Greek Tragedy

Play any kind of basketball, traditional or system ball, you still need good players. I just don't think Greenville has good players. I saw them play against Lakeland and the Muskies dominated that game. Just simple things like dribbling, shooting, passsing etc, they just aren't very good fundamentally. To their credit, though, the Greenville players still seemed to be enjoying themselves, for the most part, even when they really had no chance to win. I do applaud them for that. When Grinnell was in their hayday, they had really good players like Bobby Long, Dave Arsenault and John Grotberg. Those guys could probably play and start on good traditional teams. It just doesn't seem like Greenville and Grinnell have the players to compete lately.

When Greenville has had good players in the System, they've been good.  Dr. Barber plays this way to get more guys on the roster and more on the team.

In the one season they won both the conference regular season and conference tournament, Greenville finished the season rated No. 149 according to Massey.  They do have massive rosters though.

That might not be too impressive to the power conferences, but Top 150 is massive success for a lot of d3 schools. But, if you talk to George, he likes to win, but priority is positively impacting lives and he'll take as many guys as he can get.

Oshkosh takes care of SNC 68-50. The Titans hold the Green Knights scoreless over the final 4:12 of the game.

Point goes 1-1 in Texas. Not bad.

Not great either. Their win was a strange one. They hit 7 3s before Southwestern even made a basket. They were up big and then Southwestern went on a 15-0 run. It was a game of runs throughout. Point would go on a run and seemingly put the game away only for Southwestern to return the favor to cut it to single digits.  Then Point would put themselves back up 15-17 and Southwestern would again cut it to as low as 5 later in the game. Point won by 10, uncomfortably, in my opinion. Point was never in the Trinity game. Down big, but never made a run of it, like Southwestern did. 8-5 is way better than last year's record. With all the new players, I think they're still trying to figure things out. We have half a season left, but even looking into next season, they could be real good if they keep the team together.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. I think they've got some surprises in them. They obviously need to be more consistent and not have those scoring droughts.

Sure glad Point isn't trying to fly anywhere with the Southwest mess. I hope everyone else trying to fly to games make their destinations. Sucks when games have to be cancelled.

#22272
Saint Scholastica: 60
WARHAWKS: 66

The WARHAWKS held the lead for most of the first half but it was never significant reaching eight a few times before the Saints would cut it down to a possession or two finally tying the game around the six and a half mark at 23-23.  From that point the WARHAWKS went on a 16-6 run to finish the half with a 39-29 lead.  The Saints quickly eliminated the WARHAWKS first half lead taking the lead, 46-44, after eight minutes of the second half.  They held the lead, though it was never more than two possessions, for the next eight minutes until Delvin Barnstable's jumper gave the WARHAWKS the lead 56-55.  After the lead was quickly exchanged between the two the WARHAWKS finished the game with a 8-3 run for the win. Chislom led all scorers with 19 points.  Delvin Barnstable finished with 12 and his brother Miles had 11.  The three had 6 rebounds each.  Free throw and turnovers were the difference.  The WARHAWKS went 14-21 to the Saints 1-3 from the line and benefited from 21 Saint turnovers outscoring them 18-6 off them and 15-5 on fast breaks.

We didn't play that well.  Particularly for the second half though the effort in the last 4 minutes or so was good.  But a W is a W is a W and so forth.

Next: Northland  Friday in River Falls

River Falls was beating Northland in the second half the last time I checked the Falcons were on a run.

Whitewater is less than 2 hours from Oshkosh, yet they are playing at the River Falls tournament 4 hours away. Eau Claire is about an hour away from River Falls, but they are playing in Oshkosh 3 hours away.

Curious if the Mayor of River Falls (or anyone else) would like to suggest a place to eat while we're in town, probably after the 2nd game.
