Point 66, RF 64. Witt and Herink had 13 each. Spray led Point w/13. Three others had 11 each. Point may have played their worst conference game. RF was streaky good and bad, but at least did not shoot 32% as was the case vs.  Point in RF.

I didn't see the game. Can you explain this, please? Just looking at the boxscore, Point shot 48.8% including 11-22 from 3. Their FT was bad at 15-24 (62.5%), 11 TOs, which isn't horrible. Reading the game report, both teams were streaky...or did you mean RIVER FALLS played their worst conference game?

I have not been to a lot of games this year, but I was there last night. Point built an 11 point lead in the first ten minutes. After that, Point missed 5 of 6 free throws, gave up a number of second chance buckets, and made only 2 field goals over a 7 minute stretch.

Point did not lead in the second half until there was just over a minute left.  It was a struggle.  I am guessing that if what Falcon was referring to.

fredfalcon

Greek, your point about stats is valid, but rebound stats show Point got out hustled badly, at least for a streak late in the second half. The announcers kept saying RF had  more "hops" than Point, and they were right. Point's flow was never good beyond the first 10-12 minutes when they built their lead. And when given opportunities after late Falcon turnovers, they would turn it over themselves. The last 5 minutes were  ugly. I streamed it, except for the last 45 seconds when it buffered all the way thru the end. My comment about worst conference game was related to the game at RF when Point looked like world beaters, and I have only seen Point play for short stretches on the internet, so I may be off the mark about "worst conference game."

Good to hear from you, SgtPaul. Thanks for the input from both of you. I was just curious on your thoughts since just looking at the boxscore didn't show "worst conference game". The boxscore obviously doesn't show everything and can also be misleading and I did notice they got outrebounded pretty bad. I've been to one game this year. And if their worst conference game ends in a win, I'm ok with that!

Oh the wonders of streaming video! Got to watch the game online and the first ten minutes Point looked like they were going to win going away, +5 in rebounds, shooting over 60% and frustrating the Falcons on the defensive end. River Falls then flipped the script and pounded the boards and got numerous second and third chances. After taking a 23-12 lead with 8-1/2 minutes gone, Point missed free throws, field goals, rebounds, and had too many turnovers. During the next 18 minutes Falls outscored Point 39-21 and looked like they were going to leave Quandt with a win and make their conference season relevant again. The last 13 minutes of the game saw the Pointers scrap back and the Falcons basically fall apart. After taking a 51-44 lead with 13-1/2 minutes to play, River Falls proceeded to commit 8 fouls, turn the ball over 9 times and shoot 1-7 from behind the arc. Brandon Spray scored 8 of his game high 13 points in that time with two big treys. MJ Delmore also stroked 2 triples during the comeback.

Spray with a collegiate high 13 led the Pointers, while O'Heron, Delmore and Fredrickson added 11 each. Herink and Witt combined for 26 points and 13 rebounds, but also 9 turnovers for the Falcons, who shot just 16% from beyond the arc, while their 11 offensive rebounds led to a 36-12 advantage in the paint. Falls shot 22-29 (76%) inside the arc!!

The Pointers have their next big game on Wednesday when they travel to Plattevile, the 10th different team they have played on the year that has received votes in the D3 Hoops top 25 rankings.

Well reported, F2. Two of the most serious RF mistakes happened with less than a minute left:  Herink was called for an offensive foul and Buckley double dribbled.

But as I am watching the Badgers vs. Maryland, it occurs to me that the perimeter pressure by both teams is far less than that in the Point/RF game. The division 3 game was a lot harder fought than the Big Ten game going on right now, and it was especially intense in the last minutes of the Point/RF game. Division three basketball is a good, competitive brand.

Way too early conference POY predictions

Dodge - UWSP
Duax - Platteville
Boots - Oshkosh

Can any other team justify someone given current conference standings?

I would say based on conference play, if UWSP has any candidate, it has to be O'Heron. He would get my vote at least. Don't think that UWSP has the conference record they have now without him.

Great call

Any info on why Showalter did not play vs. Lacrosse over the weekend?

If Point holds on and wins the conference, and UWSP gets the POY nod...I don't see Dodge getting it.  He basically splits time with Mark Nelson.  As important as Dodge is, and he's very important and stretches the defense out with his shooting....I'm giving the most valuable to O'Heron for Point.  I would give the nod to Delmore over Dodge as well.

I don't think a Point player will get it considering how balanced they have been.  I would give it to Duax considering the turnaround for Platteville.  Still 4 games to go and a lot can happen though.

Point at Platteville on Wednesday is a huge matchup, Point can basically guarantee a share of the title with a win.  They would have a 2 game lead on Platteville with a season sweep.  They also have the 2 bottom dwellers along with Oshkosh left to play after the Platteville game.

In the past 16 years, 11 POYs have come from conference champs.  Interestingly, during this stretch, there are three co-POY's, and all of the recipients were from non-conference champs.

So, if we exclude the co-POYs, 11/13 recipients have come from conference champs, including the last four.

Also, 3/3 of the years where there were two or more champs, the POY came from one of those champs.

New poll is out.

Platteville jumps from #20 to #9 and from 198 pts to 376 pts.

Stevens Point goes from #25 to #18 and gains 181 pts.

Whitewater drops from #12 to #19 while going from 309 pts to 196.

Oshkosh falls from #18 to #21 and loses 97 pts.

River Falls drops out of the top 25 from #24 to #32 with 14 pts from 40 last week.

Stevens Point (15-6, 9-1)
at Platteville, vs Stout, vs Oshkosh at Eau Claire

Platteville (18-3, 8-2)
vs Stevens Point, at Eau Claire, vs Whitewater, vs River Falls

Whitewater (16-5, 6-4)
vs Oshkosh, at River Falls, at Platteville, vs La Crosse

Oshkosh (16-5, 6-4)
at Whitewater, vs La Crosse, at Stevens Point, at Stout

River Falls (14-6, 5-5)
at Stout, vs Whitewater, vs Eau Claire, at Platteville

Regional rankings come out this week and Platteville could very well be #2 in the Central region.

Wash U will likely be #1. Augustana lost for the 2nd time in 3 games. IWU lost to Augustana this week. Both of those guys will be ahead of Point. Oshkosh may be ahead of Point based on their H2H, but Point has a better SOS and it's only a one game difference in the loss column. Of course, Whitewater has a win over Oshkosh, but Whitewater's SOS is a lot lower than Oshkosh's...besides, if you put Whitewater ahead of Oshkosh based on their win over the Titans, Point will definitely be ahead of Whitewater based on their sweep. It's doubtful we'll see any NACC or MWC teams ahead of the CCIW and WIAC juggernaut.
