Whitworth beat Stout 79-71. Stout was shooting 7% from the field and had 11 points with 5 min to go in the first half. They did a much better job of turning Whitworth over in the second half and converting em into points. Whitworth was without their best player but no idea why he didn't play. Wish the Whits could have gotten games against Oshkosh or RF or UWW instead of Point and Stout. Happy New Years to the WIAC folks

Whitewater beats St. Norbert on the road 89-78 after breaking out to a 49-30 halftime lead. I'll let BW do his stellar wrap-up.  UW-W was white hot from 3 in the first half. Probably the most impressive part of the win was the Warhawks' response to the Green Knights' second half push.  SNC opened the second half in a big way pulling to within 55-51, but Whitewater responded and put the game away. Rongstad and Sachs each had 21 for the Hawks.

Tyler is out for the season.

Essentially the WARHAWKS shot lights out in the first half with 10 three pointers and 64% overall.  Rongstad went 6 of 8 from the floor (4-6 3pt) and finished the half with 16 points.  Menke was 5 of 8  (4-7 3pt) adding 14 points.  SNC shot 60% and made 7 threes in the second half getting close but the WARHAWKS went 18 of 20 from the free throw line (21-24 for the game) and the Green Knights first half hole was just too deep.

With the schedule we've played it was nice to get a convincing win against a quality team and on their floor.

Agreed. It was good to get the win.  After playing seven consecutive games away from home, the Hawks open the WIAC season at Oshkosh. Not altogether different than the 2017 football schedule!

Greek Tragedy

Man, pretty hard to keep up on this board.  ??? ::)

UW-Oshkosh   0-0   10-1
UW-Platteville   0-0   10-1
UW-Whitewater   0-0   10-1
UW-River Falls   0-0   9-1
UW-La Crosse   0-0   8-3
UW-Eau Claire   0-0   8-3
UW-Stout           0-0   6-5
UW-SP              0-0   6-5

The WIAC finished their NC schedule with a stellar 67-20. Platteville apparently doesn't want to finish last again. Looks like Point and Stout, based on NC records, will see who finishes last.

Oshkosh had some good wins vs NACC power Benedictine, MWC power St. Norbert and top 4 Augustana. Not sure what happened against Ripon.

Platteville beat preseason Top 25 CMS, but without their pre-season All-American. They also smoked Hope, which will probably win the MIAA again.

Whitewater got through their traditionally tough NC schedule by losing to just Adrian and topping the aforementioned CMS and St. Norbert in DePere.

River Falls lost to their only solid opponent by falling to Baldwin Wallace at the Wheaton IL tourney.

La Crosse had a big win against MIAC favorite St Johns and also topped a very good BVU team. They fell to ranked Wartburg though.

Eau Claire lost some games at some tough opponents in SNC and Wartburg.

Stout lost by just 6 to Whitworth.

Point had good wins against BVU and Hope, but got smoked by Augustana, Wartburg and Whitman, and another "L" to SNC.

On Wednesday

La Crosse at Eau Claire
Platteville at Stout
Stevens Point at #8 River Falls
#11 Whitewater at #4 Oshkosh

New poll comes out later today, so I'm guessing Oshkosh won't be #4.

Wittchow did not play vs Ripon.  Big deal when he is not in the mix. Explains a lot.  Anyone know if he is injured and severity?

Could be an interesting night as wiac play opens.

I think RF will take care of Point they are just better at this point.  Obviously if Point shoots well they can win but Henrick is a beast.

Platteville goes on the road to stout and should win but this is by no means a lock.  Is Platteville a contender or pretender.

Lax @ uwec could be a dandy as well.  I think you give ec the benefit as they are at home but could go either way.

The game of the night has to be whitewater at Oshkosh.  Oshkosh has looked very good except for the stumble against Ripon.  Was that a chink in the armour or just a blip.  Is whitewater for real.  This game could set the tone for both teams for wiac play.

For the first time Oshkosh looks vulnerable. Box score said Titans shot 62%, Boots had his best game so far w/25--and they still lost to a then 4-4 team which shot in high 40% range. Shocking! But--comparative scores are practically useless in the long run.

Hear, hear. He has spent far too long out there with his milking pail, or sucking down cans of Blatz, or whatever it is he's been doing over the past few years.

Looks like 4 road wins for night 1 of the WIAC.....wow!

Greek Tragedy

Whitewater routes Oshkosh.
La Crosse squeaks by Eau Claire.
Platteville tops Stout

Point crushes River Falls.

Didn't see that coming.

RF looked invincible--for the first 8 minutes when they led 15-2. From then on it was all Point as they took a 13  point half time lead and stretched it into a 73-48 win. Mark Nelson led all scorers with 18 including 4/4 three pointers.Dodge had 12 points in 12 minutes. Pointers shot 51% including 50% on threes. Herink had 13 for RF, Keller and Seifert had 11, 10 respectively for RF.

Wittchow played sparingly tonight. Did not start, looked like he was on a pitch count.  Game was over with Pfeifer in the first 12 minutes dropping contested 3 after 3.  Could not miss, O would score 2 and W scored a 3, over and over. Had to leave the video at half, apparently didn't get better.

hindsight2020

Point did a lot of things really well as they took it to RF tonight. Shot the ball well (which always helps in any game), defended with a purpose, and therefore were able to make RF struggle for most of the game. My main takeaways from the game were how well Tauber and O'Heron played. RF's strength is their inside play, and those two guys were up for the challenge of defending them and rebounding against them. Secondly, Nelson came in and lead the comeback which flipped the game in Point's favor. Lastly, Songolo off the bench really gave them energy defensively. With Point having Stout, LaCrosse, and Eau Claire in their next 3 games, they are in position to have a great start to the WIAC season if they continue to play to their capability. That being said, the WIAC is going to be a battle every single night with any team capable of winning on a given night.
