Watched the 2nd half of Oshkosh beating Platteville last night. Oshkosh had the lead at half and expand it to double figures. Platteville got as close as 4 and Oshkosh would go on a run. Oshkosh had 10 3pt baskets to Platteville's 6. Oshkosh also made 21 FTs to Platteville's 9. Those are two areas that Platteville has outscored opponents this year. Congrats to Oshkosh.

The game was reasonably competitive until the Eagles closed out the last seven minutes of the half with a 14-5 run turning a single digit lead to 45-27 at the break.  The Eagle lead expanded into the twenties reaching a high of 24, 62-38, after about six minutes.  The WARHAWKS never got closer than 14 after that.  The Eagles hit on 10 of 20 three point shots including a couple just beating the shot clock.  The WARHAWKS only hit on 5.  The two teams combined for just 9 free throws in the game.  Derek Gray finished with 19.  Carter Capstran added 10. 

Disappointing loss following another in RF.  It wasn't that I thought we'd beat LaCrosse.  I just thought we could be competitive with them.  But we weren't at all.  Hopefully we can get out of this funk with Eau Claire Saturday.

On a chilly afternoon in Menominee, Wisconsin. Stout 38 and Platteville 25. Upset alert at half. Stout just executing better on the offensive end right now.

Stout sure choked that one away, had a 9 pt lead with just over 2 minutes remaining.

Yeah, Stout stumbled big time down the stretch. They let Platteville back in and the Pioneers won a game they really had no business winning.

Oshkosh won at home over River Falls, 89-84. A really good battle between Payne and Borchert again. Borchert had 32 and 15. Payne had 27 and 9.

Borchert the conference POY so far in my mind.

Point has an 11 pt lead with around 8 minutes left tonight....they get careless with the ball and go to overtime.  In overtime, they can't rebound to save their lives....might have something to do with playing a 5 guard lineup due to terrible recruiting for 4 straight years.  0-14 in conference is staring them down the face, knew it was going to be bad this year...not this bad though.

Platteville wins a hard fought game at home against LaCrosse 76-72. LaCrosse led by as many as 13 in the first half and Platteville closed it to 6 at halftime. The second half was full of free throws. Platteville was in the bonus at the 14 minute mark and LaCrosse at the 11 minute mark. For the game Platteville made 24 free throws to 19 for LaCrosse. Platteville came out strong in the 2nd half and led by as many as 8 but LaCrosse would not go away and things looked bleak for Platteville as LaCrosse got it down to 2 points and Kyle Tuma picked up his 5th foul with 2 minutes left. But Platteville made its free throws and Justin Stovall got key rebounds to shut down LaCrosse. Shields led the way for Platteville with 32 points. It was good to see the students and the pep band back at the games after the semester break.

Did I miss something or what happened to Hunter Plamann? It's no wonder Oshkosh lost to Eau Claire seeing you don't have your all WIAC guard and senior leader! I agree with Point and 0-14 staring them in the face but let's give them some credit for putting up a fight and taking a talented Warhawks team to OT. They have shown they at least have fight and the WIAC is so damn good. As bad as this Pointer team may look record wise I still believe they would finish top 3 in many d3 conferences

Hanke hits a tough fade away with 3 seconds in overtime to give Oshkosh another loss. Oshkosh started cold from deep and finished cold in overtime. It just feels like one or two of UWL, UWP, UWO, IWU, WASHU won't be able to host the first weekend of the NCAAs and would probably have to go on the road in a neutral first round game at one of the others. And a losses like this don't help UWO, but high SOS will continue to carry weight.

Oshkosh has has two of these upset losses in overtime while Platteville and La Crosse have zero.

Exciting finish in the game last night.  Oshkosh shot just 4-21 from beyond the arc, but hit a clutch one just under a minute to tie it up. A couple back and forth buckets and the Blugolds missed a close last second shot that could have won it in regulation. Titans got to the line for 30 attempts to only 15 for the Blugolds. Blugolds were hot from the floor in the first half shooting 57% from the field.  Eau Claire has had games with turnover issues, but only had 10 on the night.

Stevens Point: 79    OT

With two ties and twelve lead changes no one led by more than five points for the first eighteen minutes before Point went up by 5 and gradually built a lead that finished at nine, 39-30, at the break.  The Pointer lead grew into double figures quickly and remained there for the first twelve minutes of the second half before the WARHAWKS began to chip away at it.  The WARHAWKS tied it with just over two minutes and after Point missed a jumper Gage Malensek's layup gave them the lead, 65-63, with less than a minute and half remaining.  In the remaining time the two teams traded the lead three times and tied twice including the end of regulation 70-70.   In the overtime the WARHAWKS scored first and never trailed though Point tied the score four times.   Derek Gray returned from injury with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.  Malenchek added 19 points.  Carter Capstan (13) and Jack Brahm (10) also scored in double figures.  The WARHAWKS dominated the boards 50-28 and outscored the Pointers 48-28 in the paint.


Thoughts:
1. We needed this one badly.  We've been dealing with covid and injuries and just haven't played well. 
2. Glad to have Gray back.  He's obviously a big part of things here.
3. Capstan, a true freshman, continues to play well.  Fisher and Lambert are other true freshman playing some good minutes.

Would be interesting to see how a sweep of Platteville and/or La Crosse would be viewed in the Regional Rankings compared to a pair of losses to Whitewater and Eau Claire however...  UWO has already gone to both La Crosse and Platteville and won.  If they hold serve against both at home, I'd venture to say that the 4-0 record against those two schools might hold more weight than a pair of losses to the 4th and 6th place squads?

6'3" Appleton North G, Brock Donaldson, will play collegiate basketball at Platteville.  Donaldson just hit the winning shot, with seconds remaining last night, to get a win over highly ranked Appleton East.
