Greek Tragedy

Undefeated Ripon and scoring sensation Ty Sabin (31.2 pts/gm) in Williams Center tonight.  Redhawks enter 6-0 including a win over Loras who's 2-0 vs the WIAC.  Last year we won by 14 points (74-60) and held Sabin to 10 points on 17 shots in their gym.

Umm. Must be a scheduling quirk. Why would Whitewater play anyone who, at least on paper, is even remotely good? Thankfully it's another home game, at least. God forbid they have to get out of their pajamas before the game.  :P  ;D  :)

This scheduling of Ripon is part of the Pat Miller delta plan where he is sitting on the bench or letting the assistants coach.  He no longer talks to the officials in an effort to help them perform their appointed tasks.  Impressive change for Pat, I can't wait to see this in person.  :o

Ripon showing they might be legit. Up 55-47 in Whitewater. Sabin with 24. Scott Tyler and Chris Jones with 19 and 14, respectively. Wish there was a video feed, but then there might be evidence of Miller's sideline antics.  ???  ;D  :)  :o

Shooting clinic in Whitewater as the Warhawks have a 89-86 lead with a little over 4 minutes to play. Ripon's Sabin has 37 points on 13-18 shooting. Not to be outdone, Scott Tyler has 41 on 13-20 shooting, including 8-11 on 3s.

Wish I could've seen it.  No video feed last night.  Pretty disappointing.

Yeah. Disappointed about the lack of video feed too. I thought about making the 2+ hour trip down there, but it's a school night and I'll be up late tonight as I'm heading to Stevens Point for the Edgewood game...on another school night! But, it's double time plus holiday pay tomorrow, so I'll just be tired.

Amazing stats, BW. Especially Knobloch's! Wonder if he's related to an outstanding WW football player of the early 60's.

He's not.  Jim Knobloch was my neighbor for several years.

I've never seen a three point shooter who can set his feet and release as quickly as he does.  At times it's so quick that he doesn't appear to even look at the basket.  No doubt things will get more difficult once we get into the conference season and his numbers could drop off. But he's off to a hell of a start and is going to be a player to deal with.  His game will only get better with experience.  Plus the best part is that he's solid and versatile enough defensively that we can leave him on the floor.  The last time I checked he was second on the team in average minutes with 31+.  We don't have many freshman who get that many minutes.

I see he only logged 9 minutes yesterday...hopefully that's not because of an injury?!

Also, big game from the UWM transfer. 45 points, wow!!

He's not injured.  Foul trouble put him on the bench really early in the first half.  He did play briefly in the second half.  I'm not sure why he didn't play more perhaps it was because of match up issues.    Ripon was doing a good job defending him and both Brown and Jones have a different style offensively which may have been a better option against Ripon's defense.  I don't know but Knobloch never even attempted a shot in the time he played.

Ripon is a nice team.  I don't much about St Norbert but I'd be surprised if Ripon isn't pushing them for the conference  title.  Sabin is good.

Tyler's 45 was a new individual single game scoring record surpassing Gerald Coleman, James Hodges and Eric Burdette's 43.

It's too bad you guys missed it.  Though it had WARHAWKS fans on the edge of their seats it was really exciting to watch.  Unless, of course, you like defense.  Unfortunately without students our broadcasts are limited.

BW--Having a hard time putting the word defense into context when I see the no. of  points scored. Glad to hear Knobloch is not injured.

Ripon (6-1): 96
WARHAWKS (9-0): 109

Behind Scotty Tyler's 45 point outburst and 31-35 from the free throw line the WARHAWKS hit the century mark, ran their streak to nine games, and beat a tough Ripon College team 109-96.  Tyler's 45 points broke the program's individual single game scoring record which had stood since 1996.

It was the RedHawks who opened the scoring and took an early lead.  The WARHAWKS stayed within six points and forged four ties but each time the RedHawks would quickly regain the lead and they built it to eight 55-47 at the half.  The RedHawks shot a ridiculous 75% (21-28) from the floor in the half including 3-6 three pointers and 10-10 from the charity stripe.  Sabin was nearly unstoppable and led all scorers with 24.  The WARHAWKS didn't shoot badly (48.5%), made 7 three pointers and went 8-10 from the line to stay in the game.  Tyler's 19 points led the way and Chris Jones added 14.  Despite as fast paced as it was each team had only committed 5 turnovers.  The second half played out similarly with the RedHawks eventually getting the lead to ten points 69-59 six and half minutes in.  After that the WARHAWKS would pull to within a single point but couldn't seem to get over the hump until Brown drained a three pointer with just over seven minutes remaining and gave the WARHAWKS their first lead of the game 82-80.  In the time that remained the WARHAWKS went 4 for 6 from the floor and 18-20 at the line to pull away.  The WARHAWKS shot 57% from the floor, 7-10 from beyond the arc and 23-25 from the free throw line while the RedHawks cooled off to 39-5%, hit only 3 of 15 three point attempts and went 8-14 from the line.

Tyler: 45 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, block, steal
Jones: 27 points, 5 assists
Brown: 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists
Team:  14-26 3 points, 31-35 FT

The number of uncalled traveling violations may have set a record.  It wasn't quite an NBA game but it was getting there.  Some were subtle but some were way too obvious to have gone uncalled.

Fred:
We're a pretty good offensive team.  Actually, IMO, this could be one of the best inside/outside teams we've ever fielded.  But our defense continues to be a work in progress.

Two guys on one team who hit 8/11 on threes in consecutive games? Amazing!  BUT-----The conference games have not started yet. I don't think anyone will go unbeaten. Or, at least I hope not!

There is a very good chance whitewater will go unbeaten on the season if they lose it will have to be quick because they won't lose once they get their stud transfer. More than likely going to be best d3 team of all time no need for d when you have 5 guys who can average 20 on any given night.
