WaHooWa--he's listed on the Falcon roster now. Depending upon whether/how much he's practiced, I'm assuming he could play tonight vs. St. Scholastica.

After everyone went to bed, I was able to watch the Pointers hammer the host Kingsmen 76-57. They jumped out to a 12-0 lead and also 24-5 advantage. It was smooth sailing from there.

I'll have to say that after watching the game, we as Pointer fans, and to some degree all of the WIAC teams, are spoiled with the support the teams get. Here you have a weekend holiday tournament with two ranked teams and another solid, previously ranked team, and there's hardly anyone there. I couldn't find an attendance figure for the Cal Lutheran game, but the IWU v Whitman game had 258. I'm guessing the camera view showed the visiting section because it looked like there was about 50 people on that side. I'll assume there was more than the 258 for the early game with the host's actually playing the 2nd game. I understand that Cal Lutheran isn't very good this season so far, but with teams like Point, Whitman and IWU coming in, that would definitely attract a crowd to Quandt. Or maybe there's just more to do in Thousand Oaks than Stevens Point.

Point takes on IWU tonight. We'll see how much gas IWU has left after last night's track meet with Whitman. Should be a great game played in front of about 100 fans.

I caught the Platteville/John Hopkins game in Vegas.  Platteville won by 4-5 in OT.  They got a tad lucky when a 98.6% free throw shooter missed the middle of three free throws with .01 second remaining in regulation to leave the game tied.

WARHAWKS: 79
Sul Ross State: 59

This another of those games that juding by the final score you'd think it was a cake walk but in reality 32 minutes of the 40 were played much closer.  The WARHAWKS opened the scoring and had an early four point lead.  But the Lobos rallied and led by as many as nine until just under two and half minutes remained and Dalton Menke hit a three pointer to grab the lead back for the WARHAWKS 30-28.  That lead grew to six before the Lobos hit a three pointer to end the half 36-33.  The Lobos scored the first eight points of the second half to go up 41-33 and with one exception maintained a one or two possession lead for the first six minutes or so.  At that point the WARHAWKS took control.  David Sachs hit a jumper in the lane, Dalton hit back to back three pointers, Andre Brown hit a pair of free throws and Derek Rongstad added a layup pushing the lead to ten 61-51 with just under nine minutes to play.  The Lobos would get no closer than nine after that. The WARHAWKS out rebounded the Lobos 45-35 and dominated scoring in the paint 44-22.

Malik Clements: 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals
Menke: double/double: 15 points/11 rebounds
Sachs: 12 points, 5 assists
Rongstad: 11 points, 2 assists, 2 steals

Not to mention the errant whistle that was blown.

I do think that foul was a weak call by the officials though.

Or  the meaningless horn that was blown.

I agree regarding the weakness of the call.  The other thing I noticed during the game was that one official called four fouls on picks.  The other two never called it.  Nothing changed in the game it seemed like it was just a matter of who you did it in front of.  In front of one you got nailed.  In front of the other two it was play on.

RF wins St. Norbert tournament w/ 78-50 trouncing of St. N. Heidecker, Jackson get all tournament honors, Jackson gets MVP. Jack Stensgard, transfer from South Dakota, makes valuable contributions both games (81-78 over St. Scholastica last nite), w/ 5 points, 3 assists, 2 steals in 18 minutes last night and 7 points in fewer minutes tonite. With his addition, it is apparent that RF has the deepest bench, especially in guards, of any team I've seen, and probably in the WIAC.

The Green Knights aren't what they used to be, but that outcome is definitely surprising to me. But what do I know, some poster will come in and tell me that Massey had the Falcons favored anyway!

Huge win for Point tonight against a good IWU team out in California. I feel bad for the hosts. The Dawgs smoked Cal Lutheran last night and Whitman was up about 45-18 at intermission tonight. Ouch!

Whitewater night week.

I don't feel sorry for Cal Lutheran at all. Nobody forced the CLU coach to send out those contracts. You let the big dogs on your porch, you can't complain about getting bitten.

Whitman was up 50 when they called the dogs off.  It would've been very ugly.

Absolutely no way I would take River Falls' guards over Stevens Point, Whitewater or Oshkosh's.

WARHAWKS: 96
Concordia - Texas: 81

Concordia jumped out to the early lead maintaining a one possession lead for four minutes when Dalton Menke stroked a three pointer putting the WARHAWKS up by a pair, 7-5, and a lead they would never surrender.  Menke's basket ignited a 13-1 run which included three more three pointers from Menke and eventually pushed the lead to a high of fifteen, 45-30, at the three minute mark before the half ended 49-39.  Menke went 5-5 from beyond the arc.  The WARHAWKS outscored C-T 20-6 in the paint and 23-8 off the bench.  The second half started similarly to Friday's game.  C-T scored the first five points cutting the lead to five and after three and half minutes had cut it to four twice but each time the WARHAWKS answered with three point baskets by Mitch Pfieffer and would later build the lead the eleven, 66-55, on a third three pointer from Pfeiffer.  C-T would rally back to five points a couple more times the last 70-65 at eight and half minutes.  Malik Clements pushed the lead back to eight with a three pointer.  It reached eleven and C-T would get no closer than nine after that.  The lead reached a high of sixteen, 84-68, with four and half minutes.  Pfeiffer hit 5 consecutive threes in the half.

Melvin Brown: 21 points, 14 rebounds, assist, 3 blocks
Menke: 20 points (6-8 three points)
Pfeiffer: 17 points (5-6 three points)
Clements: 14 points
Sachs: 12 points (10-10 FTs), 8 assists

The league finishes the nonconference portion of their schedules with a won/loss record of 63-24, a winning percentage of .833.  None of the league's teams had records of .500 or worse.  It's going to be an interesting season.  Were definitely better than last year.  Oshkosh and Point are both stacked.   EauClaire, LaCrosse, Platteville and River Falls are all playing well and Stout is at 6-5.

Let the race begin.

tomt4515--I said Falcons have deepest BENCH AT GUARD POSITION, not that they had better guards than Point, WW, or Osh.
