After missing their first two shots and turning the ball over the WARHAWKS trailed 7-0 before Haki Stampley's jumper got us on the board.  The Pointers held a single digit lead which reached a high of six points for just over half the half when the WARHAWKS tied the game 16-16 on an Andre Brown free throw.  Fredrickson's three pointer regained the lead for the Pointers around the eight minute mark and they held a single digit lead for the next four minutes or so.  With about three and half minutes Jerry Ngobi sank a pair of free throws putting the WARHAWKS on top 24-23, a lead they would never surrender the rest of evening.  That lead reached five before the half ended on a jumper by Luke Zunker creating a 28-25 score at the half.   The WARHAWKS were getting the ball inside outscoring the Pointers 18-4 in the paint.  Trinson White had 11 points and 6 rebounds to lead the WARHAWKS.  Stampley added 6 and Drew Bryson added 5 rebounds.  The lead remained in single digits, closing to a single point once, for the first six minutes of the second half.  At that point, 35-34, the WARHAWKS got hot  and the Pointers went cold missing their next seven shots which coupled with a pair of turnovers allowed the WARHAWKS to make an 18 point run pushing the lead to a seemingly insurmountable 53-34 with seven and half minutes to play.  However the lead apparently didn't seem as insurmountable to the Pointers as it was the WARHAWKS who went cold and over the next five minutes missed shots and turned the ball over four times while the Pointers cut the lead down to just two points 57-55.   Andre Brown's layup created breathing room and a second one on the next possession followed by a pair of free throws on the next made it 63-55 with about half a minute.  Ngobi would make a layup while Brown and Bryson would each make a pair of free throws the rest of the way.

The WARHAWKS defense held the Pointers to 38% from the floor while shooting 56% themselves.  The Pointers forced 16 WARHAWKS turnovers including 8 steals giving them a 17-9 scoring advantage off of them.  Scoring in the paint was closer in the second half but for the game the WARHAWKS held a significant 44-28 advantage.

Always nice getting a "W" against Point. Looking at the stats, coach Miller only rolled out 7 guys in that game. Looks like a short bench this season against tougher opponents, with some very heavy minutes on the starting 5.

Greek Tragedy

Without looking at the boxscores of recent years, hasn't that been the case lately...starters playing heavy minutes and Whitewater going only about 7 deep?

Without checking I'd say that 7-8 is probably the norm.

I can't recall if the WIAC uses media timeouts in the regular season, but if so, you can totally get by with a short rotation. Makes a big difference in NCAA Tournament games too.

Media timeouts are taken in all conference games regardless of whether media is present or not.  That was a decision the league made a couple of years ago.  In WHITEWATER we have them in out of conference games too.

In the case of UWW, ESPN requires them.   ;)

Anybody try listening to the Pointer Hoops Radio Show going on right now??  I hit the live stream and all I'm getting is a high school girls basketball game and there isn't any other streams available.

New poll is out.

Not surprisingly, Point drops out but someone is still voting for them. They got 2 points. Whitewater moves up a spot to 14th.

Ben Boots with 27 on Saturday...Stevens Point stumbles in Eau Claire but shows life in the 2nd half at Whitewater. Pelkofer and Bublitz a combine 2-26 fgs at Eau Claire...Platteville forgot to ahow up in La Crosse, losing by 31 and then lost at home to Oshkosh. Boston Johnson lead the way in both games for Platteville...Stout hung tough for a half vs Whitewater but couldn't sustain that after the break. They put a scare into River Falls on Saturday. Am surprised only one senior in this group.  A formidable looking team going forward.

Surprised Dylan Graf does not see more minutes.

Been out of the loop - what happened to Guske?

The party is probably over for La Crosse.  Tough games at Oshkosh and hosting Whitewater.

A hard to believe stat:  RF had only 3 turnovers, none by a starter. WW had 14. Falcons made 6/6 f.t. in the final 1.5 minutes.
