Long time Pointer fan, season ticket holder, etc. and been reading all on this board quite a while. Haven't posted in a long time, don't like when players are personally named & criticized, for any team.  Mainly why I don't post.  I totally agree however with St.Thomas defense being the key...the best helping defense I have seen in quite a while. Main reason why Point had to throw up such contested shots before the shot clock went off, especially the 2nd half.  Really impressed with St Thomas in all phases and I saw Augustana in the National Championship game in Salem.  Both look to be potential Final Four teams playing for the national title.  And, much of the game Point had 3 freshman and a sophmore on the floor...they will get better!

Point has to get shots up faster against a team D like that.

You make a good point... SP has played the top schedule in the nation (according to Massey) for any team not named Louisiana College (who has played an unbelievable schedule... Played - and beat - McNeese State (D-I), played LSU-Alexandria (NAIA-I) TWICE, Played Northwestern State (D-I), and Nicholls State (D-I), with Alcorn State (D-I) forthcoming.

Point's offense is deceptively concept. It is predicated upon movement, cuts, and spacing, and it takes players (and teams) a while to get in the groove. That's part of the reason why you don't see a lot of Freshmen who are able to step right in and contribute.

And not only does Point have a bunch of young guys who are just learning the ropes (and adjusting to the college game), they've played the #1, #4, and #5 teams in the land. They've beaten St. Norbert (now #23)

This team is going to get better. They've got too much talent and are too well coached to just fritter away the season as a whole. But there will continue to be some growing pains.

I thought I advised they just cancel the season and play the grayshirts for a year to see if they can be good enough to run with the Warhawks and Titans this year.  No one listened. Typical.  ;D

RF over Viterbo 89-82. Falcons led 51-32 at half, but had to hang on as they saw their lead dwindle to 5 late in the game. Christensen with 26 and Pearson with 16 and 10 rbds. led Falcons.

Concordia - Chicago: 84
WARHAWKS: 107

The first half was a back and forth affair that saw the two teams tied five times and the lead exchanged eight times.  The WARHAWKS led by ten, 27-17, but a 12-2 run by Concordia tied the game with nine minutes remaining in the half.  After that the lead changed hands twice.  Concordia gained the lead 39-38 and built it to three points before the WARHAWKS used a pair of layups to go ahead and hold the lead for the final three minutes of the half which ended 45-44.  The WARHAWKS shot 52% from the floor.  Concordia shot 47% and kept the game close by sinking 6 of 14 three point baskets.  The WARHAWKS bench outscored Concordia's 13-1 and the team was able to get inside outscoring Concordia 28-14.  Cole Van Schyndel's 16 points led the WARHAWKS scorers and his 5 rebounds tied Andre Brown for a team high.  The two teams traded the lead twelve  times in the first six minutes of the second half when WHITEWATER went ahead  64-63.  The lead grew to double figures over the next four minutes or so and grew to a high of twenty-six just before the game ended.  The WARHAWKS shot 77% in the second half and dominated the boards 50-22 outscoring Concordia 72-30 in the paint.  White and Brown each had 21 points, Van Schyndel added 20.  Freshman Michael Pfeifer saw his longest stint on floor (21 minutes) adding 13 points and tying Van Schyndel with a game high 9 rebounds.  Maurquis Turner rounded out double digit WARHAWKS with 10 points.  Brown finished with a game high 8 assists.  Twenty-two lead changes and seven ties made it a pretty interesting twenty-five minutes or so.   It was Van Schyndel's third game with at least 20 points.  After scoring just 32 points in the season's first five game Van Schyndel has scored 69 in the last three.  I wouldn't expect that to continue for the rest of the season but he's making a much more significant contribution than many anticipated.

Concordia had two nice guards, Kylan Anderson and Mike Walmer.  Anderson finished with a game high 24 points though he had to take twenty-three shots to get them.  He was really quick off the dribble and could get his shot off seemingly in the blink of an eye.  Walmer was a good outside and medium range shooter who finished with 22 points.

