GOTTA LOVE ACT 10

ShineTime

My prediction is he goes there and Point has a very successful season and in the process Point will get some top of line transfers for the following year propelling Point to a deep NCAA run possibly to final 4.

This has always been your M.O.  You are over the top optimistic and throw out how this team will be undefeated, nobody can beat them...too much D1 talent...blah blah blah....then something doesn't go their way that you predict in recruiting, and then it's doom and gloom and it's time to shut down the program.  This is exactly why I don't care what you say on Plamann unless you have something to back it up.  He hasn't decided and I can certainly see him going to Oshkosh.

On top of Plamann, for Point to compete at a high level, they still need a big or 2.  Timmermann is more of a 3 and Sachtjen isn't close to ready.  If this is their depth in the frontcourt,  UWSP might as well play 5 guards and go to the system.

It's the name-a-bunch-of-guys-who-may-or-may-not-have-any-chance phase of the UWGB coaching search, but I've seen a few mentions of guys with WIAC ties in early yack, including Dernbach and former Pointer and current UV assistant Brad Soderberg. They are linked to the job that Linc had (rimshot-cymbal).
Things are quite at UW GB they announced the parting of they way with Coach Darner but have yet to give any reason he led GB to a top 4 finish each year he was there including one NCAA tourny so it can't be wins and loses. Just one announcement  that they will conduct a "National Search" is the only thing I can find out of UW GB on a successor.  Two names mentioned in the GB media are two former GB players Jeff Nordgraad and current St Noberts coach Gary Grzesk. Nordgraad has said he thinks Grzesk would be a good choice. I don't see GB looking at WIAC coaches unless they have a tie to GB.

Well, sure it can be wins and losses. He's 92-80. You either set the bar higher than that or settle for top 4 finishes in the Horizon League, which is just kind of.... meh. I should've mentioned former Platteville Pioneer Saul Phillips, who had a nice run at North Dakota State, jumped to Ohio, started well, then a couple 14-17 seasons spelled his fate. Now at D2 Northern State.

I like Grzesk, but jeez, the jump from St Norbert to UWGB, while not far in miles, is pretty far in basketball. A guy like Lewis would have a hotter recent resume but doesn't have the local pedigree like Grzesk does. Would be cool to see the Bennett tree produce another apple.

I can tell you this much ... some of those names aren 't really in the mix. I am blown away when I start researching things how many names are completely made up out of the blue. I have researched this a bit ... I think people need to slow down their predictions. :)

We have seen pretty lofty jumps before. Nate Davis is doing pretty well at Bucknell having left RMC. I don't think UWGB is higher than Bucknell - equal at best. SNC and RMC were both teams under Grzesk and Davis to always be in the conversation.

I think people put far too much stock into a "jump" and such. Coaches succeed or fail for a host of reasons including ones you never thought would fail (the list is long).

I suspect that Grzesk is interested UWGB would be interested ... simply because this is the third time through that his name has been in the mix. I think the ball is more in his court than anywhere else. Does he want to go to a program/department that seems chaotic or in disarray - at least from afar?

I went to a Horizon League school so I am mildly interested in this story.

I am not sure if the late firing is evidence of a department in disarray, or as others have speculated, that there was more to the story than on-court performance, as how else would UWGB pay for the $1.1 million buyout?

"Slow down their predictions"??? What fun is that? Agree that there are many examples of successful jumps, but many others that couldn't make the jump. Darner, for example, arguably had far less of a jump to make from the highest rung of D2, and couldn't do it.

I, too, suspect Grzesk would be interested. Heck, on a four-year deal he'd probably make more than if he coached the rest of his career at SNC. To me, the GB situation doesn't seem chaotic. Just some new folks in charge who recognized a pattern of continued mediocrity, and decided to change it. Which, in fact, might not work in Grzesk's favor. Those folks might not know who he is, much less be able to pronounce his name.

I agree WW, let the speculation run.  It's fun to see what people think.  How about GB get really adventurous and lure Jack Bennett out of retirement.  He could bring Nick along and in a few years Nick could be the new head coach.  Does that sound familiar to any of you?  Jack would turn that program around in a hurry with quality play and players that the community could really latch on to.  As far as coaches making "the jump", I believe, to paraphrase Dick Bennett, good coaching knows no division.  He used to say that all the time about basketball be it division one, two or three.  Good basketball knows no division.

Former La Crosse Logan forward Chase Johnson (6-8) has transferred from Minnesota-Crookston to La Crosse. Johnson, who averaged 4.4 ppg and 5.2 rpg last winter at Crookston, has one remaining season to play with La Crosse.

Interesting get from the home town of MIAA member Olivet.

Side Note: I only noticed this post because I came here to see what was up with the WIAC, mostly because my team just did some technical support for a printing lab at UW Stout (I saw that today and thought, hmm, haven't checked the WIAC board in a while, maybe I'll check that out).  Small world.  Hope you all are safe out there.  Looking forward to what appears to be 4 Hope vs WIAC matchups in Nov/Dec.
