They are very, very, very much on the bubble.  Going to be a big ask, but not impossible.

It would have to be 4 WIAC teams in for that to happen right? Granted they did beat Platteville in the WIAC tourney and have a solid overall record,  but swept by LaCrosse and a loss to Stout have to be big negatives.

Just like we all predicted/expected in October... Oshkosh is safely in on the eve of Selection Monday!  ;D :D ;)

Going off one of 95's comments, all teams are going to have holes the to fill next year. By my early count Platteville and Whitewater are going to see 4/1 in the season preview in the Starters Returning/Lost category. And the way I see it, Stout is the only 5/0.

Here's my early look at starters returning/lost by this years order of finish and the players coming back.

Platteville 4/1: Tuma, Stovall, Gunnink, Shields
Oshkosh 3/2: Borchert, Peterson, Muench
La Crosse 2/3: E. Anderson, Cook
Eau Claire 3/2: Page, Kuepers, Brooks
Stevens Point 2/3: Nelson, Mootz
River Falls 3/2: Werdin, Stensgard, Hanson
Whitewater 4/1: Hunt, Jensen, Gates, Ards
Stout 5/0: Alexander, Ciriacks, Geiger, Mericle, McCray

I do feel pretty good about this list, outside of maybe River Falls and Whitewater who were still changing starting lineups down the stretch. Without having transfers, freshman, and players leaving in the mix, I think the top 4 who received home games are still favorites to receive home games next year at this point.

Eau Claire and La Crosse will have a sleepless night tonight. Both are on the Pool C fringes, although the "experts" here generally think both are in. The real question is if Eau Claire gets ranked in the last regional rankings and where they'll be with La Crosse, assuming they'll still be ranked.

Honestly, I really felt Oshkosh was getting stronger as the season progressed. Two close losses to Platteville and a two-point loss to Eau Claire, and we know EC is pretty good, making it to the Championship game and losing by just 6. So, it actually doesn't surprise me they're where they are.

Not sure of your criteria to name someone a starter but Kale Bailey started 19 of the 21 games in which he appeared and Jack Brahm started 18 of 25 and Brian Conaghan started 14 of 18.  We had several lineup changes this year.  A lot of young players got a lot of floor time.

On Hoopsville last night we shared that we believe the final Central region ranking is:
1. Platteville*
2. Elmhurst
3. North Central*
4. Benedictine*
5. St. Norbert*
6. Oshkosh
7. Wash U*
8 Eau Claire*
---
9. IWU*
10. La Crosse*
11. Augustana*

* = Pool C candidate

I was shocked to hear this order yesterday because, as we encountered on the Hoopsville show last night, Benedictine ends up sitting on the board for several rounds with their very blah resume.  In my projection, where I had the Central ordered differently (see Pool C board), I had Wash U selected in round 9...on the Hoopsville show using the ranking above Wash U did not hit the board until round 19 (after we selected St. Norbert in round 18).

This order would mean Eau Claire is at the very end of the bubble at best (they hit the board for us last night in the very final round), and La Crosse is out completely.

I guess we'll see.

I still wonder how much the head to head played into it all.  BenU beat SNC, SNC beat Oshkosh, WashU didn't really beat anybody.  I agree that the other criteria have too many differences for this to matter, but it sure seems like that's how it went down... if indeed we were correct with the ranking.

Eau Claire gets a Pool C bid!

They'll face Whitman at St. John's on Friday.  (Ripon vs St. John's are the other two teams in the quadrant.)

Central winds up:

Platteville
Elmhurst
North Central
WashU
Benedictine
St Norbert
Oshkosh
Eau Claire

Gregory Sager

That can't be right. How could Elmhurst be ranked ahead of North Central, and yet NCC hosts a pod while EC has to travel to Wooster?
