Well, tonight's Pointer Hoops Radio Show had about the least amount of relevant information of any show I've listened to.

Nothing about how long injured players will be out....nothing on the mystery status of Quintin Winterfeldt.

Hey Tom, you might want to reset your expectations on a few of these things.

The purpose of the Pointer Radio Show is to give the community exposure to the players and the program, which it accomplishes. It isn't to share juicy details about the status of players or injuries, etc. To that point, the specifics on the health of the player are that player's to share, or not share. And no, I don't have info on either (but also wouldn't share it if I did).

We're talking about student athletes here. College kids. They have every right to privacy as anyone else.

And there could be plenty of reasons why you haven't seen a player on the court.

Off the top of my head, it could be:

Injury/illness
Academics/eligibility (potentially even something that didn't transfer from a student school or hasn't been worked out yet)
Discipline/suspension
Not playing well enough in practice to get a shot in the game
Personal reasons/situation

You've made it pretty clear in your previous comments that you don't have much faith in the Pointer coaching staff. But you're also talking about a college program like they're a professional team.  They're not.

This Pointer team has a lot of new faces this year. It's going to take a while for them to gel. You wrote them off after one game - and in a situation where a single player put the team on his shoulders and carried his team to victory. That will happen. Look at what happened to Oshkosh at Calvin. Or Platteville in the NCAA tournament (ironically also against Calvin).

Our Pointers are 2-1, coming off a victory over a ranked opponent. They looked tough down the stretch in the second half and made plays.

And yes, while it's true that they didn't make those plays against St. Olaf, that was the first game of the year. They've already shown marked improvement in a short period of time, which I think is all a fan could want or ask for.

Or... Maybe all a fan SHOULD want or ask for.

Greek Tragedy

If anyone is interested in following my adventures in the Wisconsin D3 Basketball Challenge, I moved the thread to the multi regional section since it is multi regional after all. It mostly involves teams from the WIAC, MWC, NACC and the two Wisconsin based CCIW teams.

I do understand the whole privacy thing with student athletes and laws and regulations. However the "radio" guys on the YouTube broadcast of the St. Olaf game even said Ruder rolled his ankle in practice, so maybe it wasn't out of the question to get an update on an injured player that seemed to already be public knowledge.

I'm sure the majority of ppl who frequent this site saw what I posted already, but I'm going to delete it anyways.  It's not helping anything so it's pointless to post it.  Hopefully Point continues an upward trend that started 2 games ago.

Generally agree.  Some D1 coaches ought to get this tape.

Does anyone have any insight on the over and back call on the errant pass that gave Calvin the ball near the end.....looked like the Titan player (Carter Thomas) clearly intercepted the ball and landed on both sides of half court, but the video was very poor.  Wrong call?  Appeared so.  I think he gets to establish position before he can go over and back. Annoucners weren't helpful in clarifying but that was not Dave McHugh out there.  ;D

Sorry for the late response but ... is that a compliment or a slight?   :D

I don't know what happened but from what you described, a player has to establish themselves BEFORE they get the benefit. If he started in the front court, was in mid-air when he caught the ball, and landed with one foot in the back-court ... it's an over-and-back call. He has to establish himself in the back-court first. Because he was last established in the front court, that is where the call is based.

If he started in the back-court and landed straddling the line, then there is no call as he hasn't established himself in the front court as of yet.

To be established in the front court, both feet and the ball have to be in the front court. Once any of those three (two feet and the ball) go into the back-court, then it is an over-the-back call.

The only thing I question is the sequence. If the defense tipped the ball, then gathering it in the back-court by the offense is allowed. However, I believe it still goes back to the previous comment ... if he started in the front-court, got the ball before establishing himself in the back-court, then by landing with possession with a foot in the back-court negates the tip and he's called for over-and-back. But I'll be honest ... I'm not exactly sure as I am trying to figure it out abstractly.

The WARHAWKS had an 11 point, 41-30, half time lead but were unable to overcome a hot shooting, 65%, Hope team in the second half losing their first game 72-68.  Hope closed the gap in the first 7 minutes of the second half and the game went back and forth with neither team able to build more than a two possession lead until about the three minute mark when Hope, leading by 4, sank a three pointer.  After that the WARHAWKS were able to get within a pair but the attempt to tie was blocked and a desperation three wide of the mark.  Both teams made 22 baskets and both sank 4 three point attempts. However Hope went 24-29 and the WARHAWKS 20-29 from the charity stripe deciding the game.

Carter Capstran returned to the starting lineup playing 33 minutes and finishing with team high 22 points and 8 rebounds.  Trevon Chislom and Elijah Lambert also scored in double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively.

Against Grinnell, I've seen opponents basically camp a guy under the basketball while his team plays 4 vs 5 at the other end. I have a feeling this may have happened a little.

Compliment. Like I said, video angle was pretty bad, hard to tell. The Calvin guys with the D3 pod are going to address it. Apparently it's in doubt with some Oshkosh and Calvin fans.

That Overway kid is a D1 player. How did they hide him?

WARHAWKS drop a close one to hot shooting North Central team 87-86.  NC built up a double digit lead over the first 5 minutes but the WARHAWKS rallied and tied the score 37-37 over the next 7 minutes.  NC went back ahead but never led by more than two possessions until the WARHAWKS managed to take a lead 39-38 and closed the half on an 8-3 run for a 45-41 half time lead.  After NC scored the first 5 points to regain the lead the WARHAWKS managed to go back on top briefly before NC once again regained the lead 50-49 and held it building it to a high of 9 points 63-54.  The WARHAWKS cut into that lead reducing it to a single point 87-86 with :11 remaining when Jameer Barker gave them possession with a steal.  Unfortunately Carter Capstran's heavily contested shot in the lane missed and after a NC travel violation Miles Barnstable three point attempt with :00.4 seconds was shot of the mark.  Capstran finished with 19 points, Barker with 18.  Elijah Lambert and Drew Fisher chipped in with 12 while Fisher led the team with 9 rebounds.  Barker added 5 steals.

NC's Helwig brothers are good.  All American Matt led all scorers with 28 points while brother Ethan added 20.  Clutch shot after clutch shot, one after another all night.  We couldn't stop it. UGH

Next up: Ripon Saturday.

He was probably under-recruited, but he was getting a few D1/D2 looks last Winter, not sure if anyone pulled the trigger and offered.  He's also one of those kids that was a "potential" type of recruit for higher levels, there was never a question if he could play D3.   He looks to have put a ton of work in the off season and showed up ready to play.

Dad played at Calvin, those types of legacy West Michigan kids are difficult to pull away even with scholarships.
