Point goes down at Eau Claire. Pelkofer shoots 1-12.

Oshkosh and River Falls in OT

Bublitz 1-14 making their starting guards 2-26, a whopping 8% shooting percentage.

Has to be the worst shooting Point team in at least 30 years. Rarely got open looks and when they did, nohing fell.

Either La Crosse was on fire tonight, or Plattevlle is worse than expected.  Probably a combination of both.

RF beat a very good Titan team tonite, maybe the quickest team in the league. Ex Warhawk, Jack Herum from RF, the hero. Christensen with 31, Pearson w/14, for RF. Noone w/ 20 for Titans, Alex Olson w/ 15-16.

My vote for Freshman of the Year goes to Boots of Oshkosh--very good game. Of course, I have not seen another league team. RF played at full strength for the first time this year with Erickson in the starting lineup.

What happened at the end of regulation? UWO up by two and a foul called with 7 seconds left? Did RF get the ball up that quick?

WARHAWKS: 75
Stout: 59

After each team missed a three point attempt Jerry Ngobi opened the scoring putting the WARHAWKS on top and the score remained close with a few lead changes until Trinson White's layup with three and half minutes remaining gave the WARHAWKS a lead, 24-22, that they would hold for the rest of the evening.  The first half ended 31-27.  Haki Stampley and White each scored 10 points while Stampley 3 assists and steal and White pulled down 7 rebounds, dished out an assist and had 3 steals.  The WARHAWKS lead reached to double digits after the first four minutes of the second stanza though Stout was able to reduce it a couple of times until Cole VanSchyndel made both ends of a bonus to make the score 45-34 at the sixteen minute mark and the double digit lead permanent.  After that the lead reached a high of 20 points, 72-52, with a couple of minutes to play.   The WARHAWKS shot 52% from the floor including 7/21 from beyond the arc.

Stampley: 26 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 1 steal
White: 14 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 3 steals
Ngobi: 14 points, 4:1 assist:turnover, 4 steals
VanSchyndel: 11 points

There was 15 seconds remaining when Jansen made his second free throw giving the Titans the two point lead.  The Titan foul occurred with 7 seconds left so the Falcons had 8 seconds to advance the ball before the foul was called.

I'm really happy for Jack.  He's a great kid.  I wish he had stayed but I'm glad he's found his spot and things are going well for him.

Fred, what's your take on the difference Erickson will make.  My hunch is huge.

VOTT--After Titans took the lead, Pearson was fouled and made both free throws to tie it at the end of regulation. Everything had to go right for us to win the game, obviously. Erickson had fouled out, so I was not optimistic.

BW--Erickson's addition will be very significant. He had an average game vs. Osh., but average for him is very good. He's still not back to normal because of his knee injury. The freshman guard, Halverson, filled in capably for him, but averaged about 2 pts. per game. However, he gained a lot of experience so we're deeper at guard now.

Yes, Jack is a great kid.  But the Warhawks got the benefit of his brother Marty's contribution to the baseball team for a year when he was WIAC most valuable player as a freshman. Marty batted 303 for his double A team last season as a shortstop.

If you read Jack's comments on his WIAC Spotlight Player of the Week on the WIAC site, it's possible to see his loyalties to RF, the city, and the Falcons. They're really inspiring, at least to me.

As I was looking at revising some of my picks for the Pickem, it occurred to me to look up Stout's last conference win. Didn't rememeber their poor finish 2 seasons ago. February 8th, 2014 was the date. That's 22 straight WIAC losses (21 regular and 1 tournament game.) Then I looked at their last road WIAC win, January 25th at Eau Claire. Hopefully they can get something going here soon.

Booster shot for Pointer fans - the local paper had a recent story reminiscing on the back-to-back D3 hoops titles in 2004-05:

La Crosse would have beaten just about anybody playing as it did on Wednesday. There is nothing wrong with Platteville.

WW 69 SP 63

Whitewater nearly blows a 19 point second half lead to earn their 2nd conference win and send Point to 0-2 in conference. SP had it down to a 2 point game a couple of times late but that's as close as they made it.
