hindsight--Though you could hot tell from my post, I meant that, good as Dodge obviously is, Point is a capable team without him. On a partial game view of both WW and Point, I was more impressed with Point. WW did not have to work hard to beat Beloit, an average opponent last night, at best. Lawrence was a more challenging team. But because of the brief look,  the only one I've had, the comparison is not worth much.

OK I get what you are saying now. I agree that Point is a solid team w/o Dodge, but he for sure makes them a bigger threat to the top of the WIAC teams.

Watched WW and Point games last night: it's apparent Pointers do not need Dodge, averaging 22+ per game prior to last  nite when he got 3 in 21 minutes. Mark Nelson is amazingly quick.

Tyler got 5 minutes p.t. last night and was honorable mention all conference and 8th leading scorer last season. Strange. WW doesn't need him, evidently.

I may be missing the sarcasm in this post, but if there was no sarcasm, I could not disagree more with the statement that the Pointers do not need Dodge. Yeah, he scored 3 points last night as the Pointers beat an average Lawerence team, but that doesn't mean he wasn't an effective player in last night's game. While practically being face guarded and not given any good looks, he lead the team in assists and was also second in rebounds. Coming off a 42 point game I am sure he was eager to put up big numbers again, but I thought he managed the game extremely well. He puts a ton of stress on the defense of the opponent. Teams are forced to stay attached to him wherever he goes on the floor because of the variety of ways he beat you. Do the Pointers beat Hope without him? Tough to say for sure, but I doubt it. In order to be successful going forward the Pointers are going to need to make shots because they are so guard oriented. Dodge will be the most likely candidate to stretch defense and create openings for Delmore, Fredrickson, and Nelson to find their shots and get into the lane. Bottomline, he is an integral part of the Pointer offense and the need him out there to beat good teams.

Lawrence was within 5 with about 6 to go; better game than the final score shows.  Agree Dodge was effective.

After trailing by 15 at the half and 21 early in the second half, RF pulls out a 69-65 win at Northwestern. Herink had 24 points, 11 rebounds. Seifert and Witt had 13, 12 points respectively. NW played like a WIAC championship contender for over a half, but a stepped up Falcon D and a corresponding cool down by NW proved to  be a winning combination.

I took my grandson to the RF/Northwestern game because we were close by watching a granddaughter swim and, believe me, you can't be at a swim meet all day. A very entertaining basketball game.  Herink is a monster.  Those stats don't even hint at how dominant  he was including knocking down a 3 pointer that sealed the win.  RF had an amazing turnaround in the 2nd half.

fredfalcon

Thanks for your input, stoutguy. Herink has not been dominant except in one other game this season when he got 26. That's because he has not had much p.t. so far. He has a tendency to foul trouble and has not played high minutes in most previous games even when not in foul trouble. He also sealed the win last nite w/2 free throws at the end.

THE WIAC was a perfect 8-0 in a light schedule last week. The conference improves to 55-13.

UW-Oshkosh looked nasty tonight against a George Fox team that's better than the final score indicated. The Titans have the makings of national title contender. The Bruins had no answer for Oshkosh's size and the Titans' ball movement was very crisp.

I saw the end of regulation and the 2 OTs of their game vs Augustana. They should have won that game in regulation. But based on the boxscores and game stories, they sound and look real good. River Falls has looked shaky, on the other hand.

I saw 3/4 of last nite's game and I agree Oshkosh looked good. And--they start one senior, Noone, and have only one other senior. Plus, their bench is good.

I'm amused that Stevens Point got a vote. Someone must have gotten a free Brewery tour.

One voter just jumping the gun... After Edgewood tonight, Point plays four of the top 13 in the country:

#3 Augie
#13 Wartburg
#1 Whitman
#8 River Falls

If Point beats them all, they'll be ranked.

Maybe even if they go 2-2.

Edgewood is Thursday. But I get your point. Point will feel like Whitewater with this cupcake schedule coming up. Yawn. The question is, when the new poll comes out next year, has there ever been a team that went from 1 vote to Top 5?  ??? ::) :P ;D :D :o

They are for real.  WIAC gauntlet will test them, though.

Yeah. I'm really looking forward to the WIAC race to see how they do against River Falls, Whitewater, Point, etc.