Cardinals fans like Daron are freaking out all over the country as the Cubs sign multiple free agents.  It's that or the pay is better.  ::)

Greek Tragedy

Whitewater 6-2
Ripon, Davenport, Finlandia, Ohio Northern, Augustana, Beloit, Wheaton (IL), Concordia - Chicago

No wins that stand out as everyone is at or below .500 on the season. They were no match for #1 Augustana. Luckily, the loss against Davenport means little, if anything, come tourney time.

12/27 vs Concordia  (TX) (at Trinity (TX))
12/28 vs FDU - Florham (at Colorado College)
12/30 at Colorado College

Oshkosh (6-3)
St. Norbert, Coe, Wisconsin Lutheran,  Edgewood, Viterbo, Maranatha Baptist, Carthage, Adrian, Trine

St. Norbert and Trine are a combined 15-2, but that loss to Coe could really cost the Titans down the road.

12/29 vs Augustana (Wisconsin Dells)
12/30 at Carroll (Wisconsin Dells)

Eau Claire (5-4)
St. Thomas, Luther, Carroll, Concordia (WI), Northland, Buena Vista, Wartburg, Viterbo, St. Norbert

Loss the tough games, but also won some games they were supposed to.

12/29 vs Coe
12/30 vs Superior/St. Olaf

Platteville (5-4)
Lake Forest, Dubuque, Finlandia, Davenport, Luther, Coe, North Central (IL), Loras, Hope

Quality schedule for the Pioneers but failed to win any of the "big" games.

12/29 vs McMurry (at Schreiner)
12/30 at Schreiner

Stevens Point (4-4)
Superior, St. Olaf, Hope, St. Norbert, Augustana, North Central (IL), Lawrence, St. Thomas,

Loss to three potential Final Four teams and beat 2 quality opponents in St. Olaf and St. Norbert.

12/22 at Edgewood
12/29 vs Keene St (Phoenix)
12/30 vs Hamilton  (Phoenix)

River Falls (4-4)
Concordia (WI), Bethel, Superior, Minnesota - Crookston, St. Olaf, Hamline, Carleton, St. Thomas , Viterbo

Quality win over St. Olaf, but a bad loss against Concordia offsets that.

12/29 vs Alma (St. Norbert )
12/30 vs Anderson/St. Norbert

La Crosse (4-5)
Augustana, Lakeland, Hope, Bethel, Viterbo,  Loras, Coe, Central, Luther

Another quality nonconference schedule, but can't get a big win.

12/29 at La Verne
12/30 at Caltech

Stout (2-5)
Minnesota - Crookston, Monmouth, Bethany Lutheran, Superior, Buena Vista, Dubuque, Northwestern

Nice win over Dubuque,  but playing 2 games short of a full schedule.

12/29 vs Pacific Lutheran  (Las Vegas)
12/30 vs Skidmore

He sure wasn't there very long.

He'd also been a finalist for about 4 or 5 other AD jobs over the last 2 years before landing this one. It seems UWSP was always a stepping stone to him.

What does everyone think of the 30 second shot clock ? I prefer the 35 second clock, but haven't noticed a great difference. Any observations ?

Given that I've seen one shot clock violation so far I don't think it's made much of a difference.  It will be interesting (at least to me) to see if it has it's desired effect of increasing scoring.

I think it'll be advantageous to teams that press or we'll see more teams use a press. If a press can get you to use 5-7 seconds in the back court and then 10-12 seconds in the front court playing stalwart defense - that gets the offense down to 10-15 seconds on the clock when teams can get a little jumpy. Scoring might not actually increase in those situations because shooting percentage could go down. I've watched a goodly amount of D1 on tv and I've noticed (albeit anecdotally) more teams adding some back court pressure and I surmise that's why.

According to Dave Skretta in an AP article teams are scoring 6 points more per team per game.  Teams have each gotten about 4 more possessions per game, and taken about 5 more shot attempts per game.  According to the NCAA 75% of the extra points have been due to increased pace, and 25% increased scoring efficiency.  The consensus is teams are playing faster, and at a higher level.  Only one additional foul is being called on each team per game.  The big question now seems to be if officials will call games the same way the rest of the season.

Granted the above numbers use D1 as the base, but doubt the numbers are that different at D3 level.
