Congrats Chris Jones:  This week's WIAC Player of the Week

Chris Jones (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech), Junior, Guard
Jones averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game and shot 58.6 percent from the floor to help the Warhawks to a pair of home wins over the weekend to open up the 2016-17 season. On Friday in a 90-71 victory over Colorado College, he finished with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists and didn't commit a turnover. One night later, Jones posted a game-high 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go along with five assists and three rebounds in an 85-78 triumph over Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), the No. 20 ranked team in NAIA Division I.

Greek Tragedy

Going into the holiday weekend, the WIAC has a nice 19-6 record in the nonconference. Highlighting the schedule so far is opening day wins over ranked opponents St. Thomas and St. Norbert.

The last game day before the holiday also had the WIAC go 5-1.

#22 Hope (vs River Falls and Stout) has inflicted two of the WIAC's six loses while UWSP has suffered two of the WIAC's six loses (#2 CNU, St. Olaf).

The only game that could've been deemed an upset is #21 Oshkosh (predicted #1 in the WIAC) losing at unranked Wartburg (predicted #2 in the IIAC). Platteville (7th in the WIAC) also lost at (7th in the CCIW) Wheaton.

All in all, a very solid start for the conference, in my opinion.

Two huge games loom for the WIAC with Oshkosh traveling to Benedictine this weekend and the Titans heading to Rock Island to take on Augustana next week. The Pioneers have a huge task going to North Central next week as well.

BW--Chris Jones looks like a sleeper at WW. He's not mentioned in the season preview, but is averaging around 23 a game. Why no mention in the preview?

Your guess is as good as mine Fred.  He's a nice addition for us.

WARHAWKS (3-0): 87
Ohio Northern (1-3): 72

The WARHAWKS opened the game with a 20-4 run over the first eight minutes and with one brief exception held the lead in double digits until a little over two minutes remained when the Polar Bears cut it to nine 38-29 and eventually to a low of six before the half ended with the WARHAWKS up seven 41-34.  Scotty Tyler's 11 points led the way.  Mitchell Pfieffer and Zach Knobloch added 8 points apiece and Chris Jones scored 7.  The WARHAWKS shot 61% in the half including 56% from beyond the arc.  The Polar Bears opened the second half with a 9-0 run taking the lead 43-41 less than three minutes into it.  After a pair of ties the WARHAWKS regained the lead 48-45 a Jones' three pointer and maintained it in single digits until about the eight and half minute mark when Demetrius Woodley hit a three making the score 66-54.  After that the Polar Bears would cut it to nine once and the WARHAWKS would push it to a high of 17 just before the game ended.

Chris Jones: 25 points, 3 assists
Scotty Tyler: 19 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 3 steals
Mitchell Pfeifer: 16 points (4-5 3 pt), 3 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal
Andre Brown: 7 assists, 2 assists
Team; 58% from the floor, 57% from beyond the arc

That's a scary loss. I've seen Luther, and the Norse are not good at all.

RF 72, Viterbo 46. 18 players participated, 13 scored in a margin that was surprising because V. came in 5-2 and had defeated Bethel earlier. Pearson led w/13 pts. No starter played more than 23 minutes. It was the first home game for RF.
