Our defense was not good and compounded by the fact they shot well.  We let the Pioneers get to the basket too easily and too often.  You have to give them credit though.  Every time we did something that even remotely resembled a rally they put their feet down firmer on our throats.  They outplayed us convincingly.

I'm feeling like we have some good teams in the league but none that are really all that.

BW thanks for the review I was on the road last night and I listened to first part then got the live stats It sounded like P-ville got out to a good start then whenever WW got close they had another spurt to put more distance between the the two. Not having been to many games this year one could wonder how a team can go from last and a 1-13 record in the WIAC to 5-2 and tied for second at the halfway point this year. My guess it would be guard play P-ville lost only Vaassen who was front line and it seems like freshman Ranney and Sheilds are two nice additions. Will the second half be as crazy as the first half.

I agree with that. A handful of "good" teams, but not really any that are "great"....at least not consistently "great"

... which means that, as D-Mac has pointed out on Hoopsville, the WIAC reflects the D3 national scene as a whole.

WIAC-yness.

And one of the reasons I moved WIAC teams down my poll this week. That said, I want to move EVERYONE done my poll.

It is nuts. No one is really great, even Whitman. Just a lot of good and really good teams. Crazy, but also fun!

I forgot to mention that we couldn't have thrown the ball in the Atlantic Ocean in the first half.  7 of 28....good grief.

Bangor (WI) 6'1" G, Luke Reader, has committed to play at UWEC.  Very good get for Siverling and the Blugold program.

With the last few posts on this page talking about the WIAC having a bunch of good teams without any great teams, which I agree with...It got me thinking about the conference next year.  In my eyes, it's going to be loaded.  I think WW, Oshkosh and Point are all top 10 teams next year.  Platteville could be right on the cusp as well.

Whitewater will return 7 of their top 8 and I assume they will bring back Scotty Tyler from injury.

Oshkosh will lose 1 starter in Noone but will return 8 of their top 9.

Platteville loses Ostreich and Showalter but can plug Ranney and Shields into the starting lineup without missing a beat.

Point gets one of the best players in the conference back in Bublitz to replace Delmore...and returns 8 of their top 9.  Semling mentioned wanting to bring in some transfers along with a few freshman this year to help negate the loss of a huge senior class next season, those transfers could very well help this core returning group as well.

That's a ton of returning firepower.

I wouldn't make that assumption.  None the less we'll return a lot of talent.

How do transfers occur—can a D3 coach talk to a D2 or D1 player and inquire as to their interest in playing on a D3 team?  Can they use alums or other envoys?  And in the case of Point, would a player be willing to join a program that may be censured soon?

Could Greg Gard call his brother and ask if Carter Voelker wanted to fill in for Trice for a year?

So many questions. ???

I apologize if this has been answered previously. Last season WW had a very good player, Chris Jones.
At the beginning of this season, I remember that he was prominently mentioned in the WW Season Preview. However, he didn't make an appearance in any of the first few games. At that point I believe inquires were made as to the reason for his absence, but the only explanation emanating from said inquires was that the situation was "complicated," and that he was likely to return fairly soon. However, he has not ever played this season and no longer appears on the roster. This seems like a very big loss for WW as Jones was a pre-season All-American.
Does anyone know exactly what happened as far as Jones' failure to appear this season?

Jones left school the first week of the season.  Scotty Tyler, another transfer last year, left school at the semester break.

This makes perfect sense.
Last year, Whitewater was Jones' fourth school (although he didn't play at the first school) in four years since graduating from high school. This pattern of "shopping" schools appears to rather strongly suggest that he approached the academic/athletic experience with a primary focus on the athletic side, looking for schools where basketball was optimum with academics playing a secondary role. Seemingly, moreso the approach of a athlete-student rather than in keeping with the D3 student-athlete philosophy.
It would be interesting to see if he left UWW for the same reason(s) he left his 3 previous schools, and whether or not his basketball sojourn eventually found him landing at yet another institution.

The good news is that a couple of YMCA teams probably got demonstratively better!
