After leading by 26 with about 8 minutes left, UWRF beats SP 67-51. Herink had 17, Witt, Seifert had 10. Bublitz had 11, the only one in double figures for Point. RF shot 52%, SP 32%

The Point announcers were flummoxed by how strong River Falls was.  As was I last week in Oshkosh.  I suspect ShineTime made a typo earlier this year and meant the Falcons would be undefeated.

Quick WW question/observations:

1) Chris Jones scored 20 in the first half, 5 in the second on comparable minutes--similar to the Oshkosh game.  Does the old man get tired late in games?  He's been to a lot of schools over the past few years, makes some sense,

2) Jones is offensively efficent, close but second for UWW to Cole Van Schyndel in points per minute at 71% today (25/35), with CVS at 80% (8/10). Only Brett Wittchow of Oshkosh at 93% (26/28) was more efficient in the WIAC tonight.

Impressive....but it is the SLIAC. Was he battling the tight D of Fontbonne or Principia?    ;D ;D

Amalgamation Of Few Home Growns, Mostly D1 Transfers and Multiple JUCO Kids (16-3, 5-3): 67
LaCrosse (10-9, 2-6): 62

The Eagles opened with a 10-0 run over the first four minutes of play before the WARHAWKS responded with a 12-2 run of their own and after seven and half minutes the game was tied 12-12.  Over the next eight minutes the two teams tied three times and lead changed hands twice until, with the game tied 27-27, the WARHAWKS took a lead on Mitch Pfeifer's three pointer and built it to a first half high of seven 42-35 when the buzzer sounded.  Shooting 55.6% from the floor including 55.6% from beyond the arc the WARHAWKS were led by Chris Jones' 20 points.  Though turnovers were nearly identical (3 to 5) the WARHAWKS held a 12-4 scoring advantage off of them and outscored the Eagles from the bench 9-0.  The WARHAWKS continued to hold the lead, though it generally remained within two possessions, for the first eight and half minutes of the second half when the Eagles clawed their way back into a tie 50-50.  Though the WARHAWKS regained the lead on a Scotty Tyler free throw the Eagles once again drew to a tie 54-54 with 4:49 to play.  Derek Rongstad's pair of free throws regained the lead but the Eagles also hit on a pair to retie it.  At that point Jones scored on a layup and the Eagles Zach Schradle answered with a dunk knotting the game  for the final time at 58 with three and half minutes to play.  Demetrius Woodley's jumper in the paint gave the WARHAWKS a lead they would hold to the buzzer though the Eagles would still be within three points with less than thirty seconds but missed a three point attempt and turned the ball over before Jones' layup beat the buzzer to end the game.

Jones: 25 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists
Rongstad: 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals
Tyler: 9 points, 4 rebounds
VanSchyndel: 8 points, 2 rebounds

Dave,

This discussion is why I am looking forward to your follow-up to your extremely well done interview with Brad Duckworth.

Thank you. I do appreciate that. I look forward to the follow-ups as well. Already planning what kind of Hoopsville special we will conduct when the report is released.

Are the UWSP announcers not paying attention to the league like the rest of us? Surprised how good River Falls is? Or surprised that Point isn't the stronger team? Didn't last year give anyone any indication of how this season would go? Serious questions... because besides being homers I would be surprised that announcers in the league would be surprised by any team they face in league.

Dave--I watched/listened to the game. I have to say that the future of the two announcers is in some other field than announcing. Just after the half when the score was 35-24, the "color guy" said the Pointers were 9 behind. Then he corrected it to 10 when the score had not changed. Other similar mistakes were made. But I'm glad they were there so that, occasionally, they could give the right score. I've heard similarly talented student announcers, including at RF, who need to do more game prep so they can sound like they know what they're doing.

Always defending announcers of course, but I was thinking that by "strong RF", they were referring to the weight room strength of the team.  That is something that Coach Andrist was commenting on last week after playing them.

And to your point that extra practices don't help, I can point you to plenty of basketball coaches who will laugh at the notion it doesn't help. It is also a tent poll with this division and presidents who believe that the student-athletes should be students first.

Dave, per (my) usual, this comment isn't directed at you... just a general comment

UWSP Men's basketball team GPA for 2014-15 was 3.48.

Caden Untiedt was recognized with the Elite 89 award at the Final Four for having the highest GPA among all of the student-athletes in Salem.

How did they have time to study, what with all of those extra practices?!

I tend to turn the TV (computer) down when the student broadcasters are on and just listen to Scott Krueger on the local radio feed (streamed through the internet).

It isn't usually sync'ed... but it doesn't matter. The quality is top notch, even if it's definitely the "home feed." Scotty's been doing this for a long, long time and though he loves his Stevens Point athletics, he can appreciate a good performance when he sees one and calls a good game.
