I can't wait for the upcoming Pointer Hoops Radio Show this month....so we can hear Semling talk about how they can't beat a soul in conference but they are only a piece or two away from competing for championships.

From Oshkosh last night in the top five matchup, the Titans defeated the Pioneers, 65-51. Pearson is out with a hand injury for Platteville right now and hopes to return soon. McCann remains out. Plamann returned for Oshkosh after missing the last two games.

Platteville got out to a 10-2 lead, then it was pretty much Oshkosh with the advantage the rest of the way. Oshkosh had pretty good night shooting while Platteville did not. Muench, Booth, and Petrie all with momentum propelling threes in the first half to help the Titans. Heck, even Borchert hit a three from the top of the key. Huml has stepped into the starting five and provided some good offense for Platteville, including 16 last night and was really the one knocking down jumpers keeping Platteville within striking distance.

The game was not without injury scares. Both Probst and Stovall limped off the court for Platteville, but were able to return a few minutes later. Steckbauer left the game for Oshkosh with 7 or 8 minutes left and did not return. He was at least walking in the handshake line after. Could see Booth get another start on Saturday.

On the Oshkosh schedule and on the roster card last night indicated a WIAC Tournament First Round on Friday February 18th. The talk last night was to expect all teams to make the Tournament field and 7@6 and 8@5 seed games on that Friday night. The WIAC is going let all teams in the Tournament field, similar to most other conferences doing that again this season.

The WIAC standings are ordering teams with the most wins the standings. Oshkosh could win out, be 2-0 against Platteville, and have to go on the road in the tournament championship game because Platteville had more conference wins it appears. Strange covid times we are still in in this season. Unexpected losses to Eau Claire and Whitewater hurting the Titans more than the two missed games at this point, however.

WARHAWKS: 68
LaCrosse: 80

LaCrosse shoots 59% from the floor in the first half including 7-11 from beyond the arc and builds a double digit lead after about seven minutes which they maintained and expanded to a high of eighteen before the half ended 45-29.  The WARHAWKS rallied to within single digits twice in the second half.  Once at eight points, 49-41, around the fifteen minute mark on a three point play by Trevon Chislom and again, 69-63, when Derek Gray made a pair of free throws with four minutes remaining.  However the Eagles answered each run and the WARHAWKS went 2-9 from the floor down the stretch.  Gray led all scorers with 24 points. Elijah Lambert and Carter Capstran added 10 points apiece.  Lambert pulled down 8 rebounds.

Those two pieces happen to be the 2004-2005 Jason Kalsow and Nick Bennett. Duh.

Oshkosh North PG, Reed Seckar, has committed to play for the Oshkosh Titans.  Good get for the Titans, Seckar had a lot of interest around the WIAC.

Haha, good one.  That's about what it would take too.

Good night of basketball in the league on Saturday. River Falls tops Whitewater, who honors three seniors, in overtime. La Crosse comes back from an early deficit to beat Eau Claire at home. Oshkosh handled fast paced Stout really well to cruise to victory. And Platteville takes care of Point.

Three regular season match days to go.

Conference Tournament Seeding

It sounds like the WIAC tournament will expand to take all eight teams with a tiered format, where Friday night #8 plays at #5 and #7 plays at #6, with the winners feeding into the normal brackets the following week on Tuesday night, with the winner of 5/8 playing at #4 and the winner of 6/7 playing at #3.

With an imbalanced schedule due to games not played for COVID protocols, the question is how the teams will be seeded.  Right now, the standings are listed by number of wins, not by winning percentage.  With some teams having played all 11 conference games, while other have played either 10 or 9, it will be interesting to see what direction the conference decides to go with this.

According to my sources, the coaches will seed the teams for the WIAC Tournament.

Not sure if you'll see any changes from the final standings, but you could.

6'2" Loyola Academy(IL) G, Shane Tarjan, has committed to the Pointers.  I can't say I'm excited about this one, his highlights leave me underwhelmed.

Conference tournament format change is officially announced. As expect 1st and 2nd seeds will receive a double bye. No mention of how seeds will be determined officially, but tiebreakers have been taken away from the Tournament page, so expect the coaches to seed the team as I reported.

The conference notes a "significant" imbalance in games played. In reality we only lost four men's games and four women's games due to covid. IMO the conference could've and should've made them up. Other nearby conferences are making games up (CCIW, MWC, NACC), not sure why the WIAC chose not to.
