Pioneers up by 3 SP hits a 3 pt basket with 26 seconds left. Platteville calls time out to set up the last  shot then throws the ball away. SP hits a 3 pointer with no time for the win. Another 3 pointer late in the game means another close loss for the Gard brothers.

River Falls: 75
WARHAWKS: 70

A jumper from Trinson White and a layup by Haki Stampley opened the scoring and the WARHAWKS took a lead that eventually would grow to a high of fifteen points, 26-11, with nine minutes remaining in the half.  The Falcons would cut it to four, 33-29, but the WARHAWKS finished the half with a 7-1 run and led 40-30 at the half.  The WARHAWKS outshot the Falcons 53% to 37% and hit 5 three pointers to the Falcons 2.  Stampley's 12 points led both teams while Cole VanSchyndel added 10.  Led by White's 11 the WARHAWKS outrebounded the Falcons 24-17.  Garret Pearson's three pointer opened the second half and cut the WARHAWKS lead to single digits where it remained until Drew Bryson's layup made the score 47-37.  The Falcons responded quickly cutting the deficit back into single digits and went 9 of 11 from the floor with 3 three point baskets over the next six and half minutes and took the lead 59-58 when Connor Goodwin completed the "and one."   The WARHAWKS quickly got the lead back when Stampley sank a three pointer and a two to four point lead until there was less than a minute and half to play.  Trailing 68-66 Pearson sank a clutch three pointer putting the Falcons on top.  From that point the Falcons went 6 of 6 from the line while the WARHAWKS turned the ball over and missed their final three shots.  The shooting reversed itself in the second half and the Falcons outshot the WARHAWKS 57% to 39% including a 5-2 advantage from outside the arc.  However both teams shot 46% for the game and made 7 three pointers.  The Falcons took incredible care of the ball in the game but particularly in the second half when they had no turnovers and held a 13-2 point advantage off of ours

Van Schyndel: 20 points, 6 rebounds
Stampley: 19 points
Andre Brown: 10 points, 5 assists
White: 9 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists

Peasons: 24 points, 4 rebounds
Christenson: 12 points, 3 assists

BW--I didn't get a good look at it online, but I think Jack Herum stole the ball by diving on the floor and then calling timeout late in the game. I think it was close to the scorer's table. He did the very same thing at about that point in the Oshkosh game. He doesn't score much, but makes great contributions of that kind often.

Yes, that is what happened.  There are some who would argue he traveled before calling time because he rolled over in the process.  But I'm not one of them because I can't say the call would have changed anything.  True it was a one point game at the time but we were clearly on our heels and the momentum had completely swung in the Falcons' favor.

It was good to see Jack again.  We spoke briefly beforehand and I told him to have a good game but not to do anything that was clutch.  Unfortunately ....

What an upcoming weekend. All four games could go either way.

Platteville (0-3) at Stout (0-3)
Stout has a chance of breaking their 0-23 streak. They lost their last four games of '13-'14. After being hammered in La Crosse, Platteville has lost their last two by a combined 8 points.

Oshkosh (2-1) at Stevens Point (1-2)
Point finished off their Championship run last year, going 14-1. Their only loss was to Oshkosh, at home, in the WIAC tourney. The Titans also lost by just 3 on a halfcourt buzzer beater earlier in the season to Point. Has the tide changed?

River Falls (3-0) at Eau Claire (2-1)
I think this game reaks of upset. The Falcons are coming off a big win at Whitewater and now take the short trip to Zorn. Eau Claire upset Point to kick off the WIAC season.

Whitewater (2-1) at La Crosse (2-1)
Whitewater is steaming from their loss to the Falcons and now head cross-state to the Mississippi River. The Eahles started off with two blowout victories, but were topped by Oshkosh. Will that 2-0 start be a distant memory after Saturday?

The Falcon/EC game does reek of upset, unfortunately. Stout was a very pesky team for RF. Oshkosh is the most impressive RF opponent I've seen this year. I would guess that 2 conference losses could tie or win a championship.

Really? Just two losses? Everyone, except River Falls, already has at least one loss through just 3 games. I could see three teams ending up 10-4 to win it, maybe an 11-3 team and two 10-4 teams 2nd and 3rd.

Platteville survives at Stout  66 to 62 and Oshkosh beats Point 64 to 59.  How many loses will the WIAC champ have?

fredfalcon

RF 78, EC 66. Christensen, Lewis, Pearson had 17, 12, 12 respectively. Buckley and Witt had 9 each off the bench. Martinek and Kohner had 18, 16 respectively. RF led by 26 w/9 minutes or so left, but I did  not watch from there on out, so don't know why they lost that big lead.
