosing not to play anymore I would have to imagine comes from the fact that you don't have to sign scholarship papers and are paying your own $ to attend that institution. I do wonder how many, after quitting playing a spot, decide to stay at that school.

Prior to 2002, how many WIAC teams needed to go into Illinois or other states to recruit...most of the talent stayed in the WIAC. Now with D2's, especially the NSIC and GLVC recruiting Wisconsin, there are a lot more kids who leave the state. Interesting turn of events for the league.

League continues to have high level teams at the top, judging by the Natty Championships of course!

Greek Tragedy

River Falls' 2015-2016 roster is up. Otherwise, I used last season's  rosters

SP: 12 Wisconsin, 1 Illinois

LX: 14 W, 3 MN

ST: 8 W, 4 MN

RF*: 1 W, 9 MN, 1 IL, 1 CO

WW: 12 W, 4 IL, 1 MO

EC: 6 W, 13 MN

OSH:14 W, 3 IL

PL: 9 W, 6 IL, 2 IA, 1 MN, 1 CA

The only Wisconsin player on River Falls is from River Falls. Ironically,  Jack Herum started his collegiate career at Whitewater.

76 of 126 (60%) from Wisconsin

15 from Illinois

30 from Minnesota

Platteville, Eau Claire  and River Falls  have more players from out of state than they do from Wisconsin.

Greek Tragedy with the win!
Thats good stuff...60% from Wisconsin last year. I've heard Oshkosh has quite a few more Illinois kids, I think Platteville continues to recruit out of the state as I don't remember seeing any WBCA All Stars on their recruiting class, assuming RF, EC continue to go to Minnesota. Seems like every year it gets more and more saturated with out of state talent...potentially why attendance numbers in the league continue to plummet league wide, no personal connection between fans and players anymore. SP would be the one that hasn't declined (I'm assuming), and they continue to have a strong nucleus of mainly (almost 100%) from Wisconsin.
I think this will be an interesting year for the WIAC.

IMHO, I really don't care where the player is from. I am surprised that the % of Wisconsin-based players isn't  actually higher. But, if a kid comes from Ashland or Arkansas, I will cheer for him for the 4 years he's here. If he comes from Stevens Point, yeah, there's a little more meaning to that. I mean, I didn't  poo poo the Kalsows because they were from Illinois and i didn't  poo poo Bryan Beamish because he was from Wisconsin Rapids (high school rival of Stevens Point ).

I think the disconnect could come from transfers that only come for a year or two and then leave or where a program has a revolving door of players with a high turnover rate. There isn't  anyone to grow with.

A lot of my friends like the Seattle Seahawks because Russell Wilson  went to Wisconsin. He went for one year. I have no love for him or the Seahawks!

We've reloaded.  ;D

I'll bite, you get some new information BW??

Yes, from a reliable source. ;)

I'm not going to discuss names at this point.  But I will say that we've got some size and talent on campus.  Some of whom will have an immediate impact.

2 things of note...

Of the 16 players on River Falls' preseason roster, 14 are from Minnesota, wow.

And of bigger note, ex Milwaukee Washington star and University of Washington transfer Quevyn Winters has transferred to Whitewater.  He has to sit out this season, but another wow, Pat Miller has done it again.

You should really start giving Mark Miller some credit for the things you post....  It's like reading his Twitter feed....

That's where I get it from, and I pay for a wissports subscription...so they get my money.

Just Bill

Why does he have to sit out this season?

There's a D-I rule that transfers have to sit out, but that wouldn't apply here since he's arriving at a D-III. And there's a WIAC-to-WIAC conference transfer rule but I don't think that applies either. Maybe it's personal or academic.

How many years of eligibility will he have at Whitewater?
