UWEC with a nice win at home tonight against Whitewater.  Senior guard Cole Rabedeaux led the way. Believe he is 2nd in the WIAC in scoring. Watched their game against St. Olaf and he is a very solid player.

Oshkosh shows La Crosse who's still King in the WIAC 79-63

Platteville?

Not last year.
We will know more this Wednesday
Platteville at Oshkosh
Agree - huge game Wednesday.

If Platteville wins, I think I'd consider the Pioneers the WIAC favorite.  It certainly wouldn't be by a huge margin at all, but a big road win like that, combined with their start, would be enough for me to pin the early "favorite" tab on them.  I have watched all the WIAC teams and I feel like UWP is the strongest overall...by a thin margin.

On the flip side, Oshkosh needs to hold serve at home Wednesday...like they did yesterday.  As deep and balanced as the WIAC is, Oshkosh (like everyone else) has to protect home court.

For now, Oshkosh is the reigning champs.  That was a big win for the Titans yesterday.  A bit of a statement win for UWO after a shaky non-conference schedule.

With conference play starting it should be noted that the conference tournament schedule has changed from previous years.  From the tournament handbook and the WIAC site, all tournament games (men and women) will be played Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. No more alternating Tu/Th/Sa, W/F/Su. Doubleheaders will be played at 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday at a school if both teams are to host that round. The 6pm and 8pm games will alternated from year to year between men and women as to who will at 6 and 8. It's not clear what order is being started in 2020. If championship games are both be played at the same school, the games will be at 3pm and 7pm on Saturday, not part of a doubleheader.

No changes to six team format itself, just a schedule change.

The tournament games in 2020 will be played February 25, 27, and 29.

If UW Oshkosh was to host a championship game this year, it would likely be played at Albee Hall with the Titans hosting the WIAC indoor track and field championship in Kolf. The men's 4x4 is scheduled to start at 5:15pm. The UW Oshkosh men hosted a WIAC Friday semifinal there in 2016.

This is likely a welcomed change for the committee's (and Hoopsville) to have another games moved off Sunday.  The Sunday February 24 2019 women's final is likely the last Sunday final the WIAC will have. That was also the day of the large blizzard in Wisconsin. This also gives room for the game to moved to Sunday if there disruptive Wisconsin winter weather.

Hopefully more conferences continue to follow to not play tournament games on Sunday afternoon.

If for some reason the Stevens Point men's and women's teams play at home, I'm hoping they stagger their games too even though they play in different gyms.

Wednesday's games

Stout (4-9, 0-1) at Eau Claire (12-2, 1-0) Eau Claire by double digits.

River Falls (7-5, 0-1) at La Crosse (10-1, 0-1) The Eagles bounce back with a single digit win.

Whitewater (5-7, 0-1) at Stevens Point (9-3, 1-0) Big rival game despite Whitewater's struggles. Point in a close one.

Platteville (11-1, 1-0) at Oshkosh (7-5, 1-0) Game of the week. Can Oshkosh protect home court. I think they can, barely.

Looking forward to what hopefully is a great game at Kolf tonight. #9 UW-Platteville at RV UW Oshkosh, 7pm.

Shields and Voelker lead the way for the Pioneers while Fravert and Flynn lead the way for the Titans.

Platteville Oshkosh was a tail of two halves. Oshkosh could do everything they wanted in the first half. Fravert was hitting threes Platteville could do nothing inside because Flynn was a man among boys. At one time Voelker, Sheilds and Stovall all were on the bench with foul trouble. Oshkosh was getting uncontested lay ups and they went into the half with a 43-33 lead. I don't know what Gard said at halftime but Platteville quickly erased the deficit and played tight D holding Oshkosh to 27 points and coming out with a 74-70 win. Good road win for Platteville now they will be at home for EC on Saturday and SP on next Wednesday.

Voelker was able to stay out of foul trouble in the second half and really took over the game for Platteville. He was able to create and make clutch shots in the second.  An even middle second half foul and he would've had to sit with 4 for a few minutes. Gunnink hitting some corner threes was also huge. Shields was really not able to stay on the court long enough to make a big impact and fouled out with just over two minutes to go.

I too, am not sure what changed defensively for Platteville, but something surely in the second half. Oshkosh had pretty drastic first to second half FG% splits.

The best news for fans, may not coaches, the rematch comes yet this month at Bo Ryan Court, less than three weeks from now, to start round two Jan. 29 and before the all WIAC bye Feb. 1.

Jeff Lake gets his first WIAC win for Stout as the Blue Devils upset the Blugolds 80-79. It seemed like almost every time down the floor down the stretch of the game, we were shooting the bonus.  Eau Claire was down 5 late, hit a big three, got a steal, got fouled, Voigt, made the first, missed the second and UWEC got the jump off the rebound on the arrow, but were unable go get a shot away in the final 1.3 seconds on a good defensive effort by Stout on that play.

These two games for me were played at two completely different levels, but that also doesn't mean Stout or Eau Claire couldn't beat Platteville or Oshkosh. Any team, any where, on any given night in this league.

It's still early, but kind of feels like a top 4 of Platteville, Point, Oshkosh, and La Crosse and bottom 4 of Eau Claire, Stout, Whitewater and River Falls.

We get Point at Platteville in that top tier Saturday and a rematch of last years WIAC final.

WIACer

Took some time to watch WIAC last night.

Lax vs UWRF. Good game. Lax takes early lead, but Falcons won't go away. Take a lead in second half, but can't hold on. Difference, to's and ft's. Hard to win those big games.

Stout vs EC  Caught 2nd half. Hard to watch. Not a lot of flow. A game with a lot of fouls. Stout hangs on at the end. Really, hangs on. Stout up 5 80-75 :18 sec.  EC a 3, TO by Stout inbounding and a foul. EC goes 1/1 at ft 80-79. 3 sec EC offensive rebound missed shot, 1 sec under basket EC. Can't get a shot off.

Crazy WIAC. We will beat each other up

I am obviously wrong here, it will be Point at La Crosse Saturday.  Not sure how to edit posts yet on the board.

That's a piece of functionality you'll receive after a few more posts, I believe. We don't let the newest of newcomers edit posts because ... well, reasons. :)
