Lakeland at Stout is now scheduled for Monday December 6th.

RF loses to Gustavus Adolphus 82 to 63. Falcons get out rebounded 53 to 26  and shoot 1 for 19 from 3 point range,  not all of the explanation but a lot of it.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Greek Tragedy

Good luck to Point tonight. Normally, I would say we should have a pretty good chance to beat Edgewood. Despite being picked a distant 7th in the 13 team NACC, Edgewood did lead Dubuque at HT before losing to the ARC favorite. Scoring 50 and 55 points to start the season isn't going to cut it unless you have Maus, Bennett, Kalsow etc playing defense.

Pointer hoops show was very informative tonight about the program. Lots of good information on how COVID effected the Pointers since March 2020. Also, it was a close vote by all 14 WIAC basketball head coaches to play the two conferences games in December. We'll see how it works out and if it stays.

As an aside, I think we have a stable, good group of 14 coaches right now. The group prevailed through  the short COVID year and I think are comfortable and confident where they are.

Also, Eau Claire-Wartburg will now be played Thursday December 9.

Could you possibly provide some highlights from the radio show??  I missed it, must have been put together a little late.  They normally are on the 1st Monday of each month during the season.  Thanks in advance.

It was definitely eye opening listening to the show.

This year was about the worst year that you could pick to have covid issues and be shut down for awhile in the preseason.  There is so little experience coming back and players that haven't gelled playing with each other yet.  The very slow start makes a lot of sense there.

Semling talked quite a bit about how the covid issues last year affected the roster makeup.  You could tell that Coach Semling was really disappointed to not have some of these kids on the team anymore.  Losing 3 top 50 kids in the state(Jacob Newhouse, Trey Zastrow and Logan Mulhern) is huge.  Semling was counting on them in the future.  Then, you lose possibly the best player in the conference in Philip Flory.  That was a backbreaker that they didn't expect.  Flory told them he wasn't going to be a one and done.  The best freshman that played last season opts to transfer as well.  Teams can't have this amount of roster attrition and expect to compete in a conference like the WIAC.

There was also quite a bit of talk about continuing to grow and get better as a team.  Which isn't typically what you hear from a Point team, they are normally in the middle of conference races.  Their goal seems to be to keep getting better and by the end of the season to knock off a few higher ranked teams.  They need Mootz and McCray back to have any chance of that happening.  They just don't have any depth.  Hazaert will help too but i'm not sure on the timeframe for any of these guys.

Canon O'Heron is now a full time assistant coach.  He has helped in the past but I'm not sure his exact title.  He's having a blast and really enjoying the game planning pre-game and trying to figure out ways to win games.  He mentioned that the high school season is starting very shortly and that he should be on the road recruiting 3 times a week.  He passes the time by talking to Drew Fredrickson and Nate Dodge over the phone on the road.

Coach Hockett seemed to do a lot of the recruiting leg work so it will be interesting how next years' class comes together.  It will be a very important class to either help this program compete at a high level, or stay status quo and continue looking up at Oshkosh, Platteville and La Crosse.  With Whitewater too, these schools have been recruiting lights out.

Some interesting results in the WIAC tonight. A six game slate saw the WIAC go 4-2 with Stout and Point not playing. Oshkosh visited Edgewood, fell behind a few early and rolled the Eagles without Hartjes 72-49. Plamann had 19 and Borchert 18. Platteville finished the first half on 19-10 and 5-0 runs to down IIT 72-51. Six players with at least eight points for the Pioneers. River Falls was led by Hanson with 34 points. Payne drove to lane, made a layup, got fouled, missed the go ahead and one free throw to send the game to overtime with Northwestern. Two threes by Hanson in overtime led the Falcons to the win, 92-88. La Crosse and Ripon always seem to play tight games and tonight was no different in Ripon. Cook hit free throws late in regulation to tie, but missed a game winner. The Eagles never trailed in overtime, as Ripon missed a 3 at the buzzer and the Eagles prevailed 75-74. E Anderson 16 and Cook 15.  There were some big swings in La Crosse tonight. The VHawks led by as many four in the first half, but the Warhawks then rallied to led by 9 in the first half and 7 at halftime. Whitewater had a 15 point lead with 13:36 to go, but were outscored 46-22 the rest of the game and NAIA Viterbo defeated Whitewater 86-77. Malensek had 19. St Norbert hung around long enough at the Zorn and the Blugolds let the Green Knights back in.  St Norbert led 2-0 and then retook the lead again with just 2:57 to go. It was St Norbert in the end 60-55. Sophomore Ijadimbola had 15 for Eau Claire.

Had had multiple screens going and surprisingly the games finished kind of spread out to see most of the games go final.

Augsburg-River Falls is now scheduled for Wednesday December 15.

'95 Blugold

Just looking at the box score it appears the Blugolds are going to live and die from shooting beyond the arc this season. Only shot 5-25 last night from 3 that helped contribute to an overall 34.5% shooting percentage. So far to start off the season the Blugolds have put up 23 or more 3s in 4 of 6 games.

Any idea where Newhouse, Zastrow and Mulhern went?

Newhouse and Mulhern left school all together and haven't gone back anywhere.  Zastrow I believe is still enrolled at UWSP but quit last January before the shortened season.
