St. John's  over Eau Claire 78-69. Johnnies came out of the break on a 7-0 run and kept the lead from there on out. Blugolds just could seem to get the key stop or bucket they needed. Well played game by both teams. Gonna switch over to watch the final period of the WIAC men's hockey tournament to hopefully watch a Blugold victory over Point.

The UWO @ NCC game is phenomenal. No other word to describe it.

Platteville loses 73-70 to St Thomas. Back and forth game, St Thomas got  on a roll after Shields picked up his 2nd foul 5 minutes into the game and sat the rest of the half. Platteville narrowed the lead to 3 at the half. St Thomas led most of the 2nd half and Platteville made several runs and tied it a few times but could never take control of the game. Platteville shot 13 of 20 from the foul line and some of the misses were front end of bonuses.  Bad news for Platteville is this was Carter Voelker's last game, t h e good news is Voelker is the only player with significant playing time to graduate. Good season for Platteville, Oshkosh and Eau Claire it's a shame they all lost tonight.

Greek Tragedy

Hard to wake up this morning knowing the WIAC is done for the year. The way Oshkosh was playing late in the year, I really thought they were primed to make it back to Fort Wayne. Tough assignment on the road at the top CCIW team, but they built a 15-point lead early on and couldn't pull it out. Those non-conference losses really hurt Oshkosh and their chance to host. Would it have made a difference? Possibly. Platteville had a great season as well, but ran into a great St. Thomas team. I bet it really stings falling at home. Eau Claire surprised a lot of folks with their season. A big win vs Whitman and then ran into one of the best teams in the nation in the 2nd round, St. John's. The WIAC is the WIAC, so we can't  make excuses of the competition. It just shows how tough the central region of the U.S. is. Of course, I'm  sure John's Hopkins, Emory and Springfield are all feeling pretty bad today as well...and they all hosted.

Good to see Jeff Gard get WIAC Coach of the Year award. I hope his older brother does the same in the Big Ten.

Agreed, that would be kind of cool.

Greg Gard Big Ten Coach of the Year does this make Cobb, Wisconsin the "Cradle of Coaches" in college basketball.

Nice work, tom. Hope Point can get a few more (6?) to get a strong freshman class in. Complete rebuild?

Complete rebuild is what I'm hoping for.  6 freshman and a couple transfers would be ideal.  Garrett Nelson, Zach Mootz, Peter Timmermann and Mayson Hazaert are about the only returners I want to see getting consistent minutes. Getting Zastrow gave me a lot of hope that UWSP can bring in a top class this year, the next few weeks should have a flurry of commits all around the WIAC as seasons end for the players.

I'm assuming that the NCAA announcement that the NACC Tournament will be fan less includes D3. If that's the case last weekends D3 Tournament games will be the last games  fans could attend this season. Are my tickets a collector item?

The announcements are likely coming at some point, but NCC and Elmhurst are still selling tickets for this upcoming weekend.

Eau Claire is hosting D3 womens hockey this weekend and I inquired on the event and so far they are intending to allow spectators for the game Saturday. NCAA wrestling finals that are being held at US Bank next weekend sounds like it will be spectatorless.

EDIT: I just looked on the Blugold site and both this weeks and next weeks quarterfinal hockey games will be played for the most part spectatorless.  Guess I'll be streaming.

Yeah ... NCAA has now made this a mandate for all events. Not something they normally do.
