The Sporting News recently came out with their preseason rankings.  Wisconsin teams in the top 25 include Whitewater at #3 and St Norbert at #5.  I get St Norbert, a sweet 16 team that returns their entire starting lineup.  Whitewater I don't get, atleast in the preseason.  They are definitely a program that just reloads and you can never take them lightly.  But am I missing something having them as a top 5 team??  They had a substandard year for them last year and lose 2 of their best players.  Do they have some big transfers coming in that haven't been announced??
You are giving the Sporting News WAAAAY too much credit for the amount of research they put into this poll. Your previous paragraph was likely twice the effort the Sporting News applied.

Ok, fair enough.  I assumed to put out rankings they would atleast do some research.

The Sporting News called Pat Miller and asked if they were good, he said yes and they wrote the article. When Whitewater finishes 4th in the WIAC they won't notice.   :D

I suspect Dave McHugh's job is safe.

I didn't see the actual article.  I saw it on Twitter, if you follow St Norbert Men's basketball...they tweeted out that they were ranked 5th in the preseason by Sporting News.  I don't remember if it was the same tweet or in a set of tweets, they also mentioned that the only other Wisconsin team in the rankings was Whitewater at 3rd.  I tried looking up the actual article with the full Sporting News rankings and was unable to find it.

Sometime this year you will hear the "woe is me"  St Norbert as a refugee story as they need to practice off campus and play off campus due to the reconstruction of the Schuldes Center into the Mulva Center.  Don't buy it.  :o :o

You won't hear anyone from St. Norbert complaining this year. The coaching staff is too busy recruiting and coaching up their guys to worry about things that don't really matter.

This.

The TSN preseason poll gives an SID an excuse to churn out a nice presser to whet the appetites of fans a couple of months early, and that's about all that it's worth. The only preseason poll worth your attention is the one put out by this website.

Lycoming is a pretty rough pick, even for TSN.  Wow.

Hmmm....  Maybe that's why they are so successful year after year under Coach Grzesk? :o

Didn't say you would hear it from Grzesk....plenty of others here who might be shocked to see a loss.  Recall 2015 Christmas tourney loss to Alma. There was wailing and gnashing of teeth as I recall.

I considered taking SNC in the survival pool, but contests at Benedictine and Oshkosh are worrisome.

That's no big surprise. The fan base is the same group who thinks Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy should be fired every time the Packers give up a first down or go three-and-out.

Then again, with long-term high performance comes high expectations. No one in DePere is going to throw a parade down College Avenue for just making the conference tournament these days like they would a half-hour to the south.
