The score of the Whitewater vs. Lawrence game at JustaGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells in 56-44 with 16:10 left in the second half.  ShineTime's UW-W best team in D-3 history predictions suggest that U-Dub Dub is ahead (they can't be touched), the $8 paywall came up before I could discern who was actually leading.  Coach DePagter's body language was positive; the announcers were apparently deaf mutes and had no arms to turn the camera during the period I was able to watch and strain my ears to listen.  I couldn't hear Pat Miller providing positive feedback to the officials either, the camera didn't focus on his cool persona.

Maybe one of you super successful UW-W guys is paying and would clarify.  ;)

If you had bothered to read the information before opening the live feed you would have noticed that it said there would be no audio and the camera was in a fixed position.  But maybe reading comprehension isn't your thing.  Lawrence hung tough for about 25 minutes then it was over.

The WIAC goes 6-0 on Thursday led by impressive wins from Stevens Point over North Central (IL) and Stout over Central (IA).

Nice wins both ways.  FWIW I never suggested a Pointer win should warrant an *.  NCC is a good program even without Rardion.

I have been reading the undefeated stuff and I think it will be Stout who will go undefeated in the conference :D

Take that WHITEWATER!    ;)

WARHAWKS (10-0): 97
Lawrence (2-5): 71

Scotty Tyler picked up where he left off scoring 30 points and leading the WARHAWKS to a 97-71 win over Lawrence.  The Vikings playing the first game in eight days kept the game close in the first half.  Tyler opened the scoring with an inside basket but the Vikings answered with the first of five ties in the half.  Though the WARHAWKS never trailed the lead was never more than five points until the last two minutes of the half when it reached seven 41-34 on a Chris Jones layup.  Lawrence cut it to three but Andre Brown sank a long three pointer to close out the half and making the score 44-38.  Tyler's 19 points led while Jones added 12 points and Brown chipped in with 9 and 5 rebounds.  The WARHAWKS shot 54.5% (6 of 11) from beyond the arc.  Lawrence got a boost from the bench outscoring the WARHAWKS bench 22-9.  Both teams took care of the ball combining for just 9 turnovers.  Zach Knobloch's three pointer a minute and half into the second stanza created the WARHAWKS first double digit lead 52-42.  Lawrence would get back to within nine a minute later but the WARHAWKS lead went into the twenties and low thirties for the last eleven and half minutes of the game.

Tyler: 30 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks
Jones: 17 points, 5 assists
Brown: 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
Team: 53.7%/52.2% field/3 pt

stoutguy--Finally--you  posted! Good to see you back. Anybody heard from Blaze Orange? Last post I saw from him must have been ten yrs. ago, or more.

I think Stout is a lot better than you led me to believe when we talked at Menomonie about how you and Eddie were saying  how tough RF is. No team, except THE ONE WHICH SHALL REMAIN UNBEATEN, will have a cakewalk at Stout.

I STILL CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET A SMILEY TO APPEAR ON MY POST!

Fred, the easiest way is to when you're going to post use the reply button on the bottom of the page rather than using Quick Reply.  Right click on that and you'll open a page that allows you to post and access to them.   Then you just have to right click on them to add them to your post.  You can get to the same screen if you're using Quick Reply but you have to preview your post to open it.

:) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8-) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'(

Now I'm showing off.

Point tops #13 #20 North Central 65-63

http://athletics.uwsp.edu/boxscore.aspx?path=mbball&id=6182

I am working on contacting Pat Coleman and various necessary websites to officially add an asterisk to their win tonight because, you know, Raridon didn't play, so it's really not a real win. This *win will also be taken into account if Point is in contention for a Pool C bid.

On an unrelated note, if the boxscore is correct, I'm very impressed with 2200 fans showing up, sans students, for a weekday game.

Don't forget, this game was played as a part of the Sentry Classic. Lots of high school teams and fans in town too, which helps attendance. This was the first time since '08-09 that UWSP played as a part of (or in conjunction with?) the hometown high school tournament.

Interestingly, it was mentioned in the radio broadcast that the were quite a few people leaving, as SPASH was playing after UWSP.

Methinks that these fans might not have left in previous years where SPASH on the docket.

It seems like Point always draws well.  At least compared to the rest of us.  I'd love to see 2200 people show up for a game here.  Particularly at this time of year.

Oh I read it. I chose not to comply.  :(

My business sense says $8 for the less than a half of basketball, especially of this quality, is not reasonable. I realize this is a neutral site, so they can charge as they please; I hope they made a killing.   ;)

Any D3 team that charges that much, even for a live game, deserves to have empty seats as well.  :o

Not having to listen to Pat Miller act like a hyena for 40 minutes is a plus for the aforementioned paywall incident.  ;D  Glad Lawrence met your expectations for so long, considering UW-W is the best D-3 team in history.  :o :o

I am now focusing on how a team in the WIAC will go undefeated in conference play. Even with my low reading comprehension, I'd suggest that is unlikely, except in Candyland.  ;)

Amen to that. I think SP has but the sweet spot of city size (Goldilocks... Not too big, not too small), success/tradition, isolation relative to other draws, plus community involvement.

Compared to other WIAC schools, they're either too small, too big, too close to other draws (like MKE or MSP) haven't had the continued success, etc.  Perhaps..?

I've thought that each of the WIAC schools have a prime opportunity to create a student organization like the Dew Crew at Hope or the Orange Crush at Illinois that are more than just a student section... They're volunteer organizations that do a lot of good in the community, raise money for scholarships, etc.

These create more of a community feel for the larger public schools compared to others in DIII that more naturally have community due to their a size.

Maybe it wouldn't work... But if it did, then to could be an extra several hundred students at each game, plus the full positive force of such an organization in the community.

Greek Tragedy

John,

So SPASH was playing after the Point game? A 9:00 pm (or later) tip-off for a high school game?  SPASH is the 2-time defending state champs and currently #2 in the state.  I understand some college fans just don't watch high school, but then again, a 9 pm tip-off may get some to leave.

SPASH did play (and win) over Hortonville at the late starting time of about 9:10PM. I'd guess the attendance would have been about 1400 at the start of the UWSP-NCC game and the quoted 2200 by the second half start. Probably 500 people left by the HS start.

Take that Whitewater!!  I love that, BW.  Fred, I have made it a point not to pay too much attention to how Stout has played (only saw the one game) because I will be gone for most of the winter but you are correct, they appear to be much better.  I have talked to Ed several times and he really likes how they have responded so far.  But we will see once the conference starts.  I still have trouble trying to find anyone in the conference who we will be favored against.  I hope I am wrong!   :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

And as long as I am reading away, here, I wouldn't mind some more BW VS AppletonRocks banter.    I sense some animosity.  I love that stuff.  You guys know that!

I didn't realize that SPASH was doing as well again this year as the past couple or that they were that highly ranked. I guess I assumed that they had taken a step backwards.
