Platteville wins over EC in OT 60-56. Platteville up 27-24 at half 2nd half was back and forth with EC clinging to a small lead late in the half. EC missed a FT with about 10 seconds left and Tuma hit a 3 to tie the game at 52 with 3.7 seconds left. EC got the ball inbounds but traveled with 1.1 seconds. Probst's shot at the buzzer was blocked. In the OT Platteville got most of its scoring from the line to seal the win. Tuma led Platteville with 15 points.  Looks like Oshkosh will get the 1 seed and Platteville will get the 2 seed. It was good to see Blake McCann playing significant minutes tonight hopefully Logan Pearson will be back for the tournament.

Seeds are out.
1 Oshkosh
2 Platteville
3 La Crosse
4 Whitewater
5 Stout
6 River Falls
7 Eau Claire
8 Stevens Point

Stevens Point at Stout and Eau Claire at River Falls Friday night. La Crosse and Whitewater receive single byes and will host games Tuesday night. Oshkosh and Platteville receive double byes and will host games Thursday night.

Seems everything is correct with this. I was just surprised the conference notes athletic directors determined the seeds and not the coaches.

Greek Tragedy

It's definitely a sad day to be a Pointer fan. I never thought I would see the day that the Dawgs would go 0-fer in conference play. Definitely not being arrogant at all. I suppose in the past 40+ years of growing up in Point and cheering for them after moving out of the area, I guess I was used to (mostly) success. I'm not sure if this means the end of the line for Semling or not, but nowhere else to go but up. I hope whomever is coaching next year can get the recruiting in order and re-establish the tradition of Pointer basketball. Last night, like most WIAC nights this year, it was tough to "see" (i.e. PbP, boxscores etc) exciting conference games, upsets, top-of-the-table clashes, close games and NONE involving Stevens Point. I'm obviously a Pointer fan first, but D3 overall is exciting throughout the nation. If your WIAC team is out of the NCAA tournament or gets knocked out, I encourage you to continue to follow D3. There are a ton of very good teams out there and exciting young players to watch or keep an eye on. The Final Four is being played 6 hours away in Fort Wayne, IN. You can see three great games.

Whitewater did senior day last Saturday, hard to make things out for them and I believe they honored some juniors. I think Point's decisions are largely known thanks to tomt. Mootz and Wagner to return I'm pretty certain. I'm interested in following La Crosse and Platteville on Wednesday night, a few decisions for each.

.

All of the players honored in WHITEWATER were academic seniors who do not plan on returning for an extra year.  The year in school listed on the men's roster is their athletic eligibility.

Yeah, this was an interesting one for me. Whitewater listed their roster as everyone repeated their 20-21 year listed in 21-22. Most everyone else across the country is advancing everyone a class and repeating/getting a second senior year.

If anyone planned on listening to the radio show from last night...don't bother.  I learned literally nothing from it.

Other than the WIAC was struggling to find officials (mainly women's) for Saturday, which is why the first round is Friday night. I listened live and regretted it.

Same old, same old this season from Bob last night.

So we're still only a couple players short of contending for a conference title?

Recruiting has definitely been lackluster for UWSP recently, basically ever since Dernbach left...but that hasn't been the only issue.  UWSP used to lead the league in retention, very rarely did players not use up their 4 years of eligibility.

Now, you can make up a team, just in the last 3 years, of guys who left school altogether, quit or transferred who would beat the current Pointers.  I'm saying that as if these guys were practicing throughout and in shape.  Philip Flory, Anthony Espensen, Angelo Rizzo, Jacob Newhouse, Trey Zastrow, Logan Mulhern, Mayson Hazaert and Jeven Sachtjen...This list includes most of their top recruits from the past couple years, and it's just sad.

On top of this list, there are a bunch of guys who were recruited to UWSP who had zero interest from anybody else in the WIAC and who, quite frankly, have no business playing in the league.  Isaac Woelfer, Levi Ewan, Ryan Genrich, Joey Saunders, Vaughn Breit, Elijah Vander Velden and Jaxon Flaherty.  Genrich may be a little bit of a stretch but he is awful on the offensive end.

I hope there weren't any recruits at the debacle last night, just a pitiful effort all the way around.  It was senior night, and it was the last chance at salvaging an 0-fer conference record...and they came out like they would rather be anywhere else.  Watching the first 10 minutes of that game made me think that I couldn't care less if any one of those kids on the roster is back next year.  In all reality, you don't have a ton to work with for the future as it is.  Brennan Timm and Jake Buchanan can be built around in the coming years.  Zach Mootz, Cliff McCray and Darrius Bolden can be solid role players.  After that, it is guys who wouldn't sniff rosters around the rest of the league.

On top of hitting on a few top of the board guys this recruiting year, UWSP needs to get some tranfers to fill in depth or be go to guys next season.  If this doesn't happen, it will just be another terrible season of basketball next year for UWSP.  I would already put one of their incoming recruits onto the list of guys who shouldn't be on a roster of a WIAC team.

Greek Tragedy - you Pointer fans are spoiled. Just kidding.

I feel your pain; as one who attended UWEC during the Ken Anderson era, it's been hard to follow a Blugold team that's only been .500 or better in half of the last 26 seasons since Anderson left... The team's best finish in conference has been tied for second, twice. Ouch...

I did, however. live in Point for the glory years then (actually have been to more games in Quandt and Berg and than Zorn) and still follow the conference, albeit not posting on these boards as much as I used to. We are lucky to be fans of teams in one of the best D3 conferences, in all sports, men and women, in the country...

I appreciate your insights - and those of the regulars of late here, such as tom4525, fredfalcon, badgerwarhawk, palum, PauldingLightUP, cubs, and Blugold95...

Regardless of what happens in the post season I've been pleased with the overall progress the WARHAWKS have made this season.  Before the season started when I was asked how I thought we would do I told my friends that if we could finish .500 on the season that was forward progress and if it happened that we finished .500 or better in league play it was a bonus.  We've exceeded both of those seemingly modest goals for most but significant growth for our group.  We're still young.  If we can just find an addition with size I really think we can challenge next year.

But I actually thought Larry Bird was a bad draft pick so take it with a grain of salt.     ;D ;)

Ashwaubenon 6'1" G, Matt Imig, has committed to play for the Oshkosh Titans.  My opinion is that Imig will be a very good college player, Oshkosh continuing to separate from most of the WIAC.

UWRF will have a tough time beating EC tonight. Both Falcon wins were narrow, less than 10 pts. at RF and only by 2 in the game at EC.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

'95 Blugold

Typical game so far for the Blugolds tonight in River Falls with the Falcons up 42-27 at half. Took early 10-4 lead and then River Falls went on a 23-0 run over the next 7 1/2 minutes.

Poor shooting from the floor and line and turnovers. Blugold season should be over after tonight.
