Davenport 85  Whitewater 74

I forgot to bring this game up but Davenport has been a really good NAIA II team out of Grand Rapids for a few years now with a couple deep runs in the NAIA tournament.  Last year they upset NAIA II #1 in the quarterfinals before losing in the semi's.    I was pretty interested in how this game would go.  This was by far Davenports toughest game and move to 6-0, not a bad loss for WW at all.

Tomorrow night they play at Platteville.

Hope outclassed tonight.  Brian Carroll and Big K were no-shows.  Downtown was too appealing?

Hope's bigs can play.  Should be a good game tonight.

Greek Tragedy

Eau Claire 79 Luther 65

Playing in Waukesha at the Carroll University tournament,  the Blugolds built a 17-pt halftime lead. Martinek had 17 pts and 6 rebs, while Diekelman had 16 and 3, and Schneidermann contributed 15 and 9 for the winners.

Game Story/Boxscore

Monmouth 63 Stout 50
Stout blew a 10-pt halftime lead and finally lost their lead with about 7 minutes to go, scoring just 3 points after that. Monmouth is picked 2nd in the MWC, so there were positives in that loss. Isaac Elliot was the only Blue Devil in double digits with 14 pts and 5 boards.

Game Story/Boxscore

Davenport 85 Whitewater 74
The hosts were within two of the NAIA #3 team, but couldn't pull out the win. Edmondson had a huge game despite the loss, going for 17 pts and 19 rebounds. White also had 17 for the Warhawks.

Game Story/Boxscore

River Falls 67 Superior 55
The Falcons finally got off the schide and topped conference foe Superior up in Canada. 4 players scored in double-digits for the visitors. Pearson had 17 and 6, Christensen with 13 and 10, Herum contributed 13 and 11, and C.J. Llewis added 10.

Game Story/Boxscore

Hope 75 La Crosse 47
The Eagles were down just 32-29 at halftime vs #16 Hope but scorw only 18 points after the break. DevinYurk was the only one in double-digits with 13 pts and 4 boards, while Ben Meinholz tallied 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Game Story/Boxscore

Coe 75 Oshkosh 70
The visiting Kohawks upset the hosts as Oshkosh failed to win their home opener. It was a surprise loss for a team that's supposed to contwnd for the WIAC title this year. As usual, Alex Olson lead the way with 11 pts and 2 rebounds. Mueller added 9 and 9.

Game Story/Boxscore

Platteville 82 Finlandia 62
The Pioneers were up 26 at the break and cruised from there. Boston Johnson lead 4 players in double-figures with 14 points. Sigel and Oestreich had 13 and 10. Colin Connelly came off the bench to add 12 points and 4 rebounds.

Game Story/Boxscore

The WIAC was 3-4 last night, giving the conference an overall record of 8-11 with all 8 teams in action tonight.

Greek Tragedy

I noticed no Hjelter for Eau Claire  and neither Kujak brothers for Stout.

Any insight?

Wondering about that conference record, Greek: does it include the competition against D2 and the D1 exhibitions? I could probably do the research and figure it out but I've got a foot out the door to go slay that big buck up here in God's Country.

I had heard read somewhere I believe on a football page that Hank Kujak left the last football game in Whitewater due to an injury. Perhaps it's a nagging injury? But the rest of Stout's no-shows are curious: Reggie Kujak, Brett Ahsenmacher, and Cory Speer didn't show in the box score and they still had 11 show up getting more than garbage minutes. Yowza! Once Eddie adds the rest of those guys into the mix (assuming they are still in the program), he might need to petition the WIAC for longer games.

Looking at the Oshkosh box, Olson and Wallace both under 20 minutes on the night. Noone and Boots both had more minutes than Olson. Curious to say the least. First time that the Coehawks have beaten a ranked team in a while and I'm not sure how good of a team they are. Wondering if Oshkosh doesn't have some kinks to work out.

These early season games kind of confuse me. But then again I'm oft confused.

Greek Tragedy

The record is gor games that count. The Kohawks tied Dubuque for 2nd in the IIAC behind Buena Vista. BV lost in the conference tourney and didn't get an NCCA bid. Dubuque did. Coe split with both of them during the regular season. So hardly pushovers, but someone Oshkosh needs to beat.

Falcons04

Caught the last few minutes of UWRF vs. MN Crookston online......RF won on a fade away from Brennan Witt with 2 seconds left. Announcers said it was his only basket of the game. They also said RF led by 17 at the half before Crookston tied it late. Pearson with 23 according to broadcast

After leading 45-26 at half, Falcons hold on to win 81-79. Christenson w/27, Pearson w /23, Lewis w/17 led scoring. Falcons shot 50.8%, Crookston 50%.

Tough loss for the Pointers at home. Semling will probably start playing the younger players to prepare them for next year and future years. This year is probably a loss cause.

Quit that doom & gloom stuff!  Point had a bad shooting night and Hope was on fire from deep. Hope is a veteran team and took advantage of the mistakes the young Pointers made, especially in the second half when 10 Point turnovers led to 17 points! The play from Goedeke has to be viewed as very encouraging, he is light years ahead of Gjertson offensively. Point's two seniors had bad second halves (2-13 fg and 5 to's by Pelkofer) trying to do too much to come back. The big moment in the game was the 3 pointer by Eidson at the end of the first half. Point had cut a 10 pt deficit to four and Eidson's 25 footer with 8 seconds left swished in and restored Hope's momentum and blunted Point's.

The Davenport game has been mentioned so I'll just get up to date with a report on the game with Findlandia.

Finlandia: 52
WARHAWKS: 80

After Finlandia built a lead which reached at high of seven, 11-4, after three minutes the WARHAWKS went on a 12-4 run and a layup by Cole VanSchyndel gave them a lead, 16-15, they would hold for the rest of the game.  The WARHAWKS lead reached a high of nine, 26-17, with just over three minutes remaining in the half and ended at six,  29-23, when the half ended.  Ethan Guske's 7 points led the WARHAWKS who finished the half shooting 37%.  The WARHAWKS had 11-0 and 11-2 scoring advantages off of turnovers and from the bench respectively.  Finlandia hit a couple of free throws to start the scoring in the second half and get within four points but that was as close as it would get.    The WARHAWKS lead was in excess of twenty for the final thirteen and half minutes.

Guske and Trinson White each finished with 14 points while Drew Bryson and Andre Brown chipped in 10 apiece to lead the WARHAWKS.  White's 6 rebounds and Nygobi's 4 assists led the team.  VanSchyndel was 3 of 4 from the floor for six points and added 5 rebounds in eight minutes.

As has been expected the team is a work in progress.  There's plenty of talent and good players.  It's just going to take time to get all of them on the same page.

I'd check with the NCAA and see if you can just scrimmage with your gray shirts the rest of the year.  😇😇
