My sources tell me games that are unable to be played are now considered "no contest."  Teams can reschedule them however if they play a rescheduled game it is counted as an out of conference game and doesn't count in the league standings.  Regrettably I don't know if the isolation period has changed.

WARHAWKS: 77
Eau Claire: 72

The WARHAWKS held the lead for most of the first half though it never exceeded eight points and when Eau Claire finished the half with a 9-0 run they took a four point (40-36) lead into the locker room.  EC maintained the lead which reached its high point 59-51 at about nine and half minutes into the second half.  However a jumper by Derek Gray tied the game, 59-59, a couple of minutes later.  The two teams traded baskets and the lead over the next couple of minutes until Drew Fisher's three pointer gave the WARHAWKS a 64-62 lead.  EC tied the game again on their next possession but Trevon Chislom answered with back to back layups and the WARHAWKS took a lead, 70-66, that though threatened was maintained to the finish.  Gray finished with 19 points and Chislom added 16.  For the second game in a row Fisher comes off the bench to make a significant contribution finishing with 10 points, a team leading 5 rebounds along with a pair of assists and a single steal and block.  The WARHAWKS finished with just 3 turnovers to 17 for EC.  This was the difference as it led to a 21-5 advantage in points scored off of them and a 12-0 advantage in fast break points.

Pointer Hoops Radio Show was last night, not a whole lot of interesting information being shared though.

Canon O'Heron, Jake Buchanan and Ryan Peterson were the guests on the show along with Coach Semling.  Canon talked about it being an important recruiting year, which the last 3 have been crucial.  That's what has put the Pointers in this position of not competing.  Canon also said that he thinks this team is only a couple pieces away from being in the discussion of teams competing for a National Title.  I can't say I agree with that unless those couple pieces are players like Philip Flory or Jake Buchanan level transfers.  The way he talked, I would expect a larger recruiting class considering the issues they have had with roster size and available players.  They haven't been able to practice 5 on 5 lately.  They have 11 players with eligibility remaining for next year, I would expect a class anywhere from 6-10 players.

With Buchanan and Peterson, they both plan to use the extra year of eligibility and consider themselves freshman athletically.  A lot can happen to change that decision in the next 3 years, but encouraging nonetheless.

Last interesting tidbit was that Blake Ehrke was added to the coaching staff and was practicing with the team, he was their 10th guy for practice purposes lately.  He tested positive for Covid, along with Coach Jagielo, and has been out.

UWW and UWP is a "no contest" for Wednesday night.

It is going to be interesting to see how the next week plays out. Which teams are playing significantly short handed.

I still do not understand the reasoning why the WIAC has chosen that rescheduled games would be non conference.

It prevents some disparities that are possible, especially if schools get to a point where they have to choose which games to reschedule.

Evidently the university put a new vaccination policy into effect this week and that's created a situation where we have "no coaches or staff" for the game.   We've been short at least three players for over qa week and no mention was made of any additions in the email.

If you thought last year was strange just give this one a little more time.

UWSP at UWO men's game also canceled tonight  :'(.

UWO at Stout canceled for Saturday

Does the WIAC have a minimum number of athletes available to play for it to be canceled? Or is it at the discretion of each team?

Stout had a lot of their players unavailable last night in the 2OT won vs UWEC

Hinsdale Central 6'4" Senior W, Jake Quast, committed to play basketball for the Whitewater Warhawks.

The number I've heard most often is 8 players and one coach is required for a game to go forth, although I'm not sure if this is policy conference wide.

I heard on the broadcast Stout had 9 available last night, similar to Whitewater last week. Great win for Stout last night, the stars showed out and balled out.

It appears a significate outbreak among both Oshkosh teams. Hopefully they can back on the court next week against Platteville which would be a huge first game back.

I'm also hopeful for a full slate of games on January 29th as nonconference games. Would like to see some games on Monday's too if needed. Hopefully teams can find reasonable reschedule dates and find officials to work the games.
